With all the big free agents this summer looking for a team, it is easy to forget that Carmelo Anthony will also be able to explore the market. While it is unclear how many suitors Anthony actually has in the league at this moment, most NBA executives believe he will eventually end up with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Anthony only played 10 games in the NBA’s last season, averaging 13.4 points per game as a member of Houston Rockets, before eventually being traded to Chicago Bulls and waived afterward. The 35-year-old was a free-agent since February, but never actually found a team to play with. Lakers showed interest initially, but after they lost their chance to make the postseason, they cooled off.

According to Ian Begley of SNY, Lakers have now rekindled their interest for Carmelo Anthony, especially as they are trying to build a championship contending roster around All-Stars LeBron James and newly-acquired Anthony Davis. The Davis trade gutted Lakers’ roster, which opens a spot for Anthony, especially if he is willing to play a lesser role. His friendship with James is also believed to have a big influence on this decision.

Begley also reports that Anthony also considered a return to New York Knicks. This is believed to be an option if the Knicks manage to land one or two star players in free agency and construct a competitive roster. Anthony previously indicated that he would want to retire in New York.

Carmelo Anthony returned to his beloved Madison Square Garden in New York, but this time only as a fan. Anthony, who is currently under contract with Chicago Bulls but isn’t expected to play with the organization, came to Garden to see his close friend Dwyane Wade play his final game as a professional in this iconic arena.

“I’ve had some great years in this building. I look forward to coming back and playing in this building some more,” – said Anthony during an in-game interview while attending the match between  New York Knicks and Miami Heat.

Anthony was, of course, asked what will his next move be, considering the fact that he is expected to be waived by the Bulls following the trade deadline and become a free agent.

“At this point, I just want to be happy,” – the 34-year-old explained. “I think I’ve put myself in a good, peaceful mind state right now, [being] able to focus in on what I need to focus in on. And whatever’s going to make me happy, then we’re going to make it happen.”

While he only came as a basketball fan this time around, Carmelo Anthony ended up receiving a big-time ovation from the Knicks’ fans when his face was shown on the jumbotron.

Anthony was a key player for the Knicks for numerous years, but ended up opting to leave the organization in 2017 and joined Oklahoma City Thunder in order to try and win a championship. After a failed season with OKC, he joined the Houston Rockets in the summer but failed to make an impact and ended playing just 10 games there before being removed from the team.

After months of trying, Houston Rockets finally managed to deal Carmelo Anthony. According to ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski, Melo was traded to the Chicago Bulls alongside with cash. However, it is highly likely that he won’t put a Bulls jersey in an official game according to sources and will be released if he clears waivers.

The Rockets have been aggressively seeking a trade for Carmelo Anthony in the past couple of days, hoping to free up a roster spot for Kenneth Faried, who recently became a free agent after agreeing to a contract buyout with the Brooklyn Nets. Still, they didn’t manage to close the deal on time, and had to waive James Nunnally from his 10-day contract in order to make a place for Faried.

While Anthony won’t play for the Bulls, he still wants to find a landing spot and play this season. There is a chance that Chicago might hold on to the 34-year-old until the February 7th trade deadline, but they could only deal him in a one-for-one type of situation.

Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly interested in Carmelo Anthony but are currently unwilling to give up one of their players in order to free up a roster spot for him. Other team that might be looking into the possibility of acquiring Melo are Philadelphia 76ers while Golden State Warriors are also in the mix.

Anthony joined the Rockets in the offseason but ended up playing only 10 games before parting ways with the team. During that stretch, he averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Brooklyn Nets center Kenneth Faried reached a contract buyout with the team on Saturday ahead of joining the Houston Rockets as a free agent before Monday’s ET deadline

The Rockets reportedly plans to add Faried in its lineup immediately since their starting center Clint Capela will be out for several weeks with an injury to his right thumb. The Nets will finalize Faried’s $13.7 million contract by Monday, the deadline date for this trade period.

