Trae Young suffered a concussion during the Atlanta Hawks’ 116-95 defeat to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday, it was later confirmed. There is currently no timeline detailing his possible return date.

Young left the Cavs’ game with 8:43 remaining in the fourth quarter after he took a hit to the face when charged by the Cavaliers’ Isaac Okoro, with Okoro’s elbow making contact with Young’s face. Although the Hawks’ guard was able to remain on the court for a few minutes, he ultimately departed, leaving for the locker room and not returning to the court of play.

Prior to his departure, Young scored 15 points. He is averaging 26.9 points per game this season and ranks second in the NBA with 10.8 assists per game. The Hawks will be hoping for Young’s prompt return as they attempt to keep their challenge for a playoff spot alive.

The Atlanta Hawks are in the midst of another disappointing season and are expected to be sellers at the NBA trade deadline. The player they are reportedly open to moving is All-Star point guard Dejounte Murray, who is already attracting interest from the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania recently discussed the Lakers’ trade targets and mentioned Murray as a player of interest. According to Charania, Murray represents an alternative for the LA team if their pursuit of Chicago Bulls’ Zach LaVine doesn’t come to fruition.

The one issue for the Lakers is that they lack draft assets to present the Hawks with a credible offer that doesn’t include standout shooting guard Austin Reaves.

On the other hand, Ian Begley of SNY reports that Murray is a target for the Knicks. The New York team already tried to get Murray before the San Antonio Spurs sent him to Atlanta during the 2022 offseason. They still have interest in the 27-year-old player, viewing him as an ideal fit alongside their guard Jalen Brunson.

If the Knicks decide to make a run for Murray, they will have no trouble matching the Hawks’ asking price. The Knicks have a surplus of draft picks they gained in previous trades while also being able to sweeten the offer with several young players.

Murray is averaging 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game this season. The Hawks currently find themselves at No. 11 in the Eastern Conference with a 12-17 record.

The Atlanta Hawks have made a decision to move on from their head coach Nate McMillan. The news was confirmed by the team in a statement shared by general manager Landry Fields.

McMillan leaves the Hawks at No. 8 in Eastern Conference with a 29-30 record and 3.5 games behind the New York Knicks at No.6. Assistant Joe Prunty will serve as the interim head coach while the franchise searches for McMillan’s replacement.

“Decisions like these, especially in-season, are always extremely difficult, but we believe it’s in the best interest of our team to move forward with another voice leading the way,” Fields said in a statement.

According to Wojnarowski, the Hawks intend to cast a wide net during their head coaching search. They see the former Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder as their top target but are also expected to interview the Milwaukee Bucks assistant Charles Lee and the Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson.

Nate McMillan initially joined the Hawks as an assistant on Lloyd Pierce’s staff ahead of the 2020-21 season. Pierce ended up being fired after starting the campaign 14–20, with McMillan taking over the team on an interim basis. McMillan turned around the Hawks’ season, going 27-11 down the stretch and making the Eastern Conference Finals.

McMillan received the full-time job after the unexpected run but failed to replicate the success he had as an interim. The team particularly struggled this season, losing eight of their 13 games leading into the All-Star break. McMillan’s job security was also jeopardized by the reported strained relationship between him and star guard Trae Young.

The Atlanta Hawks will be a few players light ahead of their clash with the Denver Nuggets on Friday night after receiving news that starting forwards De’Andre Hunter and John Collins will be unavailable through injury.

Both players were injured during Atlanta’s 125-108 victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday and are expected to be absent for a string of games.

Hunter is expected to miss a week of action after picking up a right flexor hip strain, as revealed by an MRI. He is expected to be reevaluated in a week’s time, meaning that he will miss at least the next four games. This news comes after the forward already missed two months last season with a wrist injury.

Collins underwent an MRI as well which revealed that he suffered a left ankle sprain in addition to some swelling. The six-year veteran will sit out for at least two weeks.

Both players have proven to be a core component of the Hawks’ lineup this season. While Collins is averaging 12.3 points per game, Hunter averaging 14.9 points in 21 games this season.

The Atlanta Hawks reportedly pulled off a blockbuster trade with the San Antonio Spurs that saw them landing All-Star guard Dejounte Murray. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Spurs will get three first-rounders and forward Danilo Gallinari in exchange.

The first-round picks are 2023 via Charlotte Hornets and unprotected 2025 and 2027 selections from the Hawks. San Antonio will also have an option to swap picks in 2026.

Murray, who was a late first-round selection by the Spurs in 2016, is coming off a career year that saw him make an NBA All-Star team, NBA All-Defensive Second Team, and lead the league in steals. He finished the 2021-22 NBA season, averaging 21.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per game. All were career-high for the 25-year-old.

By acquiring Dejounte Murray, the Hawks are sending a message that they are in win-now mode. Despite mortgaging their future, the trade gives them one of the most exciting backcourts in the league in Murray and All-Star point guard Trae Young and increases their chances to contend in a loaded Eastern Conference.

On the other hand, the Spurs continue to tear down their roster while stockpiling draft picks. They traded away starting guard Derrick White to the Boston Celtics in February in exchange for a 2022 first-round pick.

The Atlanta Hawks’ shooting guard Bogdan Bogdanovic had surgery to deal with a lingering knee injury. The news was confirmed by the Hawks in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Bogdanovic struggled with knee issues throughout the 2022-23 and was sidelined for 19 games in the regular season. The 29-year-old Serbian also missed time in the playoffs, being ruled out for the deciding Game 5 of the first-round series against the Miami Heat.

