The Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown will not appear in Monday night’s playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to a right knee injury. “It was going to be a stretch for A.J. to play,” coach Nick Sirianni admitted. “He did everything he possibly could to get himself ready. He fought like crazy to try and do everything he could do.”

Brown was injured during the first quarter of the Eagles’ loss to the New York Giants last week. After Giants cornerback Nick McCloud punched the ball out of Brown’s hands, the two hit the turf. Brown subsequently rose gingerly, making his way to the medical tent. He was consequently ruled out of practice for the entire week.

Finishing the regular season with 106 receptions for 1,456 yards and seven touchdowns, Brown has been a key player for the Eagles throughout the season. During the Eagles’ previous win over the Bucs in September, Brown made nine catches for 131 yards.

After getting burned a couple of times, the Philadelphia Eagles decided they won’t risk it by taking a wide receiver in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. So instead, they traded for one.

The Eagles announced that they had acquired Pro Bowl wideout A.J. Brown from the Tennessee Titans on draft night. In exchange, they sent their No. 18 and No. 101 picks in this year’s draft to Tennessee.

According to reports, the Eagles also agreed to an extension with Brown. The 24-year-old player, who was entering the final year of his rookie deal, received a four-year, $100 million contract. This includes $57 million in guarantees.

The reason why Brown is on the move is that the Titans didn’t want to give him the type of deal he ended up receiving from the Eagles. This year, the wideout market has blown up in terms of contract values, and Tennessee obviously didn’t want to follow that trend.

With the trade, the Eagles get a proven No. 1 wideout that can form a formidable duo with 2020’s Heisman Trophy-winner DeVonta Smith. On the other hand, the Titans used the No. 18 pick to select Arkansas receiver Treylon Burks.

Shortly after the move was confirmed, Brown told ESPN’s Turron Davenport that he wanted to remain a Titan but that the franchise’s offer was simply too low.

“This wasn’t my fault,” said Brown. “I wanted to stay, but the deal they offered was a low offer.”

Brown, a second-round selection in 2019, has 185 catches for 2,995 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns since entering the league. He was a Pro Bowler in 2020.

In last year’s playoffs, Tennesee Titans star running back Derrick Henry ran wild against the Baltimore Ravens for 195 yards, knocking them out of the playoffs on their way to the AFC Championship Game.

The Ravens made sure that history wasn’t going to repeat itself in this year’s Super Wild-Card matchup.

The Baltimore defense dominated the line of scrimmage, holding Henry—who rushed for over 2,000 yards this season—to only 40 yards on 18 rushing attempts.

On offense, the Ravens rushing game excelled, led by star quarterback Lamar Jackson, who rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown on 16 attempts.

With Henry being taken out of the game completely, the Titans had to rely on the arm of quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who looked good leading the Titans offense in the first quarter, connecting numerous times with his Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown.

However, down 20-13 in the fourth quarter, Tannehill ended up throwing a costly interception, picked off by Ravens defensive back Marcus Peters, which sealed the win for the Ravens.

The Ravens will now head to Buffalo to face the Bills in the next round of the playoffs, while the Cleveland Browns, who upset the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, will face the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
