Pro Bowl wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has made up his mind on where he wants to play in 2023. According to multiple reports from league insiders, Hopkins is set to sign a contract with the Tennessee Titans.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Hopkins will get a two-year deal that has a base value of $26 million and could be potentially worth $32 million. The veteran wideout will earn $12 million guaranteed this upcoming season, with an additional $3 million being available in incentives.

Hopkins spent the 2022 campaign with the Arizona Cardinals, where he had 64 catches for 717 yards and three touchdowns despite playing only nine games. The Cardinals ended up releasing him in May after the two sides couldn’t agree on a contract restructure that would lower his $30.75 million cap hit.

The Arizona Cardinals made a decision on Friday to move on from All-Pro wideout DeAndre Hopkins. The move comes after the franchise tried and failed to trade the veteran wide receiver this offseason.

The Cardinals made the move official with an announcement posted on their social media.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Cardinals will take on a $22.6 million dead-money cap hit in 2023 as a result of releasing Hopkins. They will also clear around $7.4 million in salary cap space and avoid paying the player’s $19.45 million salary for this upcoming season, as he didn’t have any guaranteed money left on his deal.

Reportedly, the Cardinals tried to move DeAndre Hopkins for the better part of the offseason but found out that there was no market for him considering his huge deal. The teams were willing to engage in negotiations only if Hopkins would rework his contract and take a smaller salary, something that the player was unwilling to do.

“What were the Texans thinking?,” is the question most sports fans are asking themselves today. Houston traded star receiver DeAndre Hopkins along with a fourth-round draft pick to the Arizona Cardinals, in return for running back David Johnson, a 2nd round pick, and a 2021 fourth-rounder.

Houston not only lost one of the best receivers in the game, but they also took on a struggling running back in David Johnson, with a contract of over $10 million for the coming season. The Texans lost their first-round pick in an earlier trade, and their mid second-round pick acquired from Arizona has no chance of coming close to replacing Hopkin’s talent.

The Arizona Cardinals picked up one of the best receivers in the game to go along with longtime stud Larry Fitzgerald and rising wideout Christian Kirk. Hopkins had 8,602 receiving yards in seven seasons with Houston and gives the Cardinals the addition they need to form one of the best receiving corps in the NFL.

Although we have yet to see how the trade will pan out, for now, it seems that the Cardinals are the clear winners. With all professional sports being canceled indefinitely, this head-scratching deal leaves fans with plenty of time to analyze it.
