Former Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is returning to college. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Bieniemy accepted an associate head coach/offensive coordinator role with the UCLA Bruins.

Bieniemy is a familiar face at UCLA, having previously served as the Bruins’ running backs coach between 2003 and 2005. He also had a couple of stints with Colorado.

After a successful stint as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator, which saw him win two Super Bowls, Bieniemy decided to leave the franchise after the 2022 campaign and take the same position with the Washington Commanders. Bienemy received an opportunity to call plays, something he didn’t do in Kansas City, and believed this might increase his odds of landing a head coaching job in the NFL.

However, the Commanders ended up going through a disappointing campaign that saw them finish with a 4-13 record. This led to the firing of head coach Ron Rivera, and Bieniemy soon followed.

In an email sent to ESPN on Saturday, Bieniemy revealed that he interviewed for several NFL jobs since leaving Commanders. One NFL team offered him a chance to serve as a running backs coach, but he ended up choosing to return to college.

“I’m excited to be here and to coach these young men and football again,” Bieniemy wrote in the email. “My expectations and desire to be excellent will never be turned down. I’m fired up. Let’s go.”

It is the end of the road for Alabama Crimson Tide’s legendary head coach, Nick Saban. According to a report by ESPN’s Chris Low, Saban informed Alabama on Wednesday that he is retiring.

Saban is walking away after spending 17 years with Crimson Tide and leading the program to six national championships and 13 SEC titles. Alabama reached the College Football Playoffs in 2023 before being eliminated in the semifinals with a 27-20 overtime loss to Michigan.

Saban is considered one of the greatest coaches in college football history. He coached 28 seasons at the college level with Toledo, Michigan State, LSU, and Alabama without ever having a losing season. He has a total of seven national titles, winning one with LSU and six with Alabama. No other coach since 1998 has more than three.

Saban will end his career with a 292-71-1 record as a head coach in college football. His 292 wins rank him 12th all-time among head coaches in NCAA, while his 201 games won with Alabama are second-most with a single school in SEC history.

Saban spent time coaching in the NFL. He was an assistant with the Houston Oilers and defensive coordinator with the Cleveland Browns before landing a head coaching job with the Miami Dolphins in 2005. Texas A&M shocked the college football world on Sunday by firing their head coach Jimbo Fisher. The move will result in a record contract buyout for a public school.

According to reports, Fisher will receive $76 million after leaving the Aggies. This includes a $19.2 million package in the next month and $7.2 million in annual payments through 2031.

Texas A&M announced that assistant head coach and run game coordinator Elijah Robinson will serve as Aggies’ interim head coach for the remainder of the 2023 season.

The Aggies have had a losing record (5-7) last season and went 6-4 in 2023. According to Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork, the university believed it needed to do something in order for their football program to reach its full potential. He also hinted that the decision about Fisher’s fate was largely decided following a 35-38 loss to Ole Miss in early November.

Former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury is set to join USC’s staff, sources revealed to ESPN on Monday. Kingsbury’s appointment is expected to be made final in the coming weeks.

USC coach Lincoln Riley will provide Kingsbury with a Trojans reunion, with the ex-Cardinals coach formerly acting as USC’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in December 2018.

Kingsbury left the team a month later to become the Cardinals’ head coach, where he remained for four years. With a record of 28-37-1 during his four seasons as head coach, Kingsbury led the Cardinals to the playoffs once.

Former Arkansas Razorbacks and NFL running back Peyton Hillis has been taken off his ventilator, his girlfriend Angela Cole announced on social media on Thursday. She explained that while he is well on the road to recovery, “he’s still got a ways ahead of him.”

Hillis has been hospitalized since January 4, when he was in critical condition after being injured while attempting to rescue a family member in a near-drowning incident off the coast of Pensacola, Florida.

Escambia County emergency services, which was involved in the rescue, noted that there were four people—two adults and two children—who were struggling to stay afloat in the water when a bystander attempted to help them out. After paramedics arrived on the scene, both adults were transported to the hospital, with one being taken by helicopter. The authorities declined to divulge the identities of the individuals involved.

Greg Hillis, who identified himself as the retired football player’s uncle, stated that his nephew had suffered issues with his kidneys and lungs.

The Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart is getting a handsome reward for bringing the program its third national title in 2022. According to multiple reports, Smart inked a new 10-year, $112.5 million contract that will make him the highest-paid coach in college football.

The University of Georgia announced the deal on their official website, stating that Smart is now locked to the program through the 2031 season. However, the announcement didn’t contain the financial terms of the agreement.

After just three seasons in charge of the Tennessee Volunteers, sources have revealed that the university is set to fire head coach Jeremy Pruitt after two losing seasons and an NCAA investigation.

Pruitt was hired to coach the Vols prior to the 2018 season after spending two seasons as the Alabama Crimson Tide’s defensive coordinator. He was brought in with the hopes that he would revitalize a long-dormant giant, but was unable to do so in Knoxville.

The Alabama native limped to a 5-7 record during his first season with the Vols but then improved to 8-5 with a Gator Bowl win over Indiana in 2019.

However, things went downhill again this season when the team finished 3-7 and failed to qualify for a bowl game.
