The reigning NBA champions Golden State Warriors will be without veteran forward Andre Iguodala for the final stretch of the 2022-23 season. The team announced on Wednesday that Iguodala is dealing with a fractured left wrist and will have to undergo surgery.

Igoudala’s surgery is slated for next week, and the Warriors expect to have a clearer timeline for his return after that.

Iguodala suffered the injury in the third quarter of a 123-112 win over the Phoenix Suns on Monday. He made a contested basket before coming down hard on the floor and landing on his wrist. The 39-year-old managed to make a free throw but then exited the game and didn’t return afterward.

After spending two seasons with the Miami Heat, Andre Iguodala returned to the Warriors ahead of the 2021-22 campaign and helped the franchise win another NBA title. Igoudala then re-signed with a franchise on a one-year deal, saying 2022-23 would be his last season as a pro.

Iguodala didn’t manage to make a big contribution to the Warriors so far, struggling with injuries that limited him to just eight games on the floor. It remains to be seen if he will manage to add to that tally or if the free-throw against Phoenix will be the last of Iguodala as an NBA player.

Veteran forward Andre Iguodala rejoined the Golden State Warriors ahead of the 2021-22 NBA season for what many believe will be his final year in the league. But even if Iguodala ends up retiring next summer, he might still have a place on the team, albeit in a different role.

Speaking with reporters about Iguodala, the Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr said that the veteran “can do whatever he wants” in retirement and will be good at it. He then jokingly bounced an intriguing idea.

“He’s taking over Mike Brown’s spot [head assistant ],” Kerr added jokingly. “Yeah, right next to me. I haven’t told Mike yet. I haven’t told Andre either.”

Despite saying it as a joke, it really wouldn’t be surprising if Kerr actually brings Iguodala to his coaching staff. It might not be as a head assistant at first, but the NBA Finals MVP from 2015 certainly has all the making of a successful coach at the highest level. He has been a silent leader in the Warriors locker room for years while never shying away from providing mentorship to younger players.

Iguodala spent the previous two years with the Miami Heat. After the Heat declined to pick up his team option for 2021-22, the 37-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Warriors in August. He played 23.5 minutes on average in the first two games of the season, averaging eight points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and one block per contest.

The 2019/20 NBA season is already halfway through, but Andre Iguodala is nowhere to be seen on the basketball courts. And it seems Iguodala would like to keep it that way if Memphis Grizzlies don’t trade him to a team he prefers.

According to The Athletic’s David Aldridge, Igoudala handed the Grizzlies a list of teams to which he would like to go. In case that Memphis goes against his wishes and trades him somewhere else, the 36-year-old veteran is ready to sit out the entire season.

After he was sent by Golden State Warriors to Memphis in the offseason, Andre Igoudala and Grizzlies agreed that the veteran would remain away from the team until the two sides come up with the best way to move forward. Grizzlies hoped that they would manage to get a team trade for him while Iguodala was looking towards contract buyout, which would enable him to get to freely pick a team he will play for.

However, Grizzlies still haven’t managed to get the offer they are moved by and they would like to get a first-round pick for the player. However, according to reports, the only solid proposal they received was from Dallas Mavericks, who offered Courtney Lee’s expiring deal and a second-rounder via Warriors. It’s unclear whether Iguodala would be willing to go to Mavs if Memphis accepts this deal.

The list of Iguodala’s suitors also includes Los Angeles Lakers, LA Clippers, and Houston Rockets. Out of these three teams, Clippers seem like the only team that has assets to pull off a trade.

One month in the new NBA season, Andre Iguodala is still a member of Memphis Grizzlies, even if that’s only on paper. And it looks like it will stay that way until someone gives up a first-round pick for him.

When Golden State Warriors dealt Iguodala to Grizzlies in a salary cut move, the majority of the league expected that the veteran forward will swiftly agree to a buyout and join a contender. That didn’t happen just yet, despite the two sides agreeing that the 35-year-old will remain away from the team until his status is resolved.

During his appearance on NBA Countdown, ESPN’s insider Adrian Wojnarowski said that Memphis won’t buy out Iguodala at all, and want interested parties like Los Angeles Lakers, LA Clippers and Houston Rockets to trade for him. The Grizzlies’ starting price is a first-rounder, and they are not willing to budge from that.

The big issue for most teams represents Andre Iguodala’s $17.2 million salary this season. Most championship contenders would have to give away the majority of their depth to facilitate this move, which doesn’t seem likely. Also, teams like Lakers and Clippers are lacking the draft assets to pull off such a move, which is why they were hopeful Iguodala will be available for free.

Iguodala averaged 5.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game last season, but he showed up in playoffs where he put up 9.8 points per game.

In an unexpected turn of events, the Golden State Warriors sent Andre Iguodala to Memphis Grizzlies in a salary dump move which helped them land D’Angelo Russell.  No one, however, expected that Iguodala would spend significant time with the Grizzlies as the franchise is currently in the rebuilding phase.

