With all the big free agents this summer looking for a team, it is easy to forget that Carmelo Anthony will also be able to explore the market. While it is unclear how many suitors Anthony actually has in the league at this moment, most NBA executives believe he will eventually end up with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Anthony only played 10 games in the NBA’s last season, averaging 13.4 points per game as a member of Houston Rockets, before eventually being traded to Chicago Bulls and waived afterward. The 35-year-old was a free-agent since February, but never actually found a team to play with. Lakers showed interest initially, but after they lost their chance to make the postseason, they cooled off.

According to Ian Begley of SNY, Lakers have now rekindled their interest for Carmelo Anthony, especially as they are trying to build a championship contending roster around All-Stars LeBron James and newly-acquired Anthony Davis. The Davis trade gutted Lakers’ roster, which opens a spot for Anthony, especially if he is willing to play a lesser role. His friendship with James is also believed to have a big influence on this decision.

Begley also reports that Anthony also considered a return to New York Knicks. This is believed to be an option if the Knicks manage to land one or two star players in free agency and construct a competitive roster. Anthony previously indicated that he would want to retire in New York.
