Cam Newton is expected to return to the New England Patriots for the 2021 NFL season. According to multiple reports, Newton and the Pats are currently finalizing a new one-year deal.

Newton is reportedly expected to get a $14 million salary in 2021. He earned $1.05 million last season, signing a veteran’s minimum deal with New England in free agency.

Newton started 15 games for the Patriots in 2020, leading the team to a 7-8 record. He delivered some eye-catching performances and rushed for 592 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The issue, however, was that Newton was wildly inconsistent in the passing game. Despite completing 65.8 percent of his passes, he only managed to throw for 2,657 yards and had more picks than TDs (8-10).

After the season ended, Newton’s future with the organization was unclear, although the 31-year-old player was hopeful that he would remain in New England.

“I’m getting tired of changing, bro,” Newton told the I Am Athlete podcast. “I’m getting to a point in my career where I know way more than I knew last year.”

Before joining the Pats, Cam Newton spent nine years with the Carolina Panthers. He won the NFL MVP Award in 2015 and led the franchise to a Super Bowl 50 appearance.

The Panthers released Newton last offseason after he struggled with injuries and only played two games in 2019.

The pairing of head coach Ron Rivera and quarterback Cam Newton brought the Carolina Panthers its first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history. But could this combination work in Washington?

Well, it appears that Rivera, now the coach of the Washington Football Team, wouldn’t mind giving it a try.

Speaking with reports during a recent video call, Rivera said that his team is looking into all options at the quarterback position and that even someone like Newton could be available.

“We’re exploring all of our options. Nothing is off the table,” said Rivera when asked about Newton. “As we go through this, we’re going to do what we believe is best for us.”

Washington has an exciting squad that managed to make it to the playoffs this season, Rivera’s first at the helm. However, the organization is facing a lot of uncertainty at the QB position.

While veteran Alex Smith had a great return to action after recovering from a career-threatening injury, it is unclear whether he is willing to play anymore. The other two QBs on Washington’s roster, Kyle Allen and Taylor Heinicke, are both set to become free agents in March and are not exactly considered starting-level players.

Cam Newton seems like an upgrade compared to the bunch, but his reputation isn’t what it used to be.

After struggling with injuries in recent seasons, he has been relatively healthy in 2020 while playing for the New England Patriots. But Newton failed to accompany this with productivity, struggling mightily in the passing game.

Newton finished the season with only 2,657 passing yards and eight touchdowns while throwing for 10 interceptions. The Pats were 7-8 with him as a starter.

After a disappointing 2020 campaign with the New England Patriots, quarterback Cam Newton is well aware that he’ll have a hard time getting a starting job next season. But despite this, he isn’t ready to accept the backup role just yet.

Speaking on sports radio WEEI on Monday, Newton was at one point asked whether he would be willing to be a second-string in 2021.

“Honestly, it’s too early to tell,” responded Newton. “That’s as honest as I can be.”

Newton explained that he “absolutely” has the talent to be a starter but acknowledged that he didn’t show much this past season.

“I just really need some time for myself to really reevaluate this whole situation,” he added.

After sitting out most of 2019 with a foot injury and being released by the Carolina Panthers at the end of the season, Newton accepted the league’s minimum to play with the Patriots. The 31-year-old star hoped that a good run might help him rebuild his reputation and get him a long term deal in 2021.

However, Newton struggled for the better part of the year and finished the season with only 2,657 passing yards and eight passing touchdowns while throwing 10 interceptions. He did perform better in the running game, managing to rush for 592 yards and 12 TDs, but this didn’t help prevent a 6-8 record as a starter.

Newton might not be open to being a backup, but that will be his reality if he doesn’t manage to secure a stay in New England. There are not many open starting jobs in the league at the moment, and the teams that do have an opening would rather take a shot with a young signal-caller than play an injury-prone veteran.

Things are not looking good for New England Patriots at this point. The Pats suffered another loss on Sunday, getting beaten 24-21 by Buffalo Bills, and are now riding a four-game losing streak.

Both New England and Buffalo entered the contest with a point to prove, considering their disappointing performances in the past several weeks. But the game itself didn’t offer much excitement until the fourth quarter.

