Wide receiver DeSean Jackson announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday. The three-time Pro Bowler will retire as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, where he spent eight out of his 15 years in the league.

Jackson’s official retirement ceremony will take place on Friday, and he’ll serve as an honorary captain for the team when the Eagles face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

“DeSean Jackson was a dynamic playmaker who captivated Eagles fans with his game-breaking speed, unique skill set, and explosive play,” said Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie in a  team-released statement. “What made DeSean truly stand out during his accomplished 15-year career was his ability to make miraculous plays look routine.”

Jackson entered the league as the Eagles’ second-round pick in 2008. He established himself as one of the most dynamic players in the league early in his career, playing both as a wideout and punt returner. He was the NFL leader in yards per punt return in his sophomore year while also having four punts returned for a touchdown throughout his first three seasons.

Jackson spent six seasons with Philadelphia, earning three Pro Bowl nods, before embarking on stints with Washington and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He returned to Philly in 2019 for his second stint with the franchise before leaving again after the 2020 campaign. The 36-year-old last played in 2022, appearing in seven games for the Baltimore Ravens and making nine catches for 153 yards.

The Las Vegas Raiders’ quarterback Derek Carr finally got the reliable deep threat he’s been missing so far in the season. Veteran wideout DeSean Jackson, who was recently released by the Los Angeles Rams, confirmed he is joining the Raiders for the remainder of the season.

Jackson broke the news via text message to ESPN’s Josina Anderson. The 34-year-old quarterback followed that up by posting a photoshopped photo of himself in the Raiders jersey on Instagram.

Jackson signed a one-year deal with the Rams in the offseason and had a good start to his stint in Los Angeles. He racked up eight catches for 215 yards and a touchdown in the first five weeks, but his role diminished later on. In the following weeks, he played only 20 snaps on offense and had one catch for six yards, which prompted him to ask for a trade.

Several teams reportedly engaged in talks with the Rams ahead of the trade deadline but the offers were not to the liking of the LA team. After the deadline passed, the organization opted to outright release Jackson.

The move to the Raiders should give DeSean Jackson a more prominent role while also allowing him to play for a contender. The team is currently sitting at a 5-3 record after Sunday’s loss to the New York Giants.

Jackson, who previously also played with the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has had three Pro Bowl appearances since coming to NFL in 2008. His stats include 620 catches for 10,877 yards and 57 TDs.

It seems like Philadelphia Eagles’ wideout DeSean Jackson just can’t catch a break. Jackson returned from a spell on the sidelines on Thursday against New York Giants only to get hurt again and face another lengthy break.

Jackson got hurt during a late punt return, being hit illegally by Giants’ Corey Ballentine. He reportedly suffered a high ankle sprain and is getting an MRI to see whether he’ll need surgery. In any case, the 33-year-old is set to be out for at least a couple of weeks.

He previously spent three weeks on Injured Reserve while dealing with a hamstring injury.

Losing Jackson comes at a bad time for the Eagles, considering they have been hampered by injuries for the better part of the season. He joins Philly’s long list of injured pass catchers that includes veteran wideout Alshon Jeffery and tight ends Dallas Goedert and Zach Ertz.

DeSean Jackson returned to Philadelphia last year, being viewed as a valuable veteran addition to the WR position. Things didn’t work out that way so far, as he spent more time on the sidelines than actually playing.

Jackson played a total of seven games with Philly in the last two seasons, totaling only 22 receptions for 314 yards and two touchdowns.

During his first stint with Eagles, between 2008 and 2013, Jackson was one of the most dangerous wideout threats in the league. He earned one All-Pro nod and three Pro Bowl selections during that time while also leading the league in average yards per catch in 2010.

The Philadelphia Eagles look set to have to deal with a tightrope situation in their wide receiving corps over the next couple weeks after finding out that deep threat DeSean Jackson is set to miss a couple of weeks with an abdominal strain.

Jackson reportedly dealt with discomfort during the team’s Week 1 win against the Washington Redskins, and aggravated the injury further during Sunday’s loss in Atlanta.

Despite the injury, Jackson starred in the opening win, catching 8 passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns.

The speedy wideout was only able to play 11 snaps for the Eagles on Sunday before he left the game, slamming his helmet on the bench in frustration after not recording a catch.