In Houston, the Rockets are aggressively searching for a trade partner to waiver Carmelo Anthony, the NBA great whose decline in performance has seen him lose his spot in clubs numerous times. Without the Waiver, the Rockets will still have their roster full and no room for Faried.

Considering they want him by Monday as they face the 76ers, Houston must find a way to clear room for him. If a trade for Carmelo is not found, the only option will be to release James Nunnally, the player signed for a trial period of two weeks, five days before his contract expires. Nunnally was signed on January 16th and his contract will expire Jan 25th.

Once he is settled, Faried will hope to get a permanent spot as a center or forward in Houston. He struggled to fit in the Nets team and faces competition from Nene Hilario and Capela in Houston.

After Carmelo Anthony struggled with Oklahoma City Thunder last season and had a failed 10-games experiment with the Houston Rockets this season, it started to look like he will never play in the NBA league again.

But that won’t be the case if Los Angeles Lakers’ star LeBron James can do something about it.

According to a report by Joe Vardon of The Athletic, James believes that Melo still has what it takes to play a significant role in NBA and would like the Lakers to explore the possibility of bringing him to Los Angeles.

While Vardon’s sources said that James wouldn’t request the Lakers to acquire Anthony, he is convinced that this move would benefit the team greatly.

LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony are close friends off the court, entering the league at the same time; James was the No.1 pick in 2003 NBA while Anthony was selected third overall. They expressed interest in playing together several times over the years, and were close of achieving that in 2017 when Anthony was about to leave New York Knicks. There were rumors that he might join James in Cleveland at the time but ended up in Oklahoma City with Russell Westbrook and Paul George.

Despite James’ desire, it remains unclear whether Magic Johnson and the rest of Lakers’ front office would be willing to add Carmelo Anthony. Although Anthony averaged solid numbers in his 10 games with the Rockets, 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, he was such a liability on the defense that the team deemed him unplayable and openly said that his time in Houston is over.

It now remains to be seen whether Lakers or any other NBA team are willing to bet on Anthony once again.

Things aren’t looking good for the Houston Rockets this season, and it seems like the team is going to blame all of their problems on Carmelo Anthony. According to multiple reports from NBA Insiders like Marc Stein and Adrian Worjanowski, the Rockets are seriously thinking about releasing Anthony in the upcoming days.

Carmelo Anthony missed the Rockets’ last two games due to an “illness,” but it is believed that there is another reason behind this. There are several Houston players and members of the coaching staff that think Anthony already played his last minutes as a Rocket.

Despite all of this, the team’s general manager Daryl Morey is still reluctant to confirm the reports about Anthony’s departure and went on to call them “unfair” to the 34-year-old.

One of the reasons I’m here, besides its 10 games in, about, is I think there’s just a lot of unfair-like rumors and everything going around about him,” – said Morey on Sunday. “He’s been great with us. As Coach [Mike D’Antoni] said yesterday, his approach has been great. He’s accepted every role Coach has given him — starting, off the bench, whatever it’s been.

We’re struggling as a team, and it’s my job, it’s Coach’s job to figure this thing out. But from Guy 1 to Guy 15 — and I’ll put myself in there; a lot of this is on me right now — we’re not playing well. We’ve just got to figure it out. We’re evaluating everything.” – he added.

Carmelo Anthony has struggled to gel in with the rest of Houston Rockets team since signing a one-year, $2.4 million deal in August. He is averaging 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this season, but the bigger issue is his defensive performance that has been particularly poor. Rockets are nine points per 100 possessions worse with Melo on the court, and that is something that a championship contender can’t allow themselves.

Either Anthony will step up on the defensive end or he will be out of Houston. Something tells us it will be the second option, but we will have to wait and see.

Carmelo Anthony signing with the Houston Rockets wasn’t a secret. It was something we knew is about to happen for weeks, but the official confirmation came on Monday. Anthony flew to Houston, passed his medical and officially inked a one-year, $2.4 million contract. The team confirmed the news on their social media.

