After Los Angeles Rams’ All-Pro cornerback Aqib Talib underwent surgery on his ankle on Thursday, it was believed that the 32-year-old is out for the season. But it turns out that things look a lot better than they seemed at first, and Talib might actually play again in 2018.

Rams’ coach Sean McVay told reporters that Talib’s injury is not a season-ending one and that the team believes he will recover in time to play a couple of games late in the regular season.

We’re very encouraged,” – said McVay. “And I know Aqib feels that way and we’re looking forward to getting him back. I don’t know exactly what that date would be but I know that the anticipation is to get him back.

Aqib Talib managed to contribute with two pass deflections and a forced fumble for the Rams this season before suffering an ankle injury in Week 3 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Talib, who is currently on the injured reserve list, will be eligible to come back in Week 12.

Los Angeles Rams acquired Aqib Talib in March, sending a fifth-round pick to Denver Broncos in exchange. Besides the Broncos, with whom he won a Super Bowl for season 2015, Talib also played for Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots. His career achievements include five Pro Bowl appearances, one First-Team All-Pro selection and one Second-Team All-Pro selection.
