McLaren’s Lando Norris put together an almost perfect race on Sunday to win the Singapore Grand Prix and further cut into Max Verstappen’s advantage in the championship race.

After winning the pole position on Saturday, Norris sustained early pressure from Verstappen, starting at P2, and proceeded to lead the race for all of its 62 laps. He finished with a 20.9-second advantage over Verstappen, who finished second. Norris’ McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri was third.

“It was an amazing race,” Norris said. “A few too many close calls – I had a couple of little moments in the middle, but it was well controlled I think, otherwise … The car was mega, I could push and we were flying the whole race. It was a nice race. Still tough, I’m a bit out of breath, but very fun one.”

After the Singapore GP win, Norris now trails Verstappen by 52 points with six races left in the 2024 F1 season. He could have made it 51 points, but his bid for the fastest lap ended up futile, thanks to Daniel Ricciardo.

Norris had the fastest lap in the bag before Ricciardo, racing for RB, the sister team of Verstappen’s Red Bull, pitted for fresh tires before the last lap. Ricciardo proceeded to take the fastest lap away from Norris in a move many seen as an attempt to help Verstappen in the championship race.

On Team Standings, McLaren has an even bigger advantage over Red Bull. McLaren is at the top with 516 points compared to Red Bull’s 475. Ferrari rounds up the Top 3 with 441 points.
