Reigning Formula One champion Max Verstappen failed to finish the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday, ending his streak of nine consecutive wins. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, just two weeks removed from an appendix surgery, won the race ahead of his teammate Charles Leclerc and McLaren’s Lando Norris.

Verstappen started the race from the pole position and was in the lead after three laps when his car caught fire. This was the first time he was forced to retire after 2022 and 43 consecutive races.

After Verstappen dropped out, Sainz emerged as the leader and never relinquished his first position. This was the first win for the Spaniard since Singapore Grand Prix in 2023 and third in his career.

“Life sometimes is crazy, you know. What happened at the beginning of the year, then the podium in Bahrain, then appendix, the comeback, the win, it’s a roller coaster. But I loved it,” said Sainz after the race.

Despite not getting any points in Melbourne, Verstappen is still sitting at the top of F1 Driver’s Standings with 51 points. Leclerc is second with 47 followed by Red Bull’s Sergio Perez (46), Sainz (40), and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri (28). Red Bull is first in the Team Standings with 97 points, followed by Ferrari and McLaren.

Expect to see Charles Leclerc in Ferrari’s Formula 1 car for years to come. Scuderia Ferrari just announced that Leclerc inked an extension that will keep him with the organization “beyond the 2024 season”.

Leclerc finished the 2023 F1 campaign with six podiums and 206 points, enough for 5th place at the F1 Driver Standings. He had five poles but failed to get a single win.

“I’m very pleased to know that I will be wearing the Scuderia Ferrari race suit for several more seasons to come,” Leclerc said in a statement. “ … This team is my second family ever since I joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2016, and we have achieved a lot together, fighting through thick and thin over the past five years.”

Charles Leclerc made his debut in Formula 1 in 2018 with Alfa Romeo Sauber, finishing his debut season at No. 13. The following year, he joined Ferrari as a replacement for Kimi Räikkönen and made an immediate impact. Leclerc had two wins and seven poles in his first season with Ferrari, ending the campaign fourth on the standings.

Leclerc’s best season in F1 came in 2022. He won three races and had nine poles, picking up 308 points and finishing second to champion Max Verstappen.

After locking Leclerc, Ferrari is expected to turn their attention to the No. 2 driver spot. Leclerc’s current teammate, Carlos Sainz, has just one year on his contract, and it is unclear whether Ferrari plans to keep him beyond that.

American fans of Formula One will be able to cheer for Logan Sargeant in the 2024 season as well. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida, native is returning to Williams next year, with the F1 team officially confirming the news on Friday.

Sargeant’s future in F1 was in doubt at the end of the 2023 season, with Williams appearing non-committal to the 22-year-old. But it appears that the team boss, James Vowles, believes in his potential and ability to make progress in his sophomore year.

Sargeant had a rough rookie year in F1, failing to finish seven races, including five due to mistakes and crashes. He finished the season 21st out of 22 drivers, picking up only one point. However, there were some positive moments, including the No.6 place in qualifiers for the United States Grand Prix.

“I am pleased to continue our journey with Logan into the 2024 season,” Vowles said in a statement. “Logan has demonstrated immense skill whilst under the pressure of the world stage, making him a perfect fit for our team. We have great confidence in his abilities and believe that together, we can achieve even greater success in the upcoming season.”

Williams will also bring back Alex Albon for the 2024 F1 season. Albon had a much better year than Sargeant, scoring 27 points and helping the team to finish seventh in the Constructors’ Rankings.

Formula 1 will return to Las Vegas on Sunday with its first race in the Sin City since 1982, and it is Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who will be in the best position to win it.

Leclerc captured the pole position during Friday’s qualifiers after posting the fastest lap time of 1:32.726. This will be Leclerc’s fifth pole position in the 2023 F1 season.

Speaking with reporters after the qualifiers, Leclerc said he wasn’t completely satisfied with his performance.

“To be starting from the pole is great. However, I’m a bit disappointed about my laps in Q3. I didn’t do a good enough job but it was enough for P1 and that’s all we need,” Leclerc said. “Now it’s full focus to try and put everything together for the race. Normally, that’s where we lack most performance so I hope we can put it all together and win here.”

Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz finished second in qualifying but was handed a ten-place grid penalty, so he’ll be starting from No. 12. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who already secured the Formula One championship win for this season, will start second as a result.

American driver Logan Sargeant, who races for Williams, will start the race in front of the home fans sixth from the grid. This is Sargeant’s best result in qualifiers in what is his first season in Formula 1.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen already had his third Formula 1 championship in the bag before the Qatar Grand Prix on Sunday. But that didn’t stop him from going at full speed and clinching yet another win this season.

Verstappen finished first in the sprint race on Saturday, securing enough points to win the 2023 F1 Championship even before the Qatar GP even started. He then started the race from the pole position and didn’t look back, crossing the finishing line 4.83 seconds ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri. Lando Norris, the second McLaren’s driver, finished third.

The win at Qatar GP was Verstappen’s 14th this season. There are still five Formula 1 races left in 2023, and the 26-year-old Dutchman doesn’t seem like he will take his foot off the gas. He intends to continue pushing for wins and has a chance to top his 2022 record of 15 wins in a single F1 season.

