Bayern Munich completed its historic Champions League run on Sunday night at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon, beating Paris Saint-Germain by a 1-0 final score to claim its sixth UCL trophy.

In a matchup that seemed to promise plenty of goals and wide-out, attacking soccer, it ended up being a nervy, low-scoring affair that ended with the Bundesliga champions celebrating in ecstasy after 90 minutes of flat-out battle.

The first half saw both teams trade attacks, with PSG arguably having the best chances to score after Kylian Mbappe and Neymar both missed opportunities to put their team up during the first 45 minutes. Bayern Munich keeper Manuel Neuer was too tough to beat, which kept his team in the game.

In the second half, it took only a quarter of an hour for Bayern Munich to break the deadlock after a Joshua Kimmich cross found winger and former PSG player Kingsley Coman at the back post, who headed the ball past Keylor Navas.

Despite going all-out for a goal in the final half-hour of play, PSG’s star-studded attack simply couldn’t break down Bayern Munich’s defense and Neuer.

After 5 minutes of extra time, the final whistle blew, and Bayern Munich raised its sixth Champions League trophy. It was a monumental achievement, as they became the first-ever team to go undefeated in the competition.

Paris Saint-Germain was left to rue its missed opportunity to raise their first European trophy, but will surely compete for more in the years to come.

After nearly a year of competition, the 2020 Champions League Final’s participants have finally risen their way to the cream of the crop. This year, two of the top European sides in Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich will do battle on Sunday night in Lisbon to determine the top team in Europe this season.

The winners of Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga will square off in a battle that is sure to go down as one of the best CL finals in recent memory, and there is no clear favorite in most people’s eyes.

The attacking duo of Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappe has set Europe on fire over the past three seasons, and they will finally have the chance to bring PSG its first Champions League title.

On the other hand, Europe’s top goalscorer in Robert Lewandowski and a solid all-around cast of veterans and young talent alike will look to bring Bayern’s sixth Champions League trophy back to Bavaria, and its first since 2013.

Most sportsbooks and experts have Bayern as a slight favorite to win Sunday night’s final, but is that what we should expect?

In attack, it’s hard to give either team the edge. PSG has frustrated and blown past defenses all season with Neymar and Mbappe healthy, and it would be a mistake to not pay attention to talents like Angel di Maria and Mauro Icardi who have also been huge for the Parisians in their run to the final.

Bayern Munich, though, has Europe’s top goalscorer in Robert Lewandowski, who has found the net 15 times in 9 Champions League matches this year. A deep wealth of other scorers also stands behind him including Serge Gnabry and Philippe Coutinho.

Where things start to look a little more uneven is in the midfield. Bayern holds the edge here, as the world-class combination and depth of players like the brilliant Thiago, the speedy Alphonso Davies, and the always-reliable Leon Goretzka keeps things steady both in attack and on defense.

Defensively, it’s hard to give either team an edge. The back 4 isn’t the strong suit of neither PSG nor Bayern, as they mostly do their best to keep things solid in the back on the rare occasion that other teams slip in.

Another point in Bayern’s favor is the fact that they have arguably the best keeper on Earth in Thomas Muller, who continues to show his brilliance at the age of 34. Even though Keylor Navas should be back in the net after missing the semi-final match for PSG, Bayern has the clear edge at this position.

With all of these things being considered, Bayern Munich is the likely winner of what should be a thrilling game. As for my personal prediction, I’ll take the Germans by a 2-1 final score.

Bayern Munich continued its perfect run in the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League, storming past an overmatched Olympique Lyon by a 3-0 final score to reach the competition’s final.

Lyon—who had made a Cinderella run to reach the competition’s semi-final after shocking Manchester City in the quarter-finals—simply couldn’t stop Bayern’s strong attack as they bowed out on Wednesday night in Lisbon.

Despite a couple of clear chances missed by Karl Toko Ekambi for Lyon, they couldn’t get much else going against a Bayern side that took an early lead and didn’t look back.

