Roger Federer has ended his 2018 Wimbledon adventure. Arguably the best tennis player in the history of the sport couldn’t get past Kevin Anderson despite being one point away from getting a win.

Federer won first two sets, and it looked like he was heading for a comfortable win over Anderson, who is currently eight ranked tennis player on ATP list. Towards the end of the third set, Federer had a 5-4 lead and had a match point but didn’t manage to capitalize on it. After that, the momentum changed with Anderson winning the third set and eventually ending the two remaining sets in his favor.

It was just one of those days where you hope to get by somehow,” – said Federer after the match. “I almost could have. I should have. I’m up two sets to one. It’s all good, so … At that point, I wasn’t thinking of losing.

Kevin Anderson will face John Isner, who got a 3-1 win against Milos Raonic, in the 2018 Wimbledon semi-finals.

I just kept on telling myself, ‘I have to keep believing.’ I kept saying that today was going to be my day because you really need that mindset taking the court against somebody like Roger,” – said Anderson after this big success. “If you go out there with doubts or unsure what’s going to happen, like I maybe did a little bit in that first set, it’s not going to go your way.

Rafael Nadal, currently ranked as the No.1 male tennis player in the world, was also faced with the possibility of getting eliminated in his match against Juan Martin del Potro. After three sets, Nadal was behind but managed to find his way back into the match and win the remaining two sets. He will face Novak Djokovic in the semifinals.
