The Phoenix Suns’ task of overcoming the New Orleans Pelicans in the first round of the 2021-22 NBA playoffs became a lot harder on Wednesday. The Suns not only lost Game 2, but will also have to play their next two games against the Pelicans without their best player Devin Booker.

Booker reportedly has a hamstring strain, which he suffered in the third quarter of the 114-125 loss to New Orleans. The injury was most likely a result of his attempt to challenge the dunk of center Jaxson Hayes late in the third quarter.

The Suns believe that Booker’s injury is mild and that he will be able to return at some point in this series. However, the 25-year-old All-Star is expected to miss at least Games 3 and 4.

The No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, the Suns took care of business in Game 1 against the Pelicans and got an easy 110-99 win. It looked like it might be the same in Game 2 before New Orleans flipped the script in the second half to tie the series.

While the Suns’ are known to play complementary basketball, having Devin Booker on the sidelines will probably be a massive blow for the whole team. Booker was one of the main reasons for Phoenix’s great run in 2021-22, averaging career-highs in points (26.8), rebounds (5.0), and steals (1.1). He continued in the same fashion in the playoffs, scoring 25 points in Game 1 and following it with 31 points in the first half of Game 2.

The Suns and the Pelicans meet for Game 3 on Friday night at Smoothie King Center.

Phoenix’s Suns’ star Devin Booker has some notable achievements in his young NBA career, including making the All-Rookie team, being  NBA Three-Point Contest champion, and earning an All-Star nod. But he still hasn’t tasted the playoffs.

Reportedly, this postseason drought isn’t sitting well with Booker and is making him want to leave Phoneix. As The Ringer’s Ryen Russillo explains it, “the worst-kept secret in the league is Booker already wants out of there.”

If this report turns out to be true, it wouldn’t be a surprising development of events. Booker expressed his dissatisfaction with the Suns’ losing ways multiple times in the past and even proclaimed back in 2018 that he is “done with not making the playoffs.”

There is no doubt that Devin Booker would have numerous suitors if he becomes available, but it is hard to see Phoenix caving in and letting their best player go.

With Booker playing at an All-Star level last season, the Suns finished the campaign with a 34-39 record and best winning percentage since 2014/15. The organization now hopes to build on this momentum next season and take another step in the right direction.

Booker finished the 2019/20 averaging 26.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game while shooting career-highs from the floor and three-point range.

Phoenix Suns’ star guard Devin Booker is done for the season. Suns’ confirmed on Thursday that Booker won’t play for the remainder of 2018/19 NBA season due to a left ankle sprain.

Booker rolled his ankle in the first quarter of Phoenix’s blowout loss against Utah Jazz on Wednesday night and didn’t return to the game.

“You know, next man up, we learned that,” – said Suns’ coach Igor Kokoskov off Booker’s injury. “Regroup, I think the first and second quarters we were playing well…It’s hard to replace a franchise, it’s hard to replace Book because he’s a special player and a special player for our team.”

Devin Booker struggled with injuries on several occasions this season and had to deal with hand and hamstring issues. Still, that didn’t stop the 22-year-old to have the best statistical season in his career. In 64 games he played this season, Booker averaged 26.6 points, 6.8 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game.

Besides Devin Booker, several other Phoenix Suns’ players have been dealing with injuries lately including Deandre Ayton (left ankle sprain), Kelly Oubre Jr. (left thumb sprain) and T.J. Warren (right ankle soreness). Also, guard Tyler Johnson underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee on Wednesday and won’t play anymore this season.

Upcoming All-Star weekend is an opportunity for NBA players to get a badly needed rest before the final push to end the season in the best way. But, Phoenix Suns’ star guard Devin Booker thinks his team should have a different approach.

According to Booker, who will be at the All-Star weekend in order to defend his 3-point contest title, Suns’ “don’t deserve an All-Star break” and need to “work” on their game instead.

“We don’t deserve an All-Star break,” – said Booker. “We need to work on our game as players. I know me, I’m going to be at All-Star weekend, but right after that, I’ve got to touch a basketball and still polish up on things. I hope that everybody has that same mindset.”

Devin Booker is once again having a great statistical NBA season, currently averaging 24.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game. Still, these numbers didn’t translate to wins for the Phoenix Suns, who will miss the playoffs for the ninth time in a row.

The Suns could easily have the worst NBA record second consecutive year as well, being 11-48 at the moment. They are also on pace to win less than 25 games for the fourth straight year.

According to several sources close to the Phoenix Suns organization, their star guard Devin Booker is set to have surgery on his hand on Monday. Booker was bothered by discomfort in his hand through the better part of the last season and has opted for the procedure in order to fix the issue after recent swelling. The surgery is set to take place in Los Angeles.

Suns currently don’t have the information on how much time the 21-year-old could miss and will have the exact timeline after the procedure. Still, there are indications that Booker might miss a couple of weeks on the start of the 2018-19 NBA season.

Phoenix Suns will hope to have Devin Booker as soon as possible, especially since they have high expectations from this season. They have a talented young roster which includes 2018’s first overall pick Deandre Ayton, and tenth overall pick Mikal Bridges, as well as and 2017’s fourth overall pick Josh Jackson. Suns also added several veterans in the offseason, including former Houston Rockets’ forward Trevor Ariza, and are ready to make a run at their first playoff appearance since 2009-10.

Devin Booker is expected to have the most significant role in reestablishing Suns as the NBA powerhouse since he developed into their best player in the past two seasons. Booker averaged 24.9 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.5 per game last season, which prompted the organization to give him a five-year, $158 million maximum contract extension earlier this summer.

Phoenix Suns have missed the NBA playoffs for the eighth season in a row, and their rising star Devin Booker has had it enough.

I’m done with not making the playoffs,” – Devin Booker said on Wednesday. “I’m serious. This is probably my last year ever not making the playoffs. If that’s putting pressure on myself, I’m going to take this summer and work that hard so that it doesn’t happen again.

Phoenix Suns had their second-worst season in the history of the franchise, finishing with a 21-61 record. Despite the talented young core consisted of Devin Booker, Josh Jackson, and TJ Warren, the Suns didn’t manage to make a significant noise in the loaded Western Conference. They only did worse in their inaugural season in the NBA, when they went 16-66 in 1968-69. Booker, who is the reigning NBA All-Star three-point champion, now wants to change the current narrative for his team with a goal of “turning the franchise around and getting it back how it used to be.”

You watch the highlights of [Charles] Barkley, [Steve] Nash and them and how alive the arena was,” – he added. “So, one of my goals is to get it back that way.

Devin Booker emerged as the face of the franchise this year and ended the season averaging 24.9 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game.

Despite the young talents on the roster, Phoenix Suns can also count on draft picks and salary cap space to help them make a serious playoff run in the future. They have the highest chance to land number one overall pick in this year’s draft, and will also have one or more additional first-round picks. The Suns will also be one of the few teams in NBA that will enter the summer free agency with more than $10 million in salary cap space.
