Paris Saint-Germain looked adrift in the Champions League once again in Lisbon on Wednesday night, trailing underdogs Atalanta as extra time started. Hope looked to be running out for the Parisians until they mounted a miraculous comeback to race past their Italian opposition and into the Champions League semi-finals.

Atalanta made a miraculous run in the tournament, and they looked well on their way to the final four of the tournament after Mario Pasalic gave them a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute of the match after beating Keylor Navas with a brilliant curling strike.

PSG tried as they might, but they simply couldn’t find the net despite endless occasions from the likes of Neymar and Mauro Icardi.

That was until extra time began and two of the most unlikely protagonists saved the day for the French side.

Marquinhos scored a goal after a brilliant Neymar run and pass found him in front of the goal at point-blank range right after extra time began.

The Italian club started to feel the pressure and broke down just three minutes later after unlikely hero Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting beat Marco Sportiello, causing euphoria to break out on the PSG bench as they finally advanced to the semis.

PSG’s berth in the semi-finals is their first since 1995 and their second in club history. They will meet the winner of the RB Leipzig-Atletico Madrid match on Thursday.