Serge Gnabry knocked in a pair of goals in the 18th and 33rd minutes of the game to give his team a 2-0 lead. Try as Lyon did, they simply couldn’t get out of the early hole that they dug.

Robert Lewandowski’s goal to make it 3-0 in the 88th minute put any question that remained about the final result to rest, propelling the German juggernaut to the competition’s final for the first time since 2013.

Bayern will now face Paris Saint-Germain in the competition’s final on Sunday night. The game will be played at 9 pm European Standard (3 pm Eastern Standard) at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.

After eleven unsuccessful Champions League berths which saw them advance no farther than the quarter-finals of the competition, Paris Saint-Germain finally earned a chance to play for the trophy on try number 12.

After defeating RB Leipzig by a 3-0 final score on Tuesday night in Lisbon, PSG finds itself on the doorstep of capturing the long-awaited title that their fans have waited decades for.

It was all PSG, all the time on Tuesday night as they went up against an RB Leipzig side that had made a miracle run to reach the final 4 of the competition.

After a tense first 10 minutes, PSG broke through after Marquinhos found the net with a header after a brilliant Angel di Maria free-kick found his head to put his team up 1-0.

Just before halftime, di Maria was on the receiving end of a brilliant assist, this time from a Neymar backheel that left him one-on-one against Péter Gulácsi, whom he beat.

That 2-0 lead was never really threatened in the second half of action, especially after the gap was widened to 3-0 with a Juan Bernat goal just 10 minutes after the game got back underway.

PSG will face the winner of Wednesday night’s Bayern Munich-Olympique Lyon semi-final matchup in the competition’s final on Sunday night.

Paris Saint-Germain looked adrift in the Champions League once again in Lisbon on Wednesday night, trailing underdogs Atalanta as extra time started. Hope looked to be running out for the Parisians until they mounted a miraculous comeback to race past their Italian opposition and into the Champions League semi-finals.

Atalanta made a miraculous run in the tournament, and they looked well on their way to the final four of the tournament after Mario Pasalic gave them a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute of the match after beating Keylor Navas with a brilliant curling strike.

PSG tried as they might, but they simply couldn’t find the net despite endless occasions from the likes of Neymar and Mauro Icardi.

That was until extra time began and two of the most unlikely protagonists saved the day for the French side.

Marquinhos scored a goal after a brilliant Neymar run and pass found him in front of the goal at point-blank range right after extra time began.

The Italian club started to feel the pressure and broke down just three minutes later after unlikely hero Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting beat Marco Sportiello, causing euphoria to break out on the PSG bench as they finally advanced to the semis.

PSG’s berth in the semi-finals is their first since 1995 and their second in club history. They will meet the winner of the RB Leipzig-Atletico Madrid match on Thursday.

Real Madrid will be without star forward Gareth Bale for its Friday night Champions League Round fo 16 clash with Manchester City after he was left out of the squad list by manager Zinedine Zidane.

It perhaps shouldn’t come as a surprise that Bale wasn’t included in the squad list considering his lack of playing time after La Liga returned following the COVID-19 postponement.

Bale arguably made his own situation worse by exhibiting strange behavior while on the bench in the stands. The Welshman yawned, covered his eyes with his protective mask, and fashioned fake binoculars out of material at hand at various points during Real Madrid’s final stretch of games.

The 31-year-old forward appeared in only 21 games for Los Blancos this season, accumulating just 2 goals and 2 assists. It was a nightmare season for one of Real Madrid’s highest-paid players, and many think that it’s only a matter of time until he leaves to go elsewhere.

On Friday night in Manchester, Zidane is expected to use either Rodrygo or Vinicius along with Eden Hazard on the wings in place of Bale.

Real Madrid will have to make up a 2-1 aggregate deficit if they want to advance to the quarter-finals of the tournament.

The 2019-20 UEFA Champions League is finally set to wrap up in August, and it looks as if the organization’s plans to host the rest of the tournament in Lisbon, Portugal will have a small asterisk next to it.

While some of the Champions League Round of 16 matchups were able to be completed before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, others were left unfinished after only one draw was played.