“We will enjoy it a little, but there are still quite a few races out there that we want to win!” said Verstappen after the Qatar GP.

Besides serving as Verstappen’s winning lap, Qatar GP also saw some drama. Starting the race behind Verstappen, Mercedes drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton crashed in the opening lap while trying to take the lead. This ended up with Hamilton being knocked out of the race and Russell having to work his way into the race to finish fourth.

Oscar Piastri needed only 15 Formula One races to convince McLaren that he is their driver of the future. The F1 team announced on Wednesday that Piastri signed a contract extension that runs through the 2026 season.

Piastri secured a new deal thanks to an impressive debut campaign that saw him collect 42 points and rank 11th on the F1 Driver Standings at the moment. His best finish was fourth place at the British Grand Prix.

“I am thrilled to be extending my partnership with McLaren for many years,” Piastri said after signing the deal. “I want to be fighting it out at the front of the grid with this team, and I am excited by the vision and foundations that are already being laid to get us there.

McLaren now has now secured stability at the driver positions for the foreseeable future. Lando Norris is also on a long-term contract that runs through the 2025 Formula One season.

Oscar Piastri has been long touted as the next big star in car racing. He had an exceptional run before coming to Formula One that saw him win the Formula Renault Eurocup, Formula 3 Championship, and Formula 2 Championship in straight seasons.

Piastri was initially contracted to race for Alpine this season after serving as the team’s test driver in the 2022 season. However, the Australian driver ended up rejecting the opportunity and forced a move to McLaren.

After winning 10 consecutive races, Max Verstappen saw his record-winning streak come to an end at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday. It was also a bad day for Red Bull, considering it was the first race they hadn’t won this season. And it was all because of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz.

After getting the pole position in the qualifiers, Sainz remained mainly error-free throughout 62 laps. He also wowed the spectators with some masterful defense late in the race as he looked to avoid being overtaken by McLaren’s Lando Norris.

Norris ended up finishing second, while Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton grabbed the last spot on the podium following a crash by his teammate George Russell.

This was the second win for Sainz in his F1 career and the first one for Ferrari in more than a year.

“We nailed the weekend, we nailed the race, and we did everything we had to do, and we did it perfect,” Sainz said after the race. “We brought home P1 and I’m sure the whole of Italy and the whole of Ferrari are going to be proud and happy today. “

Verstappen, who started the race from 11th position, managed to get to No. 5. However, he still has a huge lead on the driver standings with 374 points. If he bounces back at the upcoming Japan GP, the reigning F1 champion will be able to secure another title in the next couple of races.

Max Verstappen believes that his record run of Formula One victories will come to an end on Sunday at the Singapore Grand Prix. Having won 10 consecutive Grand Prix starting in Miami in May, he will be 11th on the grid following Saturday’s qualifiers after his car experienced braking issues.

“Yeah, you can forget about that,” Verstappen said when asked about his chances of winning. “We made a few more changes [ahead of qualifying] which we thought the setup would allow, the car would allow, but then we got into qualifying, the first big problem I had was that I couldn’t brake late and hard, because I would bottom out and it would unload the front tires.”

While Red Bull has won every race this year thanks to the combined effort of Verstappen and teammate Sergio Perez, this run also looks likely to end as Perez qualified 13th. Still, regardless of Sunday’s result, Verstappen will win his third world title this year.

Alfa Romeo re-signed their driver Zhou Guanyu to keep him part of their driver lineup for the 2024 Formula One season. Guanyu was previously on an expiring contract.

The news means that Alfa Romeo will enter the 2024 campaign with the same pair of drivers in Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu.

The team announced the news ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix.

“I’m very happy to be continuing with the Alfa Romeo team. The work has been done in the past, and the chats between the team have been going well and transparent,” said Zhou after the news became official. “I’m just happy to be able to announce in Singapore. I’m really happy and excited for where the team is heading and to be taking more into this project in the future.”

Zhou Guanyu entered the F1 in 2020 as a test driver for Renault following encouraging performances in Formula 2. He then served in the same role with the Alpine in 2021 while finishing third in the Formula 2 Championship.

Guanyu made his Formula One debut in 2022 with Alfa Romeo, becoming the first Chinese driver to compete in F1. The 24-year-old finished his debut season as the 18th best driver. He is currently 16th after 15 races in 2023.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen continued his dominant showing in the 2023 Formula One season with a win at the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday. Verstappen now has 10 consecutive wins, which is a new F1 record.

Verstappen beat the record previously held by Sebastian Vettel, who had nine straight wins in 2013 while racing for Red Bull as well. He will have a chance to improve it in two weeks at Singapore GP.

Verstappen started the race from the second position but only needed 14 laps to surpass Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz. After emerging on top, the Dutch driver had no trouble remaining there for the remainder of the race.

Sainz ended up losing the second position to second Red Bull driver Sergio Perez before the finishing line, while his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc finished fourth.

Verstappen has now extended his lead at the top of the F1 driver standings with 364 points. Perez is second with 219 points, followed by Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso (170) and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton (164).

Red Bull is even more dominant in the Team Standings. They have 583 points, more than double compared to second place Mercedes with 273. Red Bull has won all 14 races this season, with 12 going to Verstappen and two to Perez.