According to the Hawks, Bogdanovic “will rehabilitate over the offseason” and is expected to make a “full recovery” in time for the 2022-23 season.

It is unclear whether Bogdanovic actually starts the new season with the Hawks. After a disappointing season, Atlanta is expected to shake things up a bit, and Bogdanovic has been mentioned as one of the players they are willing to include in potential deals.

Bogdan Bogdanovic has had a good 2021-22 campaign with the Hawks on paper, considering he averaged 15.1 points, 3.1 assists, and career-high 4.0 rebounds per game. However, it looks like a disappointment compared to his first year in Atlanta. Bogdanovic had stretches in which he struggled to shoot the ball and was inconsistent from beyond the three-point arc. He shot 36.8 percent on three-pointers this season compared to 43.8 percent in the season before.

The New York Knicks are getting some wing help as they try to bounce back from a disappointing first half of the 2021-22 NBA season. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Knicks have made a trade with the Atlanta Hawks to acquire forward Cam Reddish.

Besides Reddish, the Knicks are also getting veteran Solomon Hill and a 2025 second-round pick via Brooklyn Nets as part of the deal. The Hawks, on the other hand, will receive Kevin Knox and a 2022 first-rounder pick via the Charlotte Hornets in exchange.

Reddish, the 10th overall pick in the 2019 draft, was in the midst of a productive year with Atlanta that saw him average career-high in points (11.9) and shooting career-bests 37.9 percent from the three-point line and 40.2 percent from the floor. But this didn’t stop the Hawks from shopping around in recent weeks. According to reports, before they pulled the trigger on the trade with the Knicks, the Hawks also had talks with the Indiana Pacers and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The reason why Atlanta opted to move from Reddish might have something to do with their envious deep at the wing positions that were preventing the Duke product from carving an impactful role on the team. But the more significant issue was reportedly his contract. Reddish will become eligible for an extension after the 2021-22 season and is expected to command much more money than the Hawks can or are willing to offer.

Instead of having an underused player that might have high demands, the Hawks opted to take the first-rounder and a talented player in Knox who still didn’t show his true potential. It wouldn’t be surprising if neither remains in Atlanta for too long, as many believe the team is hoarding assets to acquire a player that can have a bigger impact.

On the other hand, the Knicks get a talented player that should immediately improve their team. They are also in the position to offer Reddish the extension he wants in the summer if they like what they see.

The Atlanta Hawks view Clint Capela as part of their long-term plans and have made that clear to the 27-year-old big-man by adding couple more years to his contract.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski , the two sides agreed to a two-year, $46 million extension on Tuesday. The agreement locks Capela under contract through the 2024-25 season, considering he had two years left on the five-year, $90 million extension he inked with Houston Rockets in 2018.

The new deal probably represents a reward for Capela’s impressive performances during the 2020-21 season. He finished the regular season averaging 15.2 points per game while leading the league in rebounds with 14.4. Capela also provided a big boost on the other side of the ball, anchoring an improved Atlanta’s defense and contributing with career-high 2.0 blocks per game.

Clint Capela started his professional career in Europe, playing two years with the French side Élan Chalon between 2012 and 2014. He came to NBA in 2014, when the Houston Rockets drafted him with the 25th overall pick in that year’s draft. Capela went on to play six seasons in Houston, serving as the team’s starting center for the better part of the stint.

Capela landed in Atlanta in early 2020 as part of a four-team, 12-player trade that sent Robert Covington and Jordan Bell to the Rockets.

The Philadelphia 76ers still can’t find a way to complete “The Process.” Despite making significant front office and coaching changes in the offseason, the 76ers were once again handed an unexpected early playoff exit.

This time, the Sixers were eliminated in the conference semifinals after suffering a shocking 103-96 to young and playoff inexperienced Atlanta Hawks team on Sunday night in a home Game 7.

Despite playing inconsistently during the series and blowing significant leads, Philly entered the pivotal game as an overwhelming favorite. And they played the part early on, entering the second quarter with a 28-25 advantage, before going through another meltdown.

Like so many times in the series, the Hawks crawled their way back and found a way to get the better out of their opponent. After erasing Philadelphia’s advantage early in the second period, Atlanta took control of the game and never relinquished it. The 76ers made few runs to get back in the driving seat, but their offensive inefficiency did not allow them to come close enough.

The Hawks were led by Kevin Huerter, who had a career-high with 27 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Philly managed to keep Atlanta’s star guard Trae Young in check, limiting him to 5-23 shooting, but he still managed to score 21 points to go with his 10 assists.

Joel Embiid had a monster outing for the 76ers, managing 31 points and 11 boards despite playing on a meniscus tear. But that wasn’t enough as Philadelphia’s All-Star guard Ben Simmons had another disappointing night offensively. Simmons only had five points, making it the fourth game in the series that he wasn’t in double digits scoring.

The Atlanta Hawks are now headed to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they will face the Milwaukee Bucks. It’s an amazing feat for a Hawks team that opened the season with a 14-20 record and hasn’t been in the playoffs for the past three years.

Philadelphia, on the other hand, will have to make some tough decisions in the offseason if they don’t want to continue finishing their season early.