With both teams standing at 14, Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen put together a quick drive at the beginning of the final period and walked into the endzone to give his team a lead.

It didn’t take long for Pats to respond in the same way. QB Cam Newton led New Englands’ offense 72 yards down the field and also got the walk-in TD to tie the game.

On the following possession, Bills had to settle for a field goal, giving New England enough time to execute a game-winning TD drive or set up a game-tying field goal. And they almost did.

With 0:37 remaining on the clock, Pats had a 2nd&10 on Buffalo’s 20 and at least a close FG attempt in the bag. Newton saw an opportunity to buy some more yards with his legs and maybe get a win, so he naturally went for it.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, Bill’s defensive tackle Justin Zimmer followed the play and managed to kick the ball from Newton’s hands from behind. Safety Dean Marlowe recovered the fumble and secured an important win for his team.

With this loss, the New England Patriots are now third in AFC East with a 2-5 record. Bills are first with 6-2.

We already knew that the New England Patriots got themselves a bargain when they signed 2015’s NFL MVP Cam Newton last week. However, it turns out that Pats got an even better deal than everyone assumed.

NFL Network’s insider Ian Rapoport recently shared details of Newton’s one-year contract with New England, and it’s safe to say that the organization took minimum risk. According to Rapoport, the 31-year-old signal-caller will receive a yearly salary of $1.05 million, with only $550K guaranteed. For comparison, Newton had a base salary of $16.2 million in 2019 with Carolina Panthers.

However, if Newton manages to stay healthy and productive, he can significantly up his earnings. The contract includes $700,000 in roster bonuses, as well as $5.75 million in incentives, bringing up his potential salary to $7.5 million.

Despite the numbers, signing with Patriots might turn to be a career move for Cam Newton. He will work with arguably the best football coach in history and will enter the organization that puts winning above everything else. New England is also the only team at the moment where Newton can realistically start in Week 1, which is a must for him if he wants to bounce back from injury-riddled two past seasons.

Quarterback Cam Newton’s time with Carolina Panthers has come to an end. Panthers announced on Tuesday that they have allowed Newton to seek a trade that would bring to an end his nine-year stint with the organization.

The news was confirmed by Panthers’ general manager Marty Hurney, who revealed that this was the result of a meeting he had with Newton and his camp.

“One of the distinct pleasures of my career was selecting Cam with the first pick in the 2011 draft,” said Hurney. “Every year difficult decisions are made and they are never easy. We have been working with Cam and his agent to find the best fit for him moving forward and he will always be a Carolina Panther in our hearts.”

Newton, who is recovering from a foot injury that limited him to just two games in 2019, offered a different side of the story. The 30-year-old went on social media shortly after the news broke, and said that he is “forced” into leaving the franchise.

“Stop with the word play. I never asked for it,” Newton wrote on Instagram. “There is no dodging this one. I love the Panthers to death and will always love you guys. Please do not try and play me or manipulate the narrative and act like I wanted this. You forced me into this. Love”

Following Carolina’s decision to move on from Newton, the team is now expected to pursue one of the quarterbacks available on the free-agent market. According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, Panthers will be especially aggressive trying to land former New Orleans Saints’ QB Teddy Bridgewater.  The team also has second-year QB Will Grier and last year’s starter Kyle Allen on the roster.

Cam Newton will leave Carolina as the most accomplished quarterback in the franchise’s history. During his nine-year run with Panthers, Newton led the team to a Super Bowl appearance in 2015 while winning MVP honors in the same season. He also has three Pro Bowl appearances.

Newton holds numerous Panthers’ franchise records, including most career completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns.

When Carolina Panther’s Cam Newton went down with a foot injury in mid-September, it was expected he will miss a couple of weeks while recovering. But seven weeks later, Newton is still sidelined, and reportedly he isn’t even close to returning to the field.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Friday that Newton’s recovery isn’t going as expected and that his foot isn’t getting better despite the 30-year-old being in limited activity and not playing football. According to Rapoport, Newton will now visit renowned foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson in order to try and see why he isn’t recovering.

