The Boston Celtics’ star Jayson Tatum finally has an ejection from an NBA game on his resume. Tatum was ejected for the first time in his pro career on Monday night in a 109-94 loss to the New York Knicks.

The 24-year-old All-Star got flagged for his second technical foul late in the fourth quarter after appearing to argue with the referees. The second technical brought to an end a frustrating night for Tatum that saw him shoot 6-18 from the field, including just 1-9 on three-pointers and scoring 14 points.

Speaking with reporters after the game, Tatum said that he wasn’t sure why he had been ejected. However, he didn’t seem to feel too bad about it.

“But all the great players get thrown out a few times in their career,” Tatum added. “So, it’s good for my rep.”

Jayson Tatum is currently playing his best season as a pro. He is averaging career highs in minutes (37.3), points (30.1), rebounds (8.7), and assists (4.7). As a result, the Boston Celtics have been the top team in the NBA for the better part of the season.

However, the loss to the Knicks temporarily knocked the Celtics from the top of the Eastern Conference. They dropped to the No. 2 with a 44-18 record, while the Milwaukee Bucks moved to the first seed at 43-17.

The Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum won the first-ever Larry Bird Eastern Conference Finals MVP Award after helping his team to the Eastern Conference title with a dramatic win over Miami Heat. The contest, which went all the way to seven games, ended with the Celtics grabbing a late 100-96 victory over the Heat.

Tatum played a critical role in the Celtics’ narrow win, averaging 25 points, 5.6 assists, and 8.3 rebounds throughout the conference finals. He also played a crucial role in stabilizing Boston’s defense which exhibited vulnerability during the early stages of the season.

Prior to his game-changing performance against Miami, Tatum enjoyed a slew of memorable moments throughout the playoffs, which included shutting down Kevin Durandt during the 4-0 series win over the Brooklyn Nets and going up against Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo to pull the Celtics through to a 4-3 series win.

In addition to Tatum’s strong showing, the Celtics also showed a remarkable improvement in their performances throughout the season. Boston began the current season with an underwhelming 23-24 record before gradually climbing their way up to 2nd place on the Eastern Conference rankings.

Just when it seemed that Boston Celtics found their footing after struggling for better part of the season, the team was hit with another setback just in time for the playoffs. In the match against Orlando Magic, which was their final home game of the season, Celtics did not only suffered 116-108 loss but also saw Jayson Tatum and Marcus Smart suffering injuries.

Tatum, who is Boston’s second-leading scorer with 15.9 points per game, played only six minutes against Orlando before exiting the game. The 21-year-old, who was previously dealing with a shin contusion, said after the game that his leg felt “funny” after one jump and that he didn’t want to risk a more severe injury.

“Tatum had a shin contusion that evidently he had before the game, and I didn’t know about it,” – said Celtics’ head coach Brad Stevens. “But he just said it felt a little off when he jumped, so, you know, hopefully, it’s nothing major, but he’ll get checked out tonight and tomorrow and we’ll go from there.”

Smart, on the other hand, left the game against Magic in the third quarter after scoring six points and having four steals. According to Celtics’, the 25-year-old guard suffered an oblique bruise.

“Marcus Smart has an oblique bruise, which means he got hit right there,” – said Stevens. “And so, I guess that’s better than a strain or whatever, but we’ll see what that looks like tomorrow.  He was a little sore but was walking around, which was good, in the locker room. So obviously, I’m glad we got out of there without anything else after that.”

Jayson Tatum and Marcus Smart are a big part of Boston Celtics’ rotation, so the team hopes that they won’t have to miss significant time. Both should be ready by the start of the playoffs, but further information will be revealed in the upcoming days.