The opinion around the league was that Memphis will give the three-time NBA champion and 2015 NBA Finals MVP a contract buyout which will enable him to sign with a title contender. The only problem here is that Grizzlies seem to have a different idea.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Grizzlies are refusing to engage into buyout talks with Iguodala and expect him to report to the training camp.

There is a possibility that Memphis Grizzlies want to see whether they can extract some value for Andre Iguodala instead of just letting him walk. On the other hand, they might see his experience and leadership skills as an important addition to their young roster and hope Iguodala could take the role of a mentor.

Iguodala probably isn’t happy with this outcome, however. He is entering the final years of his NBA career and would definitely want to finish them competing for titles rather than being at the bottom of the Western Conference. He is already attracting interest from several teams, with Los Angeles Lakers emerging as the favorites for his signature if buyout with Memphis ends up taking place.

Golden State Warriors sent forward Andre Iguodala to Memphis Grizzlies on Monday as part of the sign-and-trade deal that helped them land D’Angelo Russell. Iguodala, however, might not even get to put on a Grizzlies jersey.

According to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, Iguodala plans to reach a buyout agreement with the Grizzlies and then sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“He has basically — according to sources — informed everybody he’s going to work out a buyout and then go to the Lakers,” according to Smith. “So Andre Iguodala is planning on joining the Lakers from what we’re being told. I don’t know how true that is, whether or not it is going to definitively happen. But that is the plan at this particular moment in time.”

The buyout from the Memphis makes sense for Iguodala, as he wants to join another championship contender rather than playing for a lottery team with the Grizzlies. He currently has a one year and $17.2 million left on his deal, so he will probably have to give up some of the money to get free.

Lakers’ link for Andre Iguodala makes sense as the franchise is expected to be one of the favorites for NBA title next season especially if they manage to get Kawhi Leonard to join them. Also, Lakers’ general manager Rob Pelinka was Iguodala’s agent, so their reunion might be on the books.

Iguodala is coming off a weak season for him, as he managed to average career-low 5.7 points per game to go with 3.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists. His production increased in the playoffs, however, where he averaged 9.8 points per game.

Don’t expect to see Golden State Warriors’ forward Andre Iguodala on NBA courts for much longer. Iguodala, who is currently playing his 14th season in the league, is already thinking about his retirement from basketball and it might happen in the next three years.

The 34-year-old, who won the NBA Finals MVP award in 2015, recently had a chat with NBC Sports Bay Area where he laid down the plans for the closing years of his career.

I’m going to be done soon,” – said Iguodala. “I could probably play a legit five more years, but I’ll probably max out at three more after this year – maybe three more.”

This decision, however, will mostly depend on whether the Warriors manage to win another title this year.

But if I’m not here, that will weigh heavily on what I will do. I possibly have another year here – if we win. That’s it. I know that. I’m fine with it.” – he added.

Andre Iguodala entered the league in 2004 when he was selected 9th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers. After spending eight years in Philadelphia, during which he received one All-Star selection, Iguodala was traded to the Denver Nuggets in 2012.

In 2013, after becoming a free agent, Iguodala agreed to a contract with the Golden State Warriors and went on to become a valuable factor in the team’s route to three NBA titles in four years.

This season, Andre Iguodala is playing below expectations like the entire Warriors team and averages only 4.5 points per game.

Things don’t look good for the Golden State Warriors ahead of Western Conference Finals Game 4 against the Houston Rockets. According to the press release made by the Warriors on Monday, their forward Andre Iguodala is doubtful for Tuesday night’s game against the Rockets with shooting guard Patrick McCaw being ruled out of the game.

Andre Iguodala suffered the injury late in Game 3 when he banged knees with James Harden. Because of the injury, the 34-year-old didn’t participate in Monday’s practice and the Warriors’ team thinks that the injury got worse since Sunday.

While Patrick McCaw’s absence from the game might not be so noticeable, in case that Iguodala can’t play in Game 4 that could really be problematic for Golden State Warriors. He has been averaging 8.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists in the first three game of the Western Conference Finals but his impact is much bigger than his box score, considering all the small things he does for the Warriors.

Andre Iguodala joined the Golden State Warriors in 2013 and established himself as the key role player for the team during their two NBA Championship runs. In the summer of 2017, Iguodala was a highly sought-after player on the free agents market bud decided to stay with the Warriors agreeing on a three-year, $48 million contract.

Iguodala didn’t manage to make a big contribution to the Warriors so far, struggling with injuries that limited him to just eight games on the floor. It remains to be seen if he will manage to add to that tally or if the free-throw against Phoenix will be the last of Iguodala as an NBA player.

Golden State Warriors sent forward Andre Iguodala to Memphis Grizzlies on Monday as part of the sign-and-trade deal that helped them land D’Angelo Russell. Iguodala, however, might not even get to put on a Grizzlies jersey.