After missing two games last season with a shoulder injury, Cam Newton recovered in time to start the 2019 season. However, he struggled in Week 1 and 2, completing 56.2 percent of his passes for 572 and no touchdowns. Newton ended up sitting out the Week 3 games, and it was later revealed that he has been dealing with a foot injury since training camp and that he was diagnosed with Lisfranc fracture.

After Newton went down, second-year QB Kyle Allen took over the starting job. Allen was off to a great start, winning the first four games, and even sparking a debate that he should be Carolina’s quarterback moving forward regardless of Newton’s recovery.

Allen led the Panthers to 4-1 record in his first five starts, throwing for 1,059 yards, seven TDs, and three interceptions.

Carolina Panthers’ Cam Newton might be joining the long list of veteran quarterbacks who won’t be on the field for Week 3. Panthers confirmed on Tuesday that Newton aggravated the left foot injury, with NFL network reporting that this could cause him to miss the Sunday’s game against Arizona Cardinals.

Newton, who suffered the initial injury in the preseason, felt his foot was “sore” during the Week 2 loss against Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The issue made him miss Tuesday and Wednesday’s practices while he is reportedly still in the walking boot.

Panthers, however, aren’t willing to reveal much detail at the moment. The team’s general manager Marty Hurney told The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue that there is currently no timetable for the 30-year-old signal-caller and that his status is day-to-day.

After missing the last two games of 2018 with a shoulder injury, Cam Newton looked quite rusty entering this season. In the first two games, he completed just 55.7 percent of his passes while throwing for 563 yards. The alarming thing, however, was that he failed to score a single touchdown and has negative two yards rushing.

If Newton doesn’t recover in time, Panthers, who are currently 0-2, will probably roll with second-year QB Kyle Allen on Sunday. Allen played two games in his rookie season and managed to complete 64.5 percent of his passes for 266 yards and two TDs.

Carolina Panthers might have quarterback Cam Newton ready for the season opener after all. Newton was recently diagnosed with a mid-foot sprain in his left foot, but according to general manager Marty Hurney, the team is “cautiously optimistic” he will recover by Week 1.

Newton suffered the injury in Thursday’s preseason game against New England Patriots and was later seen with a walking boot. Still, the x-rays on his foot showed that the injury isn’t as significant as Carolina feared and that the 30-year-old shouldn’t be sidelined for a long period.

“It’s really hard to put a timeframe because it depends how he responds each day,” – said Hurney. “But as I said, we feel this has got a chance to come around quick enough where he’ll be ready to play Week 1. We’ll see how it goes.”

The game against the Pats was Cam Newton’s first preseason appearances as he spent the first part of the year recovering from shoulder surgery. Newton had issues with his throwing should for the better part of 2018, but decided to play through pain. He was eventually sidelined after Week 14 when Panthers lost chances to get into playoffs.

Newton finished 2018 by completing career-high 67.5 percent of his passes while throwing for 3,395 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also rushed for 488 yards and four TDs.

It seems like Carolina Panthers could get their star quarterback Cam Newton back earlier than expected. Newton, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder in January, recently said that he is pleased with the rehab process and that he thinks he could start throwing the football in time for the training camp.

“I’m feeling great now,” – Newton told ESPN in an interview. “I feel like I do have full strength right now. But me telling the doctor, that is different than, you know, whatever the clearance process may be.”

Newton entered the 2018 season in a great fashion and led the Panthers to a 6-2 record before starting to struggle with his shoulder. The team went on a seven-game losing streak after that, and the 2015 NFL MVP eventually was forced to sit out the final two games of the season due to injury.

While Newton isn’t sure when he will be cleared to play football again, he intends to strictly follow the rehab plan to be as ready as he can be for that moment.

“Rehab is going unbelievable, especially for me during a time now, a lot of uncertainty,” – he added. “For me, the human side of me is uncertain as well. But with the support cast from RV, the head trainer and other people that have been working with me hands on daily, I have no doubt I’ll be ready to rock and roll when they expect me to be back.”

Newton ended the 2018 NFL season by completing 67.9 percent of his passes for 3,395 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also rushed 488 yards and four touchdowns.
