Belinda Bencic Impresses In US Open First Round

Swiss starlet Belinda Bencic showed that she is a force to be reckoned with in this year’s edition of the US Open after she defeated Mandy Minella in straight sets on court five in her first round of action.

Bencic, ranked 12th in the WTA Rankings, took the first set 6-3 after just 35 minutes of play. With the momentum swinging firmly in her favor, Bencic calmly wrapped up the match with a 6-2 victory in the second set.

While underdog Minella was unable to get an ace against the Swiss favorite, Bencic was able to serve an impressive five aces in what was a short match. She also showed enjoyed some smooth consistency. managing a winning streak of five consecutive games.

Bencic has steadily improved in her Grand Slams performances this year, making it to the round of 32 in each tournament. She also won the Dubai Open in February this year, defeating the likes of Petra Kvitova, Elina Svitolina and Simona Halep en route to the championship.

Bencic enjoyed a fine start to the calendar year with her Hopman Cup victory whereby she and partner Roger Federer grabbed victory for Switzerland against the German pairing of Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber. This match came down to the wire, with the final result being 4-0 1-4 4-3(4) in favor of the Swiss pair.
