Carlos Tevez was once more the man that Boca Juniors could count on when they needed it the most. Despite being in and out of the starting 11 for the better part of the season, Tevez shined in the most important game of the season for Boca and helped the Argentinian giants to capture their 34th national league title.

Boca entered the Saturday’s game against Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata on the second spot on the league standings, with one point behind River Plate. While River was coming from behind in their own game against Atletico Tucuman, Boca seemed like they wouldn’t be able to capitalize on their bitter rivals’ mistake. Then came Tevez.

Tevez scored a beautiful 20-yarder in 72nd minute and sent La Bombonera to eruption. River, on the other hand, couldn’t score a goal for the win over Tucuman and could only watch the title slipping through their hands.

Considering Carlos Tevez is already 36 and that his contract is expiring in June, this might have been a perfect ending to a legendary career. Tevez wore Boca’s jersey on three different stints and brought the club a title each time. He has played a total of 204 games with Boca and scored a total of 73 goals.

Tevez previously also played with Manchester United, Manchester City, and Juventus among other teams. He has 76 appearances for Argentina national team as well.

Argentinian striker Carlos Tevez might finally get a chance to play in Major League Soccer. According to reports from Argentina, Tevez is considering a move to MLS if he doesn’t land a new contract in his native country.

Tevez is in the final year of his contract, and there are strong indications that Boca will let him walk after that. The 35-year-old striker still wants to continue playing soccer and might consider an offer from another Argentina Superliga side Velez Sarsfield.

However, TNT Sports reports that if Tevez isn’t able to secure a deal with Velez, he will come to United States and play in MLS.

Although Carlos Tevez isn’t getting any younger, there is no doubt that he would still be an attractive signing for any MLS team. Tevez made nine appearances in Superliga this season and has scored twice.

Tevez spent the majority of his career in Europe, where he notably played with Manchester United, Manchester City, and Juventus. He won 13 trophies with these three clubs and scored 177 goals combined.

Tevez also represented Argentina 76 times in international games, scoring 16 goals in the process.

The France squad shared the weight of expectation equally on their shoulders at this summer’s World Cup finals. However, the same was not true for Argentina. One man carried that burden alone: Lionel Messi.

Such was the mediocrity of their performances that not even the best soccer player in the world prevented an early exit from the tournament. And one man bore the brunt of the criticism.

Some were deserved: Messi’s penalty in the opening match against Iceland was poor and easily saved. His overall performances failed to meet his own high standards. Instead of inspiring his teammates, Messi found himself dragged down to their levels.

Inevitably, the player’s uneasy relationship with the Argentine public surfaced. Because Messi left his homeland as a youngster and never played professionally for an Argentinean club, he doesn’t have ‘club loyalty’ in the public psyche.

Instead, they see his Barcelona feats from a distance and expect him to achieve the same with the country. It has yet to happen. Carlos Tevez, a former Argentina player, urged Messi not to quit international soccer.

Speaking to ESPN, Tevez told Messi to think of himself, first and foremost. To succeed, he reasoned, the player must be happy. But he quickly added that it wasn’t all down to Messi. The rest of the squad and wider public has a role to play.

“We are wasting a lot of time not having him happy and not being able to give him a hand to achieve that target. I think we are wrong in not being able to help him feel comfortable.

“As a player and as an Argentine I tell him that we need him, that he tries to rest, that he keeps a cool head and that we need him. We need him because he is the soul of Argentina and, as long as he continues playing football, it has to be that way because he is Argentina’s biggest idol and he has to take that responsibility.

“Now [I tell him] to rest, keep a cool head and try to be well, then we need him to take charge and on the pitch.”

Only time will tell if those words are heeded.
