The Chicago White Sox All-Star center fielder Luis Robert Jr. is facing a lengthy absence due to a hip flexor strain. According to Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times, Robert will miss anywhere between six and eight weeks while recovering.

Robert got hurt during Friday’s 10-1 loss to Kansas City Royals while rounding 1st base in the 9th inning. The White Sox placed him on a 10-Day Injured List over the weekend but didn’t disclose how much time he’ll miss.

Van Schouwen’s reports about Robert’s possible return seem to be optimistic. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale previously reported there is a concern among some members of the White Sox organization that Robert might be out for three to four months. The player already dealt with a similar injury in 2021 and was sidelined for more than three months.

Luis Robert Jr. had a breakthrough season in 2023, appearing in a career-high 145 games and finishing the campaign with a .264 batting average to go with 38 home runs and 80 RBIs. He earned his first All-Star nod while also winning a Silver Slugger Award.

So far in 2024, Robert batted .214 with two home runs and four RBIs as the White Sox opened the season with just one win and eight losses.

After spending months on the free agent market, veteran righty Mike Clevinger is back where he was last season. According to MLB Insider Robert Murray, Clevinger will rejoin the Chicago White Sox on a one-year deal.

Clevinger signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the White Sox in 2023 and started 24 games with the team. He finished the campaign with a 9-9 record, 3.77 ERA, and 110 strikeouts. After the season ended, Clevinger didn’t pick up his $12 million option for 2024 and instead opted for a $4 million buyout.

This development turned out to be favorable for the White Sox, considering they will now get Clevinger on a much cheaper deal. Murray reports that the agreement between the two sides comes with a $3 million salary and an additional $3 million in incentives.

Clevinger will join the White Sox rotation that includes lefty Garrett Crochet, All-Star Michael Soroka, newly-acquired Erick Fedde and veteran Chris Flexen. The team is also expected to rely on rookie Nick Nastrini, who is scheduled to get the start for the upcoming game against the Atlanta Braves.

Mike Clevinger received his MLB debut with the Cleveland Guardians in 2016 and spent five years with the franchise before being traded to the San Diego Padres. He missed the 2021 season due to a Tommy John surgery. Clevinger has a 60–39 career record with a 3.45 ERA and 804 strikeouts.

The San Diego Padres bolstered their rotation on Wednesday by agreeing to a trade for right-hand pitcher Dylan Cease with the Chicago White Sox.

The Padres announced they are sending prospects Drew Thorpe and Jairo Iriarte, right-hander Steven Wilson, and outfielder Samuel Zavala to Chicago in exchange for Cease.

Cease is coming off a down season in 2023, posting a 7-9 record in 33 starts with a 4.58 ERA and 214 strikeouts. However, he is only one year removed from the career-best campaign that saw him second in the American League Cy Young Award voting in 2022.

The White Sox are trending towards rebuilding, which is why trading Cease doesn’t come as a surprise. In exchange, they receive several intriguing players, with Thorpe, who is ranked No. 85 on MLB’s Top 100 Prospects ranking, being the highlight of the deal.

The Padres, on the other hand, couldn’t pass on the opportunity to add another reliable arm alongside Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove. Additionally, Cease will be under team control for two more years and will earn a modest $8 million in 2024.

Dylan Cease made his debut with the White Sox during the 2019 MLB season. He made 123 starts in the majors and has a 43-35 record with a 3.83 ERA and 792 strikeouts.

The Chicago White Sox decided against triggering the option in Tom Anderson’s contract, allowing the shortstop to become a free agent. He will consequently receive a $1 million payout, which pales in comparison to the $14 million salary he would have received had he been kept around for the 2024 season.

A two-time All-Star, Anderson struggled during the past season, posting a minus-2.0 WAR. Over the course of eight seasons, he hit .245 with one home run and 25 RBIs in 123 games. His career-best came in 2019 when he topped the MLB by hitting .335. The 30-year-old player has been hampered with injuries over the past two seasons, battling with a sprained left knee and right shoulder soreness.

Joining Anderson in free agency is Liam Hendriks, with the White Sox declining his $15 million option as well. Hendriks is not expected to return to baseball until the end of the 2024 season after having undergone Tommy John surgery.

The Chicago White Sox finally managed to move veteran closer Craig Kimbler. On Friday, the White Sox announced a trade that will see Kimbler heading to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for outfielder AJ Pollock.

The White Sox acquired Kimbler from the Cubs midway through the 2021 MLB season intending to use him in the eighth inning. However, the role proved to be a bad fit for the 33-year-old All-Star and failed to make the kind of impact Chicago hoped for. Using him as a closer, which is his natural role, was not an option due to the presence of star righty Liam Hendriks.

In November, the White Sox picked up Kimbler’s $16 million option for 2022, but the front office publicly admitted the move was made to find a trade partner. In the end, the Dodgers made the call, and both franchises have reasons to feel good about the deal.

The LA team had an interest in getting Kimbler, who has 371 saves and a 2.24 ERA as a closer in MLB, while he was with the Cubs but decided not to pull the trigger since they already had Kenley Jansen at the position. Now, Jansen’s presence won’t be the issue as the 34-year-old player left the Dodgers in free agency to sign with the Atlanta Braves.

On the other hand, the White Sox move Kimbler’s salary off their payroll while getting a player that they can actually use. Pollock, who was an All-Star in 2015, is expected to do most of his work in the right field in 2022.

Earlier this week, the Chicago White Sox made an expected decision to pick up their 2022 club option on the contract of their Craig Kimbrel. But the All-Star reliever isn’t expected to pitch much for the franchise next season despite this.