UEFA has decided that instead of playing these remaining Round of 16 games in Lisbon like they will with the rest of the matches, they will instead be played at each team’s host stadium.

This means that Manchester City will host Real Madrid, Bayern Munich will host Chelsea, Juventus will host Lyon, and Barcelona will host Napoli in early August before the winning teams travel to Lisbon to join Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Atalanta, and RB Leipzig.

The same rule will be applied to the UEFA Europa League as well, which was left in the same situation as the Champions League.

While the games will be played in teams’ home stadiums, the matches will be held behind closed doors.

So, at least teams will now know that they won’t have to “forfeit” a home game if they were unable to finish their Round of 16 draw in March.

Paris Saint-Germain is set to resume the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League campaign without their all-time record scorer. According to French media outlet RMC Sport, the Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani informed PSG that he doesn’t want to sign a short-term contract extension that would enable him to play in the club’s remaining games in Europe.

Cavani’s contract with PSG is set to expire at the end of the month, and the two sides already agreed to part ways. However, Ligue 1 champions hoped that the 33-year-old will prolong his stay in French capital for few more months after UEFA decided to resume the current Champions League season in August.

This won’t be the case, as Cavani rejected the idea and remains set on leaving Paris as soon as his contract is up. Reportedly, he isn’t alone in this, as Belgian back Thomas Meunier also decided to take the same route. Players like Layvin Kurzawa and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, on the other hand, will ink short time extensions to help the club in upcoming UCL matches.

Edinson Cavani joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2013 from Seria A side Napoli. Since then, he scored 200 goals for the club, which placed him at the top of PSG’s all-time goalscoring list.

After leaving France, Cavani is expected to remain in Europe, with several high-profile clubs being interested in his services. The list of potential destinations includes Inter, Atletico Madrid, and Napoli.

Soccer fans are going to be treated to an exciting two weeks in August, as the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, semi-finals, and Final are set to be held in Lisbon, Portugal.

This will allow the competition to be completed after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the rest of the competition to be postponed in the middle of the Round of 16 back in March.

Portugal, one of the European countries that’s been least affected by the coronavirus pandemic, was seen as a logical choice by UEFA due to its pleasant weather, relatively stable health situation, and its two world-class soccer stadiums within the city’s limits.

The Estadio da Luz, home of Benfica and the Portuguese national team, is set to host the bulk of the matchups including the final, while Sporting Portugal’s Jose Alvalade Stadium is also set to host quarter-final and semi-final matchups.

The fate of the remaining ties of the Round of 16, including matchups between Manchester City and Real Madrid and Bayern Munich and Chelsea, is yet to be determined. The matches could be held in Manchester and Munich, respectively, or they could also take place in Lisbon.

In any case, this summer’s premier soccer event will descend upon Lisbon this August, and it should be a lot of fun to watch.

UEFA reportedly came up with a plan to resume the Champions League and Europa League, two main European club competitions. According to ESPN, both competitions could wrap up as “mini-tournaments” held over two weeks on one location.

The standard format of away and home games present in European club competitions isn’t considered a viable option anymore due to restrictions caused by the coronavirus. This is why UEFA came up with a plan to have a centralized competition, described by BILD as a “World Cup-style” tournament in order to crown a champion. The competitions would resume from round-of-16, with later stages assuming knock-out format.

This year’s UEFA Champions League finale was set to take place in Istanbul, but the city reportedly isn’t in consideration due to restrictions imposed by the Turkish government. Instead, Lisbon, Frankfurt, and Moscow emerged as the main options to host the tournament.

Lisbon is viewed as a favorite among the three cities, as it offers two stadiums and complexes in Benfica’s Estadio da Luz and Sporting CP’s Estadio Jose Alvalade. The stadiums are also just a few miles within each other, giving UEFA more scheduling options.

The Eintracht Frankfurt’s Commerzbank Arena in Germany is also an appealing option for UEFA, due to travel benefits and the stadium’s high-end facilities.

The final decisions about the Champions League and Europa League will most likely be made in late June when all other details should be revealed.
