The Green Bay Packers traveled to Tampa Bay on Sunday to meet the Buccaneers with a mission to solidify their place as the best team in NFC. Instead, they were handed a tough loss that seriously shakes their position as a Super Bowl contender.

Everything was going as planned for the Packers early in the game, as they scored a field goal and a touchdown via Aaron Jones to finish the first quarter with a 10-0 lead. It is hard to believe that this will be all they did by the end of the game.

Packers started unraveling early in the second when quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw his first interception in 2020 and only his third career pick-six. On 3rd&10, deep in his own half, Rodgers threw to wideout Davante Adams on the left sideline. But just as Adams was about to make a catch for a new first down, Bucs’ safety Jamel Dean jumped in front of him, snatched the ball, and carried it all the way to the endzone.

Packers were hoping to put this ugly play behind them on the following possession but stumbled on another third-down conversion. On 3rd&4, Rodgers tried to find Adams once again but the throw bounced off of the wide receiver’s hands and was picked up by Tampa’s Mike Edwards.

Edwards carried the ball all the way to the Packers’ 5-yard line, making it easy for quarterback Tom Brady and the rest of the Bucs’ offense to find a way into the endzone.

After this quick turnaround, Packers completely lost it. The defense wasn’t able to stop anything, while the offense couldn’t start cooking no matter what they tried.

Bucs continued to pile up points and scored two more touchdowns to end the first half. They added 10 more points in the third period, allowing themselves a comfy cushion to see out the rest of the game.

Tampa Bay improved to 4-2 and is showing that the early struggles were just a result of adjusting to new players and changes in the system.

Packers were handed their first loss of the season, and are now 4-1. But it appears that Rodgers believes losing at this point of the year will prove beneficial for his team.

“You don’t ever want to lose like this,” said Rodgers after the game. “I felt like we needed a little bit of a wake-up call at some point this season because things have been so good and there’s been so much talk maybe outside the building about the ease with which we’re moving the ball on offense and scoring. I think we needed kind of a kick in the ass a little bit.“

Despite finishing the last season with a 13-3 record, Green Bay Packers are viewed as an average team entering 2020. The team’s star quarterback Aaron Rodgers seems to be aware of this perception, saying recently that Packers are “kind of flying under the radar.”

But, while many would take an issue with their team being overlooked in Super Bowl conversations, Rodgers looks to an opportunistic side of things.

“I think the beauty is there’s a lot of conversation about other teams,” said Rodgers while talking with reporters on Wednesday. “I like where we’re at as far as kind of flying under the radar even though we went 13-3 last year. We’ve got a chance to prove what kind of team we are starting the season out on Sunday, and I look forward to the opportunity.”

It is safe to say that Green Bay Packers benefited from a weak division and some lucky breaks during the 2019 regular season, but a similar thing could happen this year. Chicago Bears will still have struggling Mitch Trubinsky at QB, Minnesota Vikings are fresh from completely retooling their defense, while Detroit Lions are … well, Detroit Lions.

However, the Packers still haven’t addressed some of their glaring issues from last season, and this could come back to bite them at some point this season. They have depth issues in several positions, but their biggest need remains a wide receiver. Green Bay didn’t have much past Davante Adams in 2019, and it will be the same thing this year as they failed to bring in a dependable No.2 while passing on several talented wideouts in the draft.

Still, we shouldn’t count out the Packers completely as long as they have Aaron Rodgers under center. Considering the franchise’s latest moves, Rodgers’ time at Lambeau Field is coming to an end, but until that happens, Green Bay shouldn’t be overlooked.

Legendary quarterback Brett Favre didn’t get to finish his football career with the Green Bay Packers, playing for two more franchises before hanging up his cleats. Now he believes that his successor at Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers, will follow the same path.

In the recent 2020 NFL Draft, Packers drafted Utah’s QB Jordan Love and sparked rumors that he will replace Rodgers at some point in the future. This will, according to Favre, make Rodgers join another NFL team.

“I think he’ll play somewhere else,” said Favre during his appearance on NBC’s Rich Eisen Show.

Favre added that his “gut” tells him that Rodgers won’t retire as a Packer just as he didn’t get to do the same despite winning a Super Bowl ring and three MVP trophies in Green Bay.

“My gut tells me no,” said Favre when asked whether Rodgers will end his career with Packers. “I don’t know this for certain, but I guarantee you, it’s got the wheels turning in Aaron’s mind. If that’s the case, then that means there’s a chip on his shoulder toward the organization that otherwise was not there. All he needs is a reason other than this reason to expedite that.”

Green Bay Packers surprised the NFL world when they moved up in the first round to take Love, despite badly needing to strengthen the wide receiver position. Many believe that this will be a reason for the divorce between Packers and Aaron Rodgers, considering the Pro Bowl quarterback has had little to work with in recent years.

Still, it appears that the two sides will have to find a way to coexist at least for two more years. Rodgers is almost untradeable until 2021, as he still has four years remaining on his $134 million contract. After that, his cap numbers become more manageable, and he might be on the move while Packers enter the new era with Jordan Love as their signal-caller.

Green Bay Packers’ lost the NFC Championship game against San Francisco 49ers on Sunday and failed to reach their second Super Bowl appearance in the Aaron Rodgers era. Still, despite this heartbreaking failure and fact that he recently turned 36, Rodgers believes his team’s window for returning to Super Bowl is still there.

Talking with reporters after the 37-20 loss, Rodgers expressed optimism that his team will soon be again in the same situation and will emerge on the winning side of the contest.

“The window’s open, and I think we’re going to be on the right side of one of these real soon,” said Rodgers. “That’s the exciting thing. It doesn’t make this feeling any easier, but that is very exciting moving forward.”

Rodgers acknowledged that there is a gap between them and 49ers, but thinks it isn’t as big as many people believe.

“Well, it looks pretty big,” he added. “They got us a couple times, but I don’t think it’s that big. I think we’re really close. I think we’re just a little more consistent performance away from consistently playing with these guys.”

Green Bay Packers had a disastrous first half, falling behind 27 points in the first half in which Aaron Rodgers failed to put any points on the board, being harassed by San Francisco’s defense. Rodgers bounced back to finish the game with 326 yards and two touchdowns, but he also added two interceptions.

This was Rodgers’ fourth trip to NFC Championship and his third loss. The one time he managed to go past this hurdle, he won it all.
