After two years in the making, the split between the San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was finally finalized this season. Garoppolo joined the Las Vegas Raiders, while the 49ers seem to have second-year signal-caller Brock Purdy penciled in as their starter.

Garoppolo had some time to gather his thoughts since leaving the Bay Area and recently decided to open up about the eventful past two seasons with the 49ers in a chat with The San Francisco Chronicle. He described the 2022 campaign as “a wild year” due to him being on the exit door only to return and start 10 games with the team.

The veteran also reflected on 2021, when the 49ers drafted North Dakota’s quarterback Trey Lance with the third overall pick but kept him as a starter.

“Yeah, the year before [2021] was real awkward,” Garoppolo said. “That was tougher than this past year, honestly. You’re always gonna be dealt a hard hand at some point, and you’ve just got to make the best of it, and that’s what I’ve tried to do. That was a hard time.”

When the 49ers drafted Lance, they believed he would succeed Garoppolo in 2022 and become the franchise’s quarterback of the future. However, Lance ended up suffering a season-ending injury early in the campaign, and now his future in San Francisco looks shaky as Garoppolo’s once was.

Garoppolo, on the other hand, is ready to start his new journey with the Raiders and hopes Las Vegas will appreciate him more than San Francisco did.

The Las Vegas Raiders have their quarterback for the 2023 NFL season. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that the Raiders have agreed to a multi-year deal with former San Francisco 49ers starting signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo.

The deal is reportedly for three-year and $67.5 million. Garoppolo is expected to get $34 million guaranteed.

Garoppolo attracted interest from multiple QB-needy teams in recent days, including the Houston Texans, but it was the Raiders that made the most convincing pitch. Besides a clear opportunity to start, the 31-year-old will also be reunited with Las Vegas’ head coach Josh McDaniels. McDaniels previously served as the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots, the franchise that drafted Garoppolo in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

The Raiders previously decided that it was time to move on from their longtime starter Derek Carr, releasing the veteran in February. They were expected to make a run for Green Bay Packers’ star quarterback Aaron Rodgers but the team apparently never went through with their interest in the four-time NFL MVP. By opting for Garoppolo, the Raiders now have a dependable veteran to take them through the season while still leaving the option to take a quarterback with the No.7 pick in this year’s draft.

Jimmy Garoppolo spent the past five and a half years with the 49ers and compiled 13,599 passing yards and 82 touchdowns. He led the franchise to a Super Bowl appearance in 2019 and had a 38-17 record as a starter in the regular season.

Veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was as good as gone with the San Francisco 49ers last season but ended up staying with the franchise and even ended up starting 10 games before going down with an injury. But according to the 49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan, a similar scenario won’t happen in the future.

Shanahan spoke with reporters earlier this week and was asked at one point whether Garoppolo might return to the team for the 2023 NFL season.

“No, I don’t see any scenario of that,” Shanahan responded.

San Francisco was ready to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo after the 2021 season, installing second-year signal caller Trey Lance as their starter. Garoppolo was kept away from the team and was placed on the trade block. But despite their best efforts, the 49ers found a hard time moving the veteran as he was recovering from shoulder surgery.

Eventually, the two sides agreed on a reworked contract that would keep Garoppolo with the organization for one more season. He would serve as Lance’s backup for a year before hitting free agency.

But just two weeks into the 2022 campaign, Garoppolo was the 49ers’ starter again. Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury, which prompted the San Francisco to turn to the 31-year-old. Garoppolo would go on to lead the team to a 7-3 record, throwing for 2,437 yards, 16 touchdowns, and only four interceptions, before suffering a season-ending injury himself.

While Garoppolo turned out to be great insurance for the 49ers in 2022, the team probably believes that they already have one in rookie Brock Purdy. The “Mr. Irrelevant” took over after Garoppolo went down and had seven straight wins before a loss in the NFC Championship that included Purdy playing most of the game with torn UCL in his elbow.

The San Francisco 49ers have lost their starting quarterback for the second time this season. Their signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a broken foot in a 17-33 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday and will be out for the season.

Garoppolo got hurt during the game’s opening drive after taking a sack and having his foot stuck under the Dolphins’ defensive end Jaelan Phillips. He went for a check on the sidelines and didn’t return to the game,  being replaced by the rookie Brock Purdy.

San Francisco’s head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Garoppolo’s injury after the game, revealing that the veteran will have season-ending surgery. The 49ers previously saw Week 1 starter Trey Lance go down with an ankle injury at the start of the 2022 campaign.