This injury puts a strain on the team’s receiving depth, considering that #2 wideout Alshon Jeffery also left Sunday’s game with a calf injury. Now, the Eagles must rely on Nelson Agholor, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, and Mack Hollins as their pass catching corps.

Hollins and Arcega-Whiteside, a rookie, have a combined total of 22 career receptions between the two.

Quarterback Carson Wentz’s job doesn’t appear that it will be easy until his top two favorite targets are return to the field, and especially Jackson.

Buccaneers wide receiver DeSean Jackson has his eyes on the Los Angeles Rams after two seasons without qualifying for the playoffs in Tampa Bay.

Jackson, 32, revealed his interest for playing in the West in a podcast hosted by Simms & Lekfoe on Wednesday. During the interview, the receiver said he’d love to join Sean McVay but noted his current contractual agreement with Buccaneers puts a limit of where he can play.

“I don’t know about Frisco, man. State tax is crazy, man. That is home too though. I don’t know,” he said. “…if anything, I would like to kind of end up in L.A., being a Ram. Sean McVay, you know, we got some connection from when I was in D.C., but we’ll see how it plays out, man. Right now, I got another year in Tampa.”

Jackson previously worked with the Los Angeles manager in Washington back when McVay was the Redskins’ offensive coordinator. Of course, McVay being one of the best coaches in the NFL has something to do with it. His team is Super Bowl bound- -and will probably qualify for the playoffs next season.

When it comes to numbers, Jackson can certainly fight for a position in the Rams’ offense positions. His career average since 2008 is 17.4 yards per catch. In 2018, he caught 41 passes for 774 yards and four touchdowns in just 12 games. Whether he gets his way out of Tampa Bay, however, is only a matter of time.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver DeSean Jackson reportedly wants to leave the organization at the end of this season after a confrontation with coach Dirk Koetter late last month.

The 32-year-old started the season on a high note, logging 275 yards and three touchdowns in Buccaneer’s first two games. By the fourth game, the wide receiver had reached 424 yards and was looking for a great season in his 11th year in the league.

With the league headed for the season finale, Jackson’s performance has dwindled and he doesn’t want to play in Tampa Bay any more. Jackson’s problems started late in November after coach Koetter confronted him for not attending practice in week 12. The receiver had a hand injury, something the coach believed didn’t warrant missing practice.

The confrontation aside, the Buccaneers plan to offload several players at the end of the season. Jackson is already scheduled to leave now that the organization has several top receivers. With his average of $43.8 receiving yards, there are few reasons Tampa Bay will want to extend Jackson’s $10 million a year contract next season.

While there are plenty of teams where Jackson could head after leaving Tampa Bay, the Redskins will probably want him back. He left Washington in 2016 after two years of being their top receiver and the team hasn’t place as a player as fast as him yet.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one of the biggest surprises in 2018 NFL season so far, having managed two convincing wins against tough opponents. One of the key reasons for this success is the team’s quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is currently playing the best football of his career. To make things even more interesting, Fitzpatrick initially supposed to be a backup and got the starting gig when Bucs’ starting QB Jameis Winston received a three-game suspension.

Once Winston becomes eligible to play in Week 4, Buccaneers will have to make a difficult decision when it comes to their starting quarterback, but it seems like Ryan Fitzpatrick will retain the job as long as he plays well. The 35-year-old even has his teammates publicly stating that they want him to remain a starter. The latest one to do so was wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who is trying to convince his team to let Fitzpatrick continue his hot streak.

He’s been playing on fire right now,” – said Jackson during his appearance on NFL Network on Monday. “With the way the team is rallying behind him and just playing lights-out football, you have to kind of honor it. You know what I’m saying? You can’t take the hot man out. You got the hot fire right now. It’s like ‘NBA Jam.’ We used to play ‘NBA Jam’ — whoever’s got that hot fire shot, you got to keep shooting, man.

And it has been one hot streak indeed. In the first two games of the season, Ryan Fitzpatrick’s 151.5 passer rating and 819 passing yards are the highest in NFL when compared to other quarterbacks. He also completed 78 percent of his passes and passed for eight touchdowns while rushing for one.

He’s putting on a show,” – Jackson added. “It’s not my decision, but I’m sure Dirk and [offensive coordinator Todd] Monken and the guys that make those calls, they’ll make sure they stay on fire until that fire is out.”

Ryan Fitzpatrick will get a chance to keep up with the good games and secure the starting spot against Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
