Although everyone expected a busy NFL trade deadline day on Tuesday, most teams decided to stay put. One major trade did take place, however, and unsurprisingly, it involved Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Rams.

Dolphins confirmed on Tuesday that they have acquired veteran cornerback Aqib Talib and a draft pick from Rams in exchange for a draft pick. According to ESPN, the Dolphins received a fourth-round pick alongside Talib, while sending a seventh-rounder in exchange.

From Rams’ standpoint, this was a salary dump move as they looked to clear out $4.2 million still left on Talib’s deal. On the other hand, rebuilding Dolphins wanted to make use of their salary cap space in order to acquire more draft picks. Miami now has 14 draft picks in 2020 alone, including three first-round picks and two second-rounders.

Aqib Talib, who joined the Rams in 2018, played five games in 2019, totaling two passes defended and 14 tackles. He was placed on injured reserve in early October following a rib injury.

While Talib is eligible to return from IR in Week 15, there is a big possibility that he never plays in Dolphins’ jersey. He is set to become a restricted free agent in March, and Miami so far didn’t show much desire to keep veterans around.

Los Angeles Rams’ Pro Bowl cornerback Aqib Talib hasn’t played football since Week 3, but it looks like he could be ready to help his team on Sunday against Detroit Lions. Talib, who underwent ankle surgery in September, was taken off the injured reserve list early this week and already did one practice on Wednesday.

“He did a good job,” – said Rams’ coach Sean McVay. “I think he got more and more comfortable as the practice progressed, which was a positive thing.“

Although he expects Talib to play in the Lions’ game, McVay isn’t sure about the workload the 32-year-old will have.

“[That] is something that we’re going to continue to evaluate based on the way that his ankle responds,” – he added.

Aqib Talib came to Los Angeles this offseason when the Rams traded a fifth-round pick to Denver Broncos to get him. In three games Talib played in 2018, he had nine tackles, two pass deflections, and one forced fumble.

During his time in NFL, Talib was named five consecutive times to Pro Bow, from 2013 to 2017, and has one First-team All-Pro honors. He is also a Super Bowl champion, lifting the prestigious trophy with Denver Broncos in 2015.

After Los Angeles Rams’ All-Pro cornerback Aqib Talib underwent surgery on his ankle on Thursday, it was believed that the 32-year-old is out for the season. But it turns out that things look a lot better than they seemed at first, and Talib might actually play again in 2018.

Rams’ coach Sean McVay told reporters that Talib’s injury is not a season-ending one and that the team believes he will recover in time to play a couple of games late in the regular season.

“We’re very encouraged,” – said McVay. “And I know Aqib feels that way and we’re looking forward to getting him back. I don’t know exactly what that date would be but I know that the anticipation is to get him back.“

Aqib Talib managed to contribute with two pass deflections and a forced fumble for the Rams this season before suffering an ankle injury in Week 3 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Talib, who is currently on the injured reserve list, will be eligible to come back in Week 12.
