Los Angeles Chargers’ secondary has been hit with another major blow. After safety Derwin James went down for the season during training camp, Chargers now also lost corner Chris Harris for the foreseeable future.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Harris suffered a foot injury during a 16-21 loss to Carolina Panthers on Sunday and will be out for between four and six weeks. Rapoport adds that the Chargers expect the 31-year-old Pro Bowler to return to action at some point this season.

Harris joined Los Angeles Chargers in the offseason, signing a two-year, $20 million deal. He recorded 15 tackles (one for loss) and one pass defended in the first three games with the organization.

Prior to coming to LA, Chris Harris played nine years with Denver Broncos. During that time, he established himself as one of the best corners in the game despite entering the league as an undrafted free agent. Harris has four career Pro Bowl appearances and three All-Pro selections, while he was also named into NFL 2010s All-Decade Team.

Harris’ career stats include 518 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 90 pass deflections, 20 interceptions, and four defensive touchdowns.

The four-time Pro Bowler Chris Harris Jr. is taking on a new challenge. According to reports, Harris Jr. is leaving Denver Broncos, the team he spent his entire pro career with, to join Los Angeles Chargers.

Harris will join Chargers on a two-year deal as a free agent. The deal is reportedly worth $20.5 million and fully guaranteed.

While the deal can’t be made official just yet, Harris confirmed his departure via social media post.

This was an expected turn of events, as the relationship between the veteran corner and Broncos organization turned sour last year. Harris was looking for a new deal that would give him long-term security, while Denver was unwilling to make such a commitment. In the end, Harris received a salary bump up to $12.05 million for 2019, but it was clear his time in Denver was over.

Chris Harris Jr. joined Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2011. After an encouraging rookie year, Harris was promoted to a starter and went on to establish himself as one of the best young corners in the league in the following couple of seasons. Between 2011 and 2018, he made four Pro Bowls while also helping Broncos win a Super Bowl title in 2015.

Harris’ career stats include 518 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 90 pass deflections, 20 interceptions, and four defensive touchdowns.

Denver Broncos’ cornerback Chris Harris Jr. was recently quite vocal in his wishes to get a new contract from the team. Harris was so set on the better deal that he even told the team to trade him if they don’t want to pay him. Well, this obviously worked as Broncos ended up honoring his request.

Broncos announced on Tuesday that they have agreed to an improved contract with Harris, which will keep him with the team at least until the end of 2019 NFL season. Although Denver didn’t release the financial terms of the deal, ESPN reports that the 29-year-old Pro Bowler got his yearly salary bumped from $8.9 million to $12.05 million.

Harris was limited to only 12 games in 2018 due to a broken fibula but still managed to contribute 49 tackles, 1.0 sacks, three interceptions, and one touchdown.

“We have a lot of respect for Chris as a player and for everything, he’s meant to our organization,” – said Broncos’ general manager John Elway in a statement. “This contract adjustment recognizes his value to our team and the high expectations we have for Chris as a Bronco this season and hopefully for years to come.”

Since signing with Denver Broncos in 2011 as an undrafted free agent, Chris Harris Jr. established himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the league. Harris’ career highlights include Super Bowl ring, four Pro Bowl appearances and one First-Team All-Pro honor.

Denver Broncos officially began their offseason workouts on Tuesday, but their star cornerback Chris Harris Jr. was nowhere to be seen. According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, Harris decided to skip the workouts as he is looking to get a new contract this offseason.

Harris’ current contract expires after this season and is set to pay him $7.8 million in 2019. Although he is considered one of the best corners in the game, this figure places him 23rd on the list of highest paid CBs in the league. According to sources, Broncos are willing to discuss the new deal with the 29-year-old Pro Bowler but would prefer to wait until the 2019 NFL Draft.

Despite Denver’s struggles, Chris Harris had a great statistical season in 2019 and earned a Pro Bowl invite although he only played 12 games. He finished the year with 49 tackles, 1.0 sacks, and three interceptions while managing to score one defensive touchdown.

Harris was a consistent performer for Denver Broncos ever since they signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2011. He was part of Super Bowl-winning team in 2015 and has four Pro Bowl appearances alongside one First-team All-Pro and two Second-team All-Pro honors. His career stats include 462 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 19 interceptions and four defensive touchdowns.

Confidence is a key quality in any side and training camp the place to instill it. Especially when the team comes off a season of poor performance. In Denver, Vance Joseph already worked miracles in that respect. Cornerback Chris Harris Jr. is buzzing about the new season already.

Harris told fans via the Broncos website, “I don’t see anybody just shutting [our offense] down with our receivers that we got. Our O-line is way better. I see them putting up points. At least 30 a game.”

Presumably, this isn’t the same Broncos offense which had the second-worst give-away/takeaway differential; -17 with only Cleveland’s -28 worse.

A soft under center left them struggling with Lynch, Osweiler, and Siemian all failing to provide a solution to repetitive sloppy play.

Case Keenum’s arrival perked everyone on the roster up with Harris capturing the enthusiasm.

“Our offense is way better than they were last year,” he said. “With Case under center, he’s throwing great balls, he’s had great accuracy all of camp. He’s improved from OTAs.”

In truth, the bar for improvement is low; Broncos offense managed 18.1 points per tussle last season. In contrast, Keenum, with support from Royce Freema, is capable of that on an off-day.

“I think everybody is excited. We love being the underdog. Everybody’s sleeping on us. I wouldn’t sleep on us too much no more. Not with our quarterback.”

If Harris’ enthusiasm translates into points, the Broncos will buck their way through to the postseason with little trouble. However, the real test comes if anything causes Keenum’s form to dip. Can last year’s lackluster attack snap out of their malaise quicker this time?
