The Boston Celtics’ star Jayson Tatum finally has an ejection from an NBA game on his resume. Tatum was ejected for the first time in his pro career on Monday night in a 109-94 loss to the New York Knicks.
The 24-year-old All-Star got flagged for his second technical foul late in the fourth quarter after appearing to argue with the referees. The second technical brought to an end a frustrating night for Tatum that saw him shoot 6-18 from the field, including just 1-9 on three-pointers and scoring 14 points.
Speaking with reporters after the game, Tatum said that he wasn’t sure why he had been ejected. However, he didn’t seem to feel too bad about it.
“But all the great players get thrown out a few times in their career,” Tatum added. “So, it’s good for my rep.”
Jayson Tatum is currently playing his best season as a pro. He is averaging career highs in minutes (37.3), points (30.1), rebounds (8.7), and assists (4.7). As a result, the Boston Celtics have been the top team in the NBA for the better part of the season.
However, the loss to the Knicks temporarily knocked the Celtics from the top of the Eastern Conference. They dropped to the No. 2 with a 44-18 record, while the Milwaukee Bucks moved to the first seed at 43-17.
