The Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart is getting a handsome reward for bringing the program its third national title in 2022. According to multiple reports, Smart inked a new 10-year, $112.5 million contract that will make him the highest-paid coach in college football.

The University of Georgia announced the deal on their official website, stating that Smart is now locked to the program through the 2031 season. However, the announcement didn’t contain the financial terms of the agreement.

“I am excited for our football program’s continued success under his direction,” said Georgia’s director of athletics Josh Brooks. “The future of Georgia Football remains bright with Coach Smart as its steadfast leader.”

Smart actually played college football with Bulldogs, while Georgia was also the place where he started his college career in the late 1990s. He later spent time with various programs in different roles before making a name for himself with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Smart served as Alabama’s defensive coordinator for eight years before taking the Bulldogs’ head coaching job in 2016.

During his time as the Bulldogs’ head coach, Smart compiled a 66-15 record. He won five Bowls and beat his mentor Nick Saban and Crimson Tide in 2021’s national championship game.

“It’s an honor being the head football coach at the University of Georgia, and while I’m certainly proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish, I’m confident the best is yet to come,” said Smart in a statement.
