New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has expressed his concerns that quarterback Jameis Winston may have suffered an injury setback that is more severe than first appeared. The quarterback was carried off of the field during the second quarter of his side’s 36-27 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following a knee injury.

Winston’s injury stemmed from a horse-collar tackle by Buccanneers linebacker Devin White. White pulled the quarterback down by his jersey in the shoulder area, thereby causing him to land awkwardly.

Payton explained that it was difficult to view Winston in his injured state, even admitting to being moved to tears while waiting for doctors to provide a more detailed diagnosis.

Despite his injury concerns, Winston remained in high spirits following the Saints’ convincing victory and was even spotted dancing on crutches in the locker room with the rest of the team following the victory.

“First I want to say how gutted I am for Jameis. This win was for him,” fellow quarterback Trevor Siemian said with regards to his teammate’s injury. “I just feel for the guy, I love him so much. Just being around him, you can’t help it, he’s got this infectious personality. And you’re just frickin’ gutted when you see anybody hurt. But watching him get hurt was tough.”

The New Orleans Saints kicked off their post-Drew Brees era better than anyone could expect. Led by new starting quarterback Jameis Winston, the Saints trashed their NFC rivals, the Green Bay Packers, on Sunday and claimed a dominant 38-3 win.

The Saints’ win was even more impressive considering they had to welcome the Packers on Jacksonville’s TIAA Bank Field due to Hurricane Ida. The team was also forced to spend the last two weeks away from New Orleans, practicing at the Dallas Cowboy’s AT&T Stadium and the facilities of Texas Christian University.

Winston was a standout performer for the Saints, taking care of the football while throwing for 148 yards and five touchdowns.

Winston also had huge help from his defense, which continuously pressured the Packers and stopped them from developing any kind of offensive game.

As a result, Green Bay superstar QB Aaron Rodgers had one of his worst games in recent memory. Rodgers managed to complete just 53.6 percent of his passes while also throwing two interceptions. His first interception came in the red zone, preventing the Packers from putting points on the board and get back into the game. The second interception was returned all the way to Green Bay’s 12-yard line, setting up an easy TD for Winston.

Towards the end of the game, the Packers took Rodgers out and sent second-year signal-caller Jordan Love on the field. Love also failed to spark Green Bay’s offense, fumbling the ball in the red zone with 1:06 left on the clock.

“That was for the city,” Winston said in a post-game conference. “We did that for them. We knew how much it would mean to get a great victory for that region. They’ve been through so much.”

The New Orleans Saints travel to Carolina next week to face the Panthers. The Green Bay Packers, on the other hand, host the Detroit Lions in Week 2.

Sources within the New Orleans Saints organization are not expecting to have their legendary quarterback Drew Brees back next season.

Many believe that the 41-year-old quarterback will retire at the end of this season and take a job as a broadcaster with NBC.

Brees had a very trying year and suffered a number of very serious injuries, including 11 fractured ribs and a punctured lung.

Many expected Brees to retire last year, but he surprised the organization, saying that he wanted to play another year.

Brees currently has a signed contract with NBC and most believe that he will be working as a broadcaster for Notre Dame football games to start. Sources expect that Brees is being groomed to take over for 61-year-old Cris Collinsworth once he decides to leave the Sunday Night Football booth.

Brees and the Saints will face the Chicago Bears in the first round of the playoffs on Sunday.

Brees led the Saints to their first and only Super Bowl title in 2010. He’s also a future Hall of Famer who has put up record numbers in just about every offensive category over the course of his career.

Currently, the Saints have Taysom Hill and former No. 1 pick Jameis Winston on the roster as options at quarterback when Brees decides to leave.

When New Orleans Saints lost starting quarterback Drew Brees to ribs and lung injuries earlier this week, it was expected that backup Jameis Winston would take his place under center for the upcoming game against Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. But according to recent reports, this won’t be the case.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Friday that Saints decided to turn to versatile Taysom Hill as their QB and have given him all practice reps with the starting lineup throughout the week.

Brees started last week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers but didn’t return for the second halftime. Winston stepped up in his place, attempting 10 passes in the remaining two quarters and completing six for 63 yards. This was only the 26-year-old’s second feature this season, after taking 10 snaps in Week 9.

It looks like the Saints’ coaching staff wasn’t satisfied with what they’ve seen from Winston and will now roll the dice with Hill.

The start against Atlanta will be Taysom Hill’s first in the NFL. While nominally a quarterback, Hill has been mostly used as a utility player by Saints so far in his career and has taken the field as a running back, wide receiver, tight end, and quarterback, among other positions.

In 2020, Hill made the most impact as a rusher, running for 186 yards and a touchdown in 34 carries. He also caught six passes for 64 yards and a score.

When it comes to his performance at the quarterback position, Hill has attempted five passes this season, completing four of them for 86 yards. Since coming to the NFL, he has 10 completions out of 18 attempts and has thrown for 205 yards and an interception.

The New Orleans Saints have reportedly begun closing in on a one-year deal with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, but the deal is still in the works.

With that being said, Saints’ assistant general manager Jeff Ireland made his enthusiasm about the potential partnership between Winston and his team known in a radio interview on Monday.

According to Ireland, one of the biggest draws for Winston in New Orleans is the opportunity to learn behind starting quarterback Drew Brees. Ireland made it clear, saying, “If Drew never said a word to him, he would observe more than he’ll ever learn in football just by learning how Drew does things. He’s an incredible leader. He’s an incredible studier of the game, how he breaks down his opponents.”

Brees is nearing the twilight of his NFL career but remains productive and the leader of his team, having made the Pro Bowl in each of the past four seasons.

Winston has long been lauded for his throwing arm and physical tools, but had major problems with interceptions and decision-making during his tenure as the starting quarterback in Tampa, setting a record for interceptions in a single season last year.

Along with Brees, the Saints also have acclaimed offensive minds in head coach Sean Payton and offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael. According to Ireland, “Jameis Winston will learn more football in a year than he has in his lifetime.”

Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback Jameis Winston returned to the team after serving his three-game suspension. But, lots of things changed since he left the Bucs following the start of the regular season and he might not have his job anymore.

Although Winston is their franchise quarterback, Buccaneers’ are seriously considering leaving Ryan Fitzpatrick as their starter. Fitzpatrick is 2-1 this season, and recently became the first quarterback in NFL history to have more than 400 passing yards in three consecutive games.

Bucs’ head coach Dirk Koetter is currently the only one who knows the Week 4 starter and isn’t ready to spill the beans just yet. But Jameis Winston isn’t too worried about that at the moment.

My passion for this team, my love for the team, goes beyond where I’m out there throwing the football for this team or not,” – Winston told reporters on his first day back. “Like I said, it’s my first day back. Let me enjoy that before I start answering any more questions about that.

According to the 24-year-old, the most important thing is the success team is having.

It’s about the team’s success,” โ€“ he added. “I’m not a selfish player; it’s about our team. We’re out here doing big things, and we have to continue doing it.

The overall feeling around the league is that Tampa Bay Buccaneers will continue Ryan Fitzpatrick as the starting QB as long as he plays well. So, you can expect the 35-year-old veteran to start the game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday even if Koetter doesn’t want to say it right now. He will remain at the position as long as “Fitzmagic” continues. But after it runs out, Winston will be ready to step in.
