New York Giants wide receiver Cole Beasley has been taken off of his team’s practice squad as per the player’s wishes. Although he still intends to play football, Beasley decided to ask for his release as he does not envision a scenario in which he would make the Giants’ active roster.

Beasley started the season on injured reserve due to harboring a quad injury that he picked up during training camp. While he has since returned to fitness, the Giants have not had a place for him on their squad with the likes of Darius Slayton, Isaiah Hodgins, Wan’Dale Robinson, Parris Campbell, Jalin Hyatt, and Sterling Shepard all filling places on the active roster.

Currently, in his 12th professional season, Beasley has made 556 career catches for 5,744 yards and 34 touchdowns with the Buffalo Bills, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The New York Giants bolstered their offense on Friday with a pair of veteran free agents. The franchise announced that they have signed wideout Cole Beasley and running back James Robinson.

Beasley comes to New York with 11 years of NFL experience, having played with the Dallas Cowboys, the Buffalo Bills, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 34-year-old player has 556 career catches for 5,744 yards and 34 touchdowns.

The move will reunite Beasley with Giants’ head coach Brian Daboll. The two previously worked together in Buffalo during Daboll’s time as the offensive coordinator for the Bills.

Robinson entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He spent the first two and a half years of his pro career with the Jacksonville Jaguars before being traded to the New York Jets midway through the 2022 campaign. He has 2,262 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns in his three seasons in NFL.

The addition of Robinson could prove crucial for the Giants, considering that they might not have their leading rusher, Pro Bowler Saquon Barkley, on the field for Week 1. Barkley and the Giants failed to agree on a long-term contract, and the 26-year-old player indicated that he is considering sitting out and refusing to play on a franchise tag.

The Buffalo Bills turned to a familiar face in attempts to add depth at the slot receiver position. According to reports, the Bills convinced wideout Cole Beasley to end his retirement and are signing him to their practice squad.

Beasley spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers early in 2022, playing a cameo role in two games and catching four passes for 17 yards. He announced his retirement after Week 4, saying he wants to spend more time with his family.

Beasley first signed with the Bills in 2019, coming to Buffalo after seven seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. He earned a Second-Team All-Pro nod in his second season with the Bills but followed that up with an underwhelming campaign in 2021.

The SMU product requested a trade from the Bills during the 2022 offseason, but there were no takers for him at the time. This prompted the Bills to release him and make him a free agent.

While it is clear that Cole Beasley isn’t a player who can make a difference anymore, he might be a great depth piece for the Bills. Beasley knows the offense, has a connection with quarterback Josh Allen, and is capable of getting the first down when the team needs it the most.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed veteran wideout Cole Beasley in an attempt to add depth to the wide receiver corps that is ravaged by injuries and suspensions. According to multiple reports, Beasley will first join the Bucs’ practice squad but is expected to become part of the active roster before the upcoming game against the Green Bay Packers.

According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Tampa signed Beasley, who was a free agent, partly because quarterback Tom Brady was in favor of his arrival.

Despite entering the season with one of the most talented wideout groups in the league, the Bucs now find themselves lacking weapons on the offense. Veterans Chris Godwin and Julio Jones are currently out with injuries, while their No. 1 WR Chris Evans was suspended for unsportsmanlike conduct in last week’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

While Cole Beasley isn’t on the level as the previously mentioned trio, he showed in past years that he could be an impactful player. Beasley had 82 receptions in each of the past two seasons and was reliable in the slot throughout his career.

Beasley has a 10-year of experience in the league, having played with the Dallas Cowboys and the Buffalo Bills so far. His career stats include 550 receptions for 5,709 yards and 34 touchdowns. He was selected to Second-team All-Pro in 2020.

There were many people who weren’t too happy with the way Buffalo Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen played in his rookie season and are already calling him a “bust.” But if you ask Bill’s new wide receiver Cole Beasley, they just didn’t watch enough film on the young QB.

Beasley, who recently joined the Bills on a four-year, $29 million contract, recently  talked about Allen and said that the 22-year-old doesn’t deserve the criticism he receives.

“[I watched the] film. You can see it,” – Beasley said according to NYup.com. “It doesn’t matter what people say. You can tell what a guy’s about by watching him play. I’ve seen clips of him. I’ve seen him do things with his legs and the way he throws the ball. I just want to come here and help him as much as I can.”

According to Beasley, Allen was one of the reasons he chose the Bills in the first place.

“[He’s] a good dude,” – he added. “I love that [he was the first to call]. It’s just the willingness to get better and work. You always can get better no matter what stage you are in your career. I could tell and hear it through the phone that he was hungry and eager to get better. He wants to do this thing the right way and turn this thing around.”

Josh Allen, who was taken seventh overall by Buffalo in 2018 NFL Draft, started the last season as a backup to Nathan Peterman. He quickly assumed the starting QB position after Peterman was benched in Week 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens when he posted 0.0 passer rating.

Allen ended up playing 12 games in his rookie season, showing big inconsistency but also flashes of his talent and amazing arm strength. He finished the year completing 52.8 percent of his passes for 2,074 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 631 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns.