Purdy, who was selected as the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, did well after stepping into the spotlight. The Iowa State product completed 25 out of 37 passes attempted while throwing for 210 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Previously, the 22-year-old player only attempted nine passes in his pro career.

Losing Garoppolo is a disaster for the San Francisco 49ers, especially considering that they were considered one of the Super Bowl favorites so far in the season. The team will most likely roll with Purdy because of his familiarity with their system, but they are expected to take a look at the free-agent market and bring in a veteran option as well.

The season might not be over for the San Francisco 49ers. Despite opening 2021 with a 3-5 record, the 49ers kept their playoffs hopes alive by beating the heavily-favored Los Angeles Rams on Monday night.

The 49ers’ defense came up big to start the game, intercepting Rams star quarterback Matthew Stafford. Facing 2nd&8 on his own half, Stafford threw a bomb to newly-acquired wideout Odell Beckham Jr., but the pass was well off and allowed San Francisco’s safety Jimmie Ward to come up with a pick.

The interception set up an impressive drive by the 49ers offense that included 18 plays, and lasted more than 11 minutes, covered 93 yards, and culminated with QB Jimmy Garoppolo finding tight end George Kittle in the endzone.

Shortly after, Ward picked off Stafford once again, but this time he managed to go all the way to the end and make it 14-0 for San Francisco.

The Rams finally managed to put some points on the board early in the second quarter after Stafford connected with tight end Tyler Higbee on a 10-yard TD pass.

Everyone expected the Rams to pick themselves up after this, but the 49ers had other ideas and immediately responded with Deebo Samuel’s rushing touchdown before the end of the half.

The second half saw more of the same. The LA team struggled to get into the rhythm on both defense and offense while San Francisco continued to add to their lead with Robbie Gould’s 50-yarder and Samuel’s second TD of the game.

The Rams did manage to get on the board once more after Matt Gay made a 37-yarder late in the fourth to make it 10-31.

The win improved San Francisco to a 4-5 record, but they still have a long way to go if they want to make it to the postseason. The Rams, on the other hand, are 7-3 and sit one game behind the Arizona Cardinals (8-2) in NFC West.

The San Francisco 49ers are increasingly optimistic that their starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo might return for the Week 5 clash against the Arizona Cardinals. According to the team’s head coach Kyle Shanahan, Garoppolo’s injury is not as bad as it initially seemed, and there is a chance he plays on Sunday.

Garoppolo got hurt in a 21-28 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4, being forced to exit the game with a bruised calf at halftime. It appeared at first that he might be in for a longer spell on the sidelines, but an MRI test on Monday showed there is no major reason for concern.

“It does mean he has a chance,” Shanahan told reporters when asked about Garoppolo. “It wasn’t as bad as what we thought it might have been. He’s in a lot of pain, still sore. Hopefully, by the time he comes in Wednesday, if it’s getting better, then he’ll have a good chance. If it hasn’t improved at all by Wednesday, it will probably be a little bit longer.”

If Garoppolo can’t play against the Cardinals, the 49ers will be forced to turn to rookie Trey Lance as a starter under center. In the second half of the Seahawks’ game, Lance completed nine out of 18 passes attempted while throwing for 157 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 41 rushing yards on seven attempts.

Shanahan also offered an update about the Pro Bowl offensive tackle Trent Williams, who was dealing with a right shoulder injury.

“There is some fluid in there and stuff so there are some issues with it, but that’s something, hopefully, he can recover here before Sunday,” he explained.

San Francisco 49ers are looking to return to the Super Bowl this year, but that might be trickier than they think. Despite entering the Week 1 game against Arizona Cardinals as overwhelming favorites, the 49ers suffered a 20-24 loss and sparked a blaming game in the process.

Speaking with reporters after the match, the 49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan pointed a finger at his quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and said that the 28-year-old QB’s “gotta play better” further down the road.

“He had some good plays in there, but just like the rest of the offense (he) had some missed opportunities,” Shanahan told reporters. “He’s gotta play better. We’ve all gotta play better. The entire offense missed opportunities.”

Garoppolo had 259 yards and two touchdowns against the Cardinals but struggled to get into a rhythm and generate offense in the decisive moments of the game. This was especially the case on the 49ers’ last drive when he missed two easy passes that would probably seal the game for his team.

Garoppolo didn’t mention any specifics when asked about the things he would like to do over but admitted his misses played a part in the loss.

“I can’t really put my finger on one (play) right now, but there’s a number of them,” said Garoppolo. “Missed throws, missed opportunities we usually make.”

