It has been tremulous few days for veteran wideout Demaryius Thomas. The five-time Pro Bowler was first released by the New England Patriots over the weekend as part of roster cuts, only to be re-signed by the team several days later.

Thomas joined the Patriots in April on an incentives-loaded one-year deal and actually had a good showing in the preseason despite working his way back from an Achilles injury. He was especially productive in the team’s 29-31 loss to New York Giants on Friday, recording seven receptions for 87 yards and two touchdowns.

Despite this, New England released Thomas on Saturday in a series of moves that got their roster to 53 players. The 31-year-old didn’t sign with a new team in the coming days, and that’s when Pats came back calling when a roster spot opened due to rookie N’Keal Harry’s injury.

While we must assume that these were several nerve-wracking days for Demaryius Thomas, he still got something out of it. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Thomas’ got a raise, and will now earn $1.5 million compared to $1.2 million on his previous contract.

Thomas spent the first eight and a half years of his career with Denver Broncos, managing to get a Super Bowl ring with the team in 2015. He was traded midway through 2018 season to Houston Texans, where he made 23 catches for 275 yards and two touchdowns in seven games.

New England Patriots are loading up on the wide receiver position. The team announced on Tuesday that they have signed free-agent WR Demaryius Thomas to a deal. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Thomas inked a one-year, $6 million deal.

The team confirmed the move on their official social media while also announcing they have re-signed cornerback Jonathan Jones.

Thomas started 2018 with Denver Broncos before being traded to the Houston Texans mid-season for a fourth-round pick. However, he only managed to play three games with the Texans before tearing up his Achilles. The 31-year-old ended the year playing 12 games and catching 43 passes for 501 yards and five touchdowns.

With Demaryius Thomas, New England Patriots will get a proven veteran who went for 1,000+ yards in five consecutive seasons. Thomas, who was a first round pick in 2011, also has a Super Bowl ring in his collection while being named to five Pro Bowls. His NFL career stats include 688 receptions for 9,330 yards and 62 touchdowns.

Jonathan Jones signed with New England in 2016 as an undrafted free agent. Since then he played 48 regular season games (10 as a starter) and has tallied 98 tackles, 2.5 sacks and four interceptions.