Several previous reports indicated that the White Sox have every intention to trade Kimbrel after picking his option and the team’s general manager Rick Hahn did nothing to dispute them while chatting with media on Tuesday. While speaking about the 33-year-old, Hahn said that while Chicago views him as “a potentially impactful reliever,” they are open to moving him if the opportunity presents itself.

“What we have to figure out is if it makes the most sense to have Craig in a White Sox uniform going forward or is there a better use of that spot and him perhaps via trade,” Hahn said.

Kimbrel joined the White Sox via trade from the Chicago Cubs midway through the 2021 MLB season with a reputation of being one of the game’s best closers. But considering they already had a star closer in Liam Hendriks, the team opted to use Kimbrel exclusively in the eighth inning. This proved to be a mistake, however, as the veteran struggled to make a meaningful impact.

Serving as a closer for the Cubs in the first part of the 2021 campaign, Kimbrel had a 0.49 ERA with 63 strikeouts. In the White Sox uniform, however, his ERA skyrocketed to 5.09 and he only managed 36 strikeouts.

Hahn acknowledged Kimbrel’s struggles while pointing out that the two-time Reliever of the Year might have more use to some other team.

“It didn’t work out the way we wanted last year so perhaps there’s a better use of his skills than how we were doing it,” he added. “So we have to reconsider his usage with us versus a potential trade.”

Kimbrel, who also played with the Atlanta Braves and the Boston Red Sox among other teams, made eight All-Star selections. He has a career 2.18 ERA with 1,026 strikeouts, while his 372 saves rank 9th on the MLB’s all-time list.

Don’t expect Tony La Russa to be one and done with the Chicago White Sox. According to a report from MLB Network Insider Bob Nightengale, the legendary manager is set to return in the White Sox’s dugout in 2022 despite an early playoff exit this year.

The White Sox tempted La Russa out of retirement ahead of the 2021 MLB season, hoping that the Hall of Famer could lead their talented team on a deep playoff run. This bold move seemed to have paid off as Chicago clinched AL Central title ahead of the schedule and finished the campaign with the franchise-best record (93-69) since 2005.

However, the great regular season performances didn’t carry over to the postseason, and the White Sox were an easy four-game out for the Houston Astros in ALDS. This prompted rumor about La Russa’s uncertain future in Chicago, but it now seems that the 77-year-old legend will have a chance to make amends next year.

The news about La Russa’s stay is expected to be received well among the Chicago White Sox players considering many of them campaigned to have him back next season.

“I want him to be back,” star shortstop Tim Anderson told reporters on Thursday. “At the end of the day, my decision doesn’t really matter. I guess it all depends on what the front office thinks. I definitely want him in. I think he did a great job with the way he managed and just being open.”

This is La Russa’s second stint with the White Sox as he started his managerial career with the franchise. He also managed Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals, winning one World Series with the Athletics and two with the Cardinals.

People may not have forgotten what the Houston Astros did a few years ago, but they’re still here, and they’re still going strong.

In case you may have forgotten, the Astros won the World Series over the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017—and a few years later, it was discovered that they had cheated. However, this hasn’t slowed the Astros down in the slightest, especially now that they’ve just eliminated the Chicago White Sox in the first round of this year’s MLB playoffs.

Houston will now advance to their fifth straight ALCS, a truly impressive feat, all things considered. They’ll face off against the Boston Red Sox, a team that looks quite formidable both on paper and performance as well.

The Astros thwarted Chicago with a convincing 10-1 victory, making the series 3-1 and thus advancing with ease.

Clearly they haven’t had any issues with fans booing them and other words that have been spoken about their team, including them being nicknamed the “Houston Asterisks”.

If they can make it to another World Series, it should be an entertaining one—especially if it’s against the Los Angeles Dodgers again.

Chicago White Sox will likely have to play out the 2021 MLB season without their slugger Eloy Jimenez. The news was confirmed by White Sox’s general manager Rick Hahn, who told reporters on Thursday that Jimenez is dealing with a ruptured pectoral tendon and is expected to be out between five and six months.

White Sox confirmed Jimenez’s injury on their social media shortly after.

Jimenez got hurt in an exhibition game against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday. The 24-year-old player was trying to stop Sean Murphy from hitting a home run, but his leap over the fence was fruitless. He ended up leaving the game immediately after, being in visible discomfort.

The absence of Eloy Jimenez will likely be a huge blow to Chicago’s ambitions to take back the AL Central title after almost 15 years. They don’t have much depth behind him in left field, as utility man Leury Garcia is the only player on White Sox’s 40-man roster with majors experience on the position. Their other options like Blake Rutherford and Micker Adolfo still haven’t made their MLB debut.

Jimenez had a strong outing last season, batting .296 with 14 home runs and 41 RBIs. It seemed like his good form could carry over in 2021 as he enjoyed a good run in exhibition games with a .319 batting average and two homers.

The Chicago White Sox solved their right field dilemma on Tuesday, agreeing to a one-year contract with free agent outfielder Adam Eaton.

Eaton, who played for the South Siders from 2014 to 2016 before moving to the Washington Nationals, thus returns to his former team and will be penciled in as the team’s starter in right field heading into the new season.

Eaton’s deal is reportedly worth $7 million and includes a club option valued at $8.5 million for the 2022 season if the Sox want to keep him around.

The Ohio native became a free agent at the conclusion of the season after finishing his final year of arbitration, but it didn’t take long for him to find a home.

Eaton hit .226 with 4 home runs and 17 RBI in 41 games in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. It was a slow season for the former Nationals staple, whose batting average had never dropped below .279 in his other three seasons with the team.

The White Sox are betting that Eaton will return to his 2014-to-2019 form which saw him become one of the most consistent and productive outfielders in the game.

The team is expected to officially announce the Eaton deal over the next couple of days.
