The New York Yankees had a disappointing 2023 campaign that saw them miss out on the postseason for the first time since 2016. This didn’t sit well with owner Hal Steinbrenner, who plans to make “some changes” in order to position the Yankees for a better run next season.

“We’re going to be making some changes. Some may be more subtle than others, but I think we’ve uncovered certainly things we can do better,” Steinbrenner told reporters on Wednesday.

According to Steinbrenner, he still isn’t sure what those changes might include.

“Anything’s possible. There’s a lot more discussions to be had,” he added.

It would be surprising to see the Yankees move on from general manager Brian Cashman as part of those changes. Cashman has been with the franchise since 1998, orchestrating four World Series trips and two World Series wins for the New York team. He also signed a four-year extension in late 2022.

Manager Aaron Boone, on the other hand, seems less secure. Boone’s future with the franchise has been questioned before after disappointing playoff outings, while he also has just one year left on his contract.

The Yankees finished the 2023 season with an 82-80 record. This is their worst record in a full season since 1992 when they finished with 76 wins.

The New York Yankees have made it to the postseason in each of the four years that Aaron Boone was helming the team. But it appears that this still might not be enough for Boone to keep his job as manager of the Yankees.

Boone spoke with reporters on Tuesday following the Yankees’ 2-6 loss to the Boston Red Sox in the AL wild-card game and said he still hasn’t had any talks about a new deal with the front office despite him being out of contract following the 2021 MLB season.

“I haven’t had any conversations about [my contract] with anyone, so we’ll see,” Boone said. “I love being here. I love going to work with this group of players.”

Boone joined the Yankees in 2018 and has compiled an impressive 328-218 managerial record while leading the team to one AL East title. However, the Yankees are all about winning the World Series, and the team is still to even reach it under Boone. Their best shot was in 2019 when they lost in AL Championship Series to the Houston Astros in six games.

Reflecting on the previous four years, Boone said that he is satisfied with how he led the team.

“Whatever does happen, I’m at peace with,” he explained. “I know that I can hold my head high.”

It will be surprising if the Yankees decide to move on from Boone despite the team’s shortcomings in the trophy department. He is believed to have support from both the fanbase and the players, with All-Star Aaron Judge telling reporters after the Red Sox game that he “could spend all night giving you reasons why he should still be the manager.”

The Red Sox extended their lead in the Eastern Conference table rankings after a comfortable 14-6 victory over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night. Elsewhere, the Yankees run to catch up with Boston was stalled by a 4-1 loss to Chicago’s White Sox.

Boston’s win was overshadowed by a minor injury to their main pitcher David Price. The 33-year old was struck by a powerful shot initiated by Austin Dean in the third out.

“I think it’s all be all right, been hit a couple of times this year,” Price, who wore a brace and a wrap on his fist, said.

After trailing 5-3, the Red Sox geared up and made one of their biggest innings of the season. The victory means the Boston-based team has won in 22 of their last 26 interleague matches. They also upped their ranking on the East AL league, to increase their gap with New York Yankees, who lost in the same night to Chicago.

LaMarre and Lopex Stellar

The White Sox’s dominant run was bolstered by LaMarre’s four runs and Lopex’s stellar performance. Although 27 games before they can reach .500, Chicago’s win was a blow to the Yankees, who are now seven and a half games trailing Boston.

Manager Aaron Boone described the loss as “disheartening” irrespective of the opponent in question.

The New York Yankees finally found their man. The team has announced on Monday that they have hired former MLB infielder Aaron Boone as their new manager. The Yankees’ managerial position was vacated after the team parted ways with Joe Girardi in October. Boone, who has signed a three-year deal, will be officially introduced on Wednesday.

I firmly believe that Aaron possesses the attributes needed to follow in the tradition of great Yankees managers,” – said chairman of the New York Yankees, Hal Steinbrenner, in a statement. “From all accounts, he is a polished communicator who possesses the ability to cultivate and grow relationships. Aaron has also spent a lifetime immersed in baseball, affording him a unique and intimate understanding of what fosters team success.

Aaron Boone played for numerous teams during his MLB career including Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, Washington Nationals, and Houston Astros. He earned an All-Star selection in 2003. After retiring in 2010, Boone became a game analyst for ESPN. He doesn’t have any previous managerial experience.

Words cannot express how humbled I am to wear the pinstripes again as the manager of the Yankees,” – Boone said. “I want to thank the Steinbrenner family and Brian Cashman for entrusting me with this tremendous honor and responsibility. I believe we are entering into a special time in New York Yankees history, and I am so excited to be a part of it. I can’t wait to get to work — and that work starts now.

According to Yankees GM Brian Cashman, the team met with number of candidates for managerial position before settling with Boone. Among the other candidates for the spot were Carlos Beltran, Hensley Meulens, Rob Thomson and Chris Woodward.
