Huston Dynamo’s winger DaMarcus Beasley decided to retire from professional soccer at the end of 2019 MLS season. Beasley, who is currently in his 20th season as a pro, announced the decision via social media post.

“Before my 37th birthday, I’d just like to say that this year will be my last,” – Beasley wrote. “I appreciate all the love, cheers, and jeers throughout these past 20 years. Being on the pith has fulfilled every dream I could have ever imagined. Thank you and more words on another day!”

Beasley considered retirement after the 2018 season but decided to return on a one-year deal in 2019. He only appeared in one match this year, however, as he struggled with a knee injury.

DaMarcus Beasley started his career in MLS with LA Galaxy and Chicago Fire, before embarking on stints with several European clubs including PSV and Rangers. Beasley returned to the U.S. in 2014 when he signed a designated player contract with Houston Dynamo.

Besides being one of MLS’ greats, Beasley is also considered a USMNT legend. He made 126 appearances for the national team and managed to score 17 goals. He is also the only U.S. player to take part in four FIFA World Cup competitions.

DaMarcus Beasley is staying in the MLS in 2019, and will play his 20th professional season with the Houston Dynamo. Beasley, who joined Dynamo in 2014, inked a one-year deal.

“The Dynamo have to face a very challenging schedule and DaMarcus has been an outstanding pillar for our team, helping us create a mentality of competing to win at all times,” – said Houston’s coach Wilmer Cabrera in a team statement.

DaMarcus Beasley was more than solid for the Houston Dynamo in the 2018 season, playing 26 games as a starter. The 36-year-old also provided a goal and two assists for Dynamo in a disappointing campaign in which the team missed out on the playoffs with 10-8-16 record.

After starting his professional career with the LA Galaxy, Beasley played for Chicago Fire before heading to Europe and signing with PSV in 2004. He had stints with several other European clubs, including Manchester City, before heading to Mexico and joining Puebla.

Beasley decided to return to Major League Soccer in 2014, signing with Dynamo. He ended up playing a total of 119 games for Houston, scoring three goals.

DaMarcus Beasley was also a valuable member of United States men’s national team, for which he played 126 games and scored 17 goals.