Reportedly, Carmelo Anthony will have a chance to earn a starting spot in the training camp, but it’s still up to Rockets’ coach Mike D’Antoni to determine where Melo could help the team the most. We will see whether Anthony can accept a possible secondary role, something he was struggling with during his time as part of Oklahoma City Thunder.

Now, if you think $2.4 million is too low of a number for a player of Melo’s caliber, don’t worry. After Oklahoma City Thunder traded him to Atlanta Hawks, the 34-year-old was immediately waived while receiving a hefty paycheck. Hawks paid $25.4 million of his 2018-19 salary from the previous contract, and he also accepted a $2.4 million contract buyout.

After an unsuccessful season with OKC, it was evident that Carmelo Anthony doesn’t fit into the Thunder’s future, primarily because of his massive contract. Thunder was facing with close to $300 million parole and taxes, something they couldn’t afford. This is why the team’s general manager Sam Presti began looking for trade options while giving the 10-times All-Star permission to negotiate with other teams.

Melo met with Houston Rockets and Miami Heat during the summer league in Las Vegas but eventually decided to sign with a team that can give him a chance to win his first NBA title.

This might not come as a surprise to many basketball fans, but Carmelo Anthony is leaving Oklahoma City Thunder. Anthony failed to adjust his role in a way Thunder wanted last season, which led to him playing the worst basketball in his career and averaging career low 16.2 points per game. Also, he opted into the final year of his contract, which will push Thunder’s payroll to historic numbers. This is why both sides are looking to end this failed experiment, and OKC already gave permission to other NBA teams to talk with the 34-year-old.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Melo will talk with several teams including Miami Heat and Houston Rockets.

Oklahoma City Thunder and Carmelo Anthony split can be facilitated in several ways. Thunder can find a trade partner who would take on his $27.9 million salary and then waive him. In order to make this happen, Anthony has agreed to waive his no-trade clause. OKC can also use waive-and-stretch provision in his contract and spread his salary over three years. Both scenarios would save Thunder more than $100 million in luxury tax and salary.

The biggest favorites to land Carmelo Anthony when he becomes a free agent are Houston Rockets. Besides the fact that Melo’s friend Chris Paul plays here, the Rockets are in the need of a forward after losing Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute in free agency.

After clashing with Knicks front office in 2017, Anthony agreed to waive his no-trade clause in order to join the OKC. He made a transition to power forward, but never managed to gel with the rest of the roster and experienced long stretches of bad shooting while failing to play a significant role in the Thunder’s short playoff run.

After settling down in Oklahoma City (at least for a year), Carmelo Anthony decided to speak for SiriusXM and reveal other possible trades that were discussed but never materialized. The first one involved him and his current teammate Paul George being joined in Cleveland.

Me and PG have a very close friendship,” Anthony said when asked about George. “Actually, it was funny because me and PG was supposed to be in Cleveland on draft night. We were communicating about that. The deal was actually done and it got called off on draft night, so me and PG stayed connected throughout the course of the season.

Instead of being members of the Cavs, Melo and PG will now try to win it all with Russell Westbrook. Although this is the first time we are hearing about a trade involving both Melo and PG, there was plenty of rumors about Melo joining LeBron James in Cleveland. One of the reasons for why this didn’t happen is the fact that the Cavs didn’t want to part ways with Kevin Love.

Trade to Cleveland wasn’t the only Anthony discussed since he also mentioned that the trade sending him to the Houston Rockets was a “done deal” but also didn’t go through.

At first, a deal was done with Houston early,” Anthony explained. “Then for some reason, whatever happened behind the scenes, it didn’t go through, it didn’t fall through.

Houston was Melo’s preferred destination for a long time, and he was willing to waive his no-trade clause only for the Rockets. Despite mutual desire, the Rockets couldn’t find a way to get the deal done with the New York Knicks. The Rockets wanted to include Ryan Anderson’s 3 –year, $60 million deal and Knicks didn’t want to hear anything about it. Instead, they took Enes Kanter and Doug McDermott from the OKC.
