The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Nashville Predators 4-1 on Sunday night to claim their 16th straight victory, moving just one game within tying the NHL record for most consecutive wins. The standing record was set by the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 1992-93 season.

“This past week wasn’t our best hockey,” Oilers center Connor McDavid admitted. “But we found a way to get three wins, which is a great sign.” McDavid scored one goal and grabbed two assists against the Predators, as did Leon Draisaitl. Goalie Stuart Skinner also proved crucial on the night, making 28 saves.

Despite a recent slump, the Oilers remain in peak condition, going 24-3-0 in their last 27 games and achieving a franchise-record streak of 14 games without allowing more than two goals. Their impressive winning streak puts the Oilers in third place in the Western Conference Pacific Division, tying in wins with the second-placed Vegas Golden Knights despite playing five fewer games.

The Edmonton Oilers brought in some veteran help as they look to keep their franchise-record winning streak, which currently stands at 13 games, alive. According to multiple reports, the Oilers signed a four-time All-Star winger to a deal for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

Perry started the campaign with the Chicago Blackhawks, contributing four goals and five assists for a total of nine points in the first 16 games. The 38-year-old player was cut by the Blackhawks in November for “unacceptable conduct” related to a “workplace matter”.

Several teams have explored the possibility of signing Perry in recent weeks, but the Oilers move the quickest to secure his services. Perry gives them a physical presence on the ice while his feel for the game remains on an impressive level.

The Oilers had a sluggish start to the season but have recently emerged as a contender thanks to an impressive 13-game winning streak. This stretch moved them up to third place in the Pacific Division with a 26-15-1 record.

Corey Perry spent the first 14 years of his NHL career with the Anaheim Ducks before embarking on stints with the Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Blackhawks. He has Stanley Cup win with the Ducks from 2007 and won Hart Memorial Trophy in 2011. Perry has 892 points (421 goals and 471 assists) in 1273 NHL games.

Bouchard, who was a restricted free agent this offseason, will earn $3.9 million average annual salary.

Speaking in a virtual media conference after his deal was confirmed, Bouchard said that he always wanted to stay with the Oilers and that he believes the team is positioned for great things in the future.

“I think it’s a good steppingstone, good bridge,” he said. “I think in the next two years, the Oilers are going to be a real force out there, and I’m just looking to be a part of that.”

Bouchard played all 82 games for the Oilers in 2022-23, scoring eight goals and dishing 32 assists for a total of 40 points. He later added 17 points (four goals, 13 assists) in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

By locking Bouchard to a new deal, the Oilers finished the majority of their business for this offseason. The franchise previously rewarded Mattias Janmark, Derek Ryan, and Ryan McLeod with new extensions while also adding veteran winger Connor Brown in free agency.

The Edmonton Oilers’ star Connor McDavid sees a silver lining in his team’s early exit from the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs. According to McDavid, this kind of disappointment is something every team goes through before it finds success.

The Oilers ended their postseason after losing the Western Conference semifinal series to the Vegas Golden Knights. The Golden Knights finished the job in six games with a 5-2 win on Sunday.

“I really feel like you’ve got to go through some of this to win,” McDavid told reporters.

McDavid has had a spectacular 2022-23 regular season with 64 goals and adding 89 assists. With 153 points, he became only the sixth player in NHL history to get over the 150-point mark. He also added 20 points in the playoffs, but it wasn’t enough for the Oilers to embark on a deep run they expected.

The Oilers previously reached the Western Conference Finals in 2021-22 but were swept by the eventual Stanley Cup champions Colorado Avalanche.

“It feels like every team that wins and goes on a stretch of winning kind of experiences this,” McDavid added. “Obviously, it’s not what you want to do, not what you want to feel. That being said, I really feel that you’ve got to go through some of this to win. I think we’ve seen that all the way through. Let’s hope it’s the last time.”

Edmonton Oilers center Leon Draisaitl scored twice in the Oilers’ 6-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday to take his points tally to 100 for the season. In addition, NHL scoring leader Connor McDavid added one goal and an assist in the Oilers’ resounding victory.

“I thought the best player on the ice tonight was Leon Draisaitl … by a country mile,” Edmonton Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft stated after the game. “I thought he played the game like he was on a mission. I think he was 70% in the faceoff circle, he had a good conscience about him the entire game in terms of both sides of the puck, and I think when he plays in the middle, he really gets his feet moving.”

Now, Draisaitl has 44 goals in total this season, while McDavid pushed his assist tally to 73 as well as his scoring tally to 56. This is the first time since 1973-74 and 1974-75 that teammates were the first players to 100 points in the NHL for two consecutive seasons.

The Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid continues to make a case for being the best hockey player in the world. McDavid scored twice in a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Monday, bringing his points total in 2022-23 to 124 and setting a new career-high in a single NHL season.

The impressive thing about McDavid’s feat is that he only needed 65 games to eclipse a previous career-best of 123 points from last season. With Oilers having 17 more games to play, the 26-year-old will have plenty of chance to improve on the 54 goals and 70 assists he accumulated so far.

McDavid leads the NHL in goals, assists, and points this season, making him the favorite to take home the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league’s most valuable player for the third time in his career. He previously won the trophy in 2017 and 2021.

The Oilers will hope that McDavid continues his stellar performances down the stretch and keep the team on the playoff track. Edmonton team is currently fourth in Pacific Division with a 35-22-8 record and in possession of the first wild-card spot. They are four points advantage on Colorado Avalanche, who are currently slotted as the second wild-card team in the Western Conference.

Veteran defenseman Andrej Sekera announced his retirement from professional ice hockey on Tuesday, thereby wrapping up a two-decade-long career in the NHL.

The 36-year-old player made his debut in 2006, signing a three-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres. From there, he went on to play for the Carolina Hurricanes, Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers, and Dallas Stars.

Sekera played the last two years of his professional career with the Stars after Edmonton made the decision to buy out the remainder of his contract. His standout moment for the Stars came during the playoff bubble in 2020 when he blocked 38 shots in 27 games to send Dallas through to the Stanley Cup Final. That season, he played an average of almost 14 minutes per game, helping the Stars reach their third playoffs spot in four years.

On the national level, Sekera skated at two Olympic Games and represented Slovakia at the world championships on eight occasions. He won the silver medal with Slovakia in 2012 and in 2019, was awarded the captain’s armband for his nation. Sekera played 888 games in the NHL.

Controversial veteran winger Evander Kane won’t be leaving the Edmonton Oilers despite multiple reports indicating otherwise in the past couple of days. Instead, Kane decided to ink a four-year deal with the franchise that will keep him an Oiler throughout the 2025-26 NHL season.

Kane was set to become a free agent on Tuesday night, and there appeared to be slim chances of him staying in Edmonton. His representatives even got permission to talk with other teams and Kane seemed as good as gone. But then the Oilers returned with one final offer before the deadline and this push proved to be enough to seal the deal.

Reportedly, Kane would command somewhere around $7 million per year if he decided to hit the free agency. He was arguably the most prolific scorer available, and there were plenty of teams on the market for firepower. However, Kane eventually decided to stick with his guts and take less money for his Edmonton stay.

“A big part of my decision to stay in Edmonton was because of the opportunity given to me only seven months ago, but also the chance to be a part of a championship team,” Kane wrote in a statement published on social media. “I want to win, and I believe, after signing this deal, we will be able to add the right pieces along with myself to accomplish that goal.”

Evander Kane has been at the center of numerous controversies in recent years, with some of them being so severe that the San Jose Sharks decided to terminate his contract midway through the 2021–22 campaign. It didn’t need much for the Oilers to come calling, and the move worked out for both sides.

The Oilers finished second in Pacific Division and then went on a Stanley Cup playoffs run that saw them reach Conference Finals for the first time since 2005–06. On the other hand, Kane showed he can still play by contributing 39 points in 22 regular season games and then leading the league with 15 goals in the playoffs.

The NHL announced Edmonton Oilers superstar center Connor McDavid as the league’s most valuable player for the 2020-21 season. The 24-year-old star will be awarded the Hart Memorial Trophy after picking up all 100 first-place votes from Professional Hockey Writers Association voters.

This is the second time in NHL history that a player was given the MVP unanimously. The only other player to win the award in the same fashion was Wayne Gretzky, who got all first-place votes in 1981-82 while also playing for the Oilers.

McDavid wrapped up the 2020-21 regular season with 33 and 72 assists for a total of 105 points in 56 games. He led the NHL in assists and points at the end of the campaign.

McDavid received several other honors for his efforts this season. His peers voted him as the Ted Lindsay Award recipient, while he also picked up his third career Art Ross Trophy and got selected to NHL First All-Star Team.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t carry over his good run to the Stanley Cup playoffs as Edmonton got swept in the first round by the Winnipeg Jets.

Center Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs finished as a runner-up in Hart Memorial Trophy voting, picking up 69 second-place votes, while Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon rounded up the top three.
