It appears that Carmelo Anthony finally found his home in the NBA.

The Portland Trail Blazers announced on social media on Sunday that Anthony agreed to a deal that will see him stay with the franchise for one more season. Reportedly, Melo inked a veteran’s minimum contract.

After his struggling stints with Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets, Anthony spent almost a year out of the league before signing with the Trail Blazers last November. Portland initially saw him as a rotational piece but was forced to push Melo into the team’s starting line-up following a series of injuries on the forward position.

Anthony used the opportunity and gave the Blazers solid production during the regular season. The 36-year-old forward finished the campaign with 15.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists on average while also being surprisingly efficient from the three-point line.

Carmelo Anthony, who has 10 All-Star nods to his name, will now have an opportunity to be a contributor for the Blazers once again while also aiming to reach some big career milestones. This includes climbing on NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Melo is currently at No.15 with 26,446 career points but only needs 51 more to pass San Antonio Spurs’ legend Tim Duncan on the 14th spot. He can also get into the Top 10 in 2020/21, needing 868 points to achieve this feat.

After not playing in the NBA for more than a year, Carmelo Anthony made a comeback in November, inking a deal with Portland Trail Blazers. As it turns out, Blazers didn’t come calling, Melo would now be retired.

Anthony recently made an appearance on CJ McCollum’s Pull Up Podcast and spoke about his time away from the league. According to the 35-year-old, he was ready to call it quits if NBA teams continued avoiding him.

“I told my agent ‘Nobody’s calling? You know what? If nothing happens by this date, I’m announcing my retirement. I’m at peace with letting the game go,'” explained Anthony.

Since his disappointing 10-games stint with Houston Rockets at the beginning of 2018/19 season, it seemed that NBA teams didn’t want to get near Anthony despite his glowing resume. It almost looked like the league moved on from him, and that his iso-skills are not desirable in this modern NBA. The fact that he is a defensive liability also didn’t help.

But after the injuries and bad form pressed Portland to get creative, Melo finally was able to step on the NBA court once again.

“I really needed Portland.” he added. “As much as they needed me from a basketball standpoint, I needed Portland for other reasons. I always say god don’t make no mistakes. This came at a pivotal time for me, and I’m taking advantage of it and it shows.”

While Anthony isn’t posting any head-turning numbers, he is proving to be more than a solid starter for the Trail Blazers. He played a total of 50 games in 2019/20 and averages 15.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.

Although Carmelo Anthony scored just six points in Portland Trail Blazers’ 125-112 win over Houston Rockets, that was still enough for the 35-year-old to continue writing his name into NBA history books. With these six points, all of which were scored in the first half, Anthony reached 26,072 career points and moved to the on the all-time scoring list.

Anthony jumped from the 18th spot to No.17 and passed Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett, who has 26,071 career points.

Considering that Anthony is currently averaging 15.8 points per game, there is a big chance that he will continue his climb on the all-time list and get to No.14, where San Antonio Spurs legend Tim Duncan sits with 26,496. In order to move to the top 10 and get ahead of Elvin Hayes, however, Melo needs 1,300 more points.

After sitting out the majority of the past season, and not having a club at the start of 2019/20, Carmelo Anthony signed a deal with Portland Trail Blazers. It turned out to be a move that benefited both sides, as Blazers started winning after a shaky start of the season, while Anthony became a productive NBA player once again.

Anthony is enjoying his time in Portland, and recently said he would like to finish his career there.

“I would love to stay,” said Anthony. “I feel like this is the place for me to end my career. It could have happened earlier, but it didn’t. Now, where I’m at in my life and my career — this is where I want to retire.”

It turns out that the fourth time was a charm for Carmelo Anthony, who finally notched his first win with the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night in Chicago.

The Blazers earned a comfortable 117-94 win over the Bulls at the United Center thanks in large part to a big night from Anthony, who scored 25 points and collected 8 rebounds.

It was easily Anthony’s best performance since debuting with his new team last week. The former Knicks star has averaged 16.0 points and 5.3 rebounds in his first four games with his new team, shooting a poor 39.1% from the field.

Perhaps the best news about Anthony’s Monday performance was his shooting accuracy. The 16-year veteran hit 4 of 7 shots from beyond the arc, finishing the night with a 50% mark from the field.

Blazers star point guard Damian Lillard was impressed with the ten-time All-Star’s performance, stating, ” He had it rolling. Our whole bench, we were just excited to get it going. Him being here has been fun, and we all welcome seeing his bounce-back happen and it’s going to be fun to watch.”

Anthony appears to be finding his feet with his new squad, and he’ll look to turn in another good performance on Wednesday night against the Thunder.

Long-time NBA star Carmelo Anthony made his season debut with the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night in a 115-104 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on the road.

Despite not having played in an NBA game in over a year and not having had time to practice with his new team, Anthony was named a starter in coach Terry Stotts’s lineup.

The ten-time NBA All-Star didn’t have his sharpest night in his Portland debut, showing signs of rust that are largely attributable to his long absence from the game.

Anthony played 24 minutes, scoring 10 points on 4-14 shooting from the field. He did make two of his three attempts from beyond the arc. Anthony collected four rebounds and committed five turnovers without recording any assists.

He did not draw any fouls or attempt any shots from the free-throw line.

Despite his slow night, Anthony sounded positive and upbeat after the game. He said, “It felt great to be back in the flow of the game, be back on the court, be back to where I think I belong at.”

Anthony is expected to start most nights for the 5-10 Blazers, who are looking for a spark to get them out of their slow start to the season. The team’s next game is on Thursday night against Milwaukee.

Carmelo Anthony is finally back in the NBA. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Portland Trail Blazers added Anthony to their roster on Friday, signing him to a non-guaranteed deal.

Anthony hasn’t played in the league since early in the 2018/19 NBA season when he was a member of Houston Rockets.

Wojnarowski reports that Melo will join the Blazers for the team’s upcoming road trip, which kicks off on Saturday. He is expected to get minutes right away, as the team became worryingly thin on the forward position after Zach Collins’ injury.

Blazers have been trying to get Anthony ever since it became clear he would leave New York Knicks, but fell short on several occasions. This time, however, Melo jumped on the opportunity as it was a rare chance for him to get back into the game.

Portland has been struggling this season, currently sitting at the lower level of Western Conference standings with a 4-8 record. They especially had problems with scoring, as Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum account for almost half of the team’s points in a single game.

By plugging in a proven scorer in Carmelo Anthony, Blazers hope they could add another scoring option to their offense and improve their anemic forward core. And while we will have to wait and see how Anthony will fit in Portland, the team’s players are already welcoming the help.

“I believe he can help us,” – Lillard told ESPN’s Rachel Nichols when asked about Melo’s arrival. “Obviously I’d like to see our early-season struggles turn around, and hopefully we can be part of a great bounce-back for Melo as well.”
