Manchester United finally managed to secure their first notable transfer this summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League club will welcome veteran midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen will come to Old Trafford on a three-year deal. His arrival is expected to become official once the player undergoes a medical.

Eriksen spent the second part of the 2021-22 season with Brentford. He joined the London club after a six-month break that was caused by the cardiac arrest he suffered during UEFA Euro 2020. Despite his career previously being in danger of ending prematurely, the 30-year-old managed to put together a solid campaign that saw him score one goal and dish four assists. More importantly, he created the third-most chances among all Premier League players during that time span.

After it became clear that the heart issues are not an obstacle for Eriksen to play at a high level, several prominent clubs attempted to sign him this offseason, including Man Utd and Tottenham Hotspur. Brentford was also aggressive in their attempts to keep him around, but the player reportedly wanted to play in European competitions.

The move was expected for a while now due to Eriksen’s health condition. After collapsing at Euro 2020 this summer, the 29-year-old was diagnosed with a heart condition that required him to undergo surgery, during which he was fitted with a device known as “heart starter.” Seria A rules prohibit players who have the device to play in an official game, so Inter had no other option but to allow Eriksen to leave.

“Although Inter and Christian are now parting ways, the bond shall never be broken,” Inter said in a club-released statement. “The good times, the goals, the victories, those Scudetto celebrations with fans outside San Siro, all this will remain forever in Nerazzurri history. All the best, Chris!”
