New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has expressed his concerns that quarterback Jameis Winston may have suffered an injury setback that is more severe than first appeared. The quarterback was carried off of the field during the second quarter of his side’s 36-27 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following a knee injury.

Winston’s injury stemmed from a horse-collar tackle by Buccanneers linebacker Devin White. White pulled the quarterback down by his jersey in the shoulder area, thereby causing him to land awkwardly.

Payton explained that it was difficult to view Winston in his injured state, even admitting to being moved to tears while waiting for doctors to provide a more detailed diagnosis.

Despite his injury concerns, Winston remained in high spirits following the Saints’ convincing victory and was even spotted dancing on crutches in the locker room with the rest of the team following the victory.

“First I want to say how gutted I am for Jameis. This win was for him,” fellow quarterback Trevor Siemian said with regards to his teammate’s injury. “I just feel for the guy, I love him so much. Just being around him, you can’t help it, he’s got this infectious personality. And you’re just frickin’ gutted when you see anybody hurt. But watching him get hurt was tough.”