Jimmy Garoppolo’s early struggles seem all too familiar for the 49ers, as his missed throws arguably cost them the Super Bowl trophy last season. In order for San Francisco to have a chance of embarking on another deep playoff run, Garoppolo will have to clean up his game and step up to the task. If not, don’t be surprised if the organization decides to consider other QB options next year.

When Tom Brady announced he was leaving New England Patriots earlier this season, his hometown team San Francisco 49ers were reported as one of his preferred destinations. And while 49ers never officially made a move, clearing the way for Brady to join Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they did briefly consider it.

49ers’ general manager John Lynch recently admitted on The Rich Eisen Show that he and head coach Kyle Shanahan discussed the possibility of making a move for Brady. According to Lynch,

“When you’re talking about one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time with Tom Brady, of course, you’re going to have some internal discussion,” said Lynch. “And then you hear rumors that hey, he’d like to come home, that kind of thing. So of course Kyle and I have discussions. We’re always into getting better, so you always look at everything, especially a situation like that.

Brady’s homecoming never got to be, as Lynch and Shanahan ended up deciding that already have a franchise quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo.

“We love everything that he brings, and we really believe it’s a long-term answer,” he added. “I would tell you we’re more convinced than ever about who our quarterback is in Jimmy Garoppolo.”

San Francisco 49ers made the Super Bowl last season with Garoppolo, but many people thought that he was also the reason they didn’t win it. The 28-year-old signal-caller put on poor performance, especially late in the game, completing just three passes in the fourth quarter and throwing an interception.

Still, 49ers appear to have full confidence in Garoppolo as they just admitted they didn’t want to get the best quarterback that has ever played the game to replace him. We’ll see whether it will pay off.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has a new look on the ACL injury that limited him to just three games in 2018. According to Garoppolo, his injury was “blessing in disguise” as it enabled 49ers to get Pro Bowl pass rusher Nick Bosa.

The 2018 season supposed to be Garropolo’s first as a full-time starter, but he ended up tearing his ACL in Week 3, which ruled him out for the season. In his absence, San Francisco struggled and finished the year with 4-12 record, which got them the No.2 overall pick in 2019 NFL Draft. The team used it to draft Bosa, who had an immediate impact on the team in his rookie season.

Bosa finished this regular season as a Pro Bowler and PFWA Rookie of the Year, tallying 47 tackles, 9.0 sacks, and one interception. Seeing this big contribution of the young defensive end for his team, Garoppolo doesn’t have so many regrets about the time he missed in 2018.

“Things have a way of working out,” said Garoppolo during a press conference on Wednesday. “I always told myself it was a blessing in disguise, the ACL.”

“We got (Nick) Bosa out of it. That’s a pretty good trade-off, I guess. But yeah, things have a way of working out I guess. This ride is crazy,” he added.

With Jimmy Garoppolo healthy, 49ers managed to put together an impressive season in which they won the NFC West with 13-3 record that also got them the No.1 seed in their conference. 49ers will now face Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game after previously beating Minnesota Vikings in the Divisional Round.

San Francisco 49ers’ fairytale season continues. The 49ers faced Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night and came out with a 28-25 win, which kept them as the only unbeaten team besides New England Patriots in this season. They are now 8-0, their best start of the season since 1990.

The game against the Cardinals also saw 49ers’ quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo finally having a dominant performance this season. Garoppolo didn’t receive a lot of credit so far for San Francisco’s dominance, as their wins were attributed mostly to their running game and defense. But on Thursday night, the 27-year-old signal-caller was the main star of the team.

Arizona successfully stopped the 49ers running game, forcing them to turn to the passing game. Garoppolo welcomed the challenge and arguably delivered his best game as a 49er.

He completed 28-of-37 passes, throwing for 317 yards and career-high four touchdowns. He didn’t have a single interception while boosting a career-high passer rating of 136.9.

“He played great today,” – said San Francisco’s head coach Kyle Shanahan. “He made a lot of plays in rhythm and made a lot of off-schedule plays. … I thought Jimmy played a hell of a game. His best game yet, probably.”

Garoppolo’s performance also earned praise from his teammates.

“He’s pretty good,” – said tight end George Kittle after the game. “I don’t know why people don’t think he is. He makes some pretty gutsy throws out there, doesn’t he? Goodness gracious … I can’t say enough about how he brings us along.”

Garoppolo completed 70.8 percent of his passes this season, throwing for 1,806 yards and 13 TDs.
