We’re five games into this year’s NFL season, and the Arizona Cardinals are the only undefeated team in the league. Sporting a whopping 5-0 record, the Cards are impressing folks left and right, and people aren’t sure what to make of it.

Last season, the Cardinals ended their season with a dull 8-8 record, easily missing the playoffs. Most betting individuals probably wouldn’t have predicted them to be leading the league at this point in time, but then again, that’s what makes the NFL so exciting to watch. But the real question remains—will Arizona manage to keep it up?

One thing that’s good to note is that their wins haven’t exactly been crummy wins. Their first game, against the Tennessee Titans, was a major 38-13 blowout, and a few games later, they beat the Los Angeles Rams, a team that has so far won all of their other games.

The Cardinals are also in a tough division, which includes the Rams, and therefore their margin for error will be thin as the weeks go by. Nevertheless, their confidence is riding as high as can be right now, so who’s to say they can’t keep it up?

With quarterback Kyler Murray at the helm, a talented bevy of receivers and backs, and a stellar defense, the sky is the limit for this year’s Cardinals. It’ll be interesting to see if they can hold down the fort—starting with their Week 6 game on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

Believe it or not, the popularity of racing is rising by the day. And not just any racing—Formula One specifically.

It’s not that Formula One hasn’t had its own niche crowd for decades. If there weren’t millions of fans around the world showing their love for the sport, it would’ve died out years ago. However, it’s never been mainstream, and that seems to be changing as of late.

Much of this phenomenon can be explained with one simple word: Netflix. Recently, Netflix released a documentary reality series titled Formula 1: Drive to Survive. Since then, the sport has risen in popularity, with the series releasing a second and third season as well. Netflix has this incredible ability to invite newbies into fields they aren’t familiar with, and allow them to fall in love with it.

Fans of basketball, baseball, and football, may not have watched a Formula One race in their entire life, but after watching a few episodes of the documentary, they can easily learn about the sports biggest stars such as Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Daniel Ricardo, and countless others.

Thanks to streaming services such as Netflix, Formula One is only one of many obscure sports that may see a shocking rise in popularity. Will you be a part of the wave?

After a heartbreaking Game 1 opening 5-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, things didn’t look promising for the Boston Red Sox. Sure, it was only one game, but such a defeat could’ve broken the spirit of many other teams. But not this Red Sox team. A week later, on the heels of three straight victories, they’re now advancing to the ALCS.

In Game 2, Boston showed Tampa why they’re the team to beat with an astonishing 14-6 victory. In Game 3, Boston took the lead in the series with another 6-4 win. But it was in Game 4 that the emotions were running high, after Kike Hernandez gave Boston their second straight walk-off win to vanquish the Tampa Bay Rays for good, ending the series 3-1.

Boston is now set to face the Houston Astros in the ALCS, and will certainly have their hands full with that. If they manage to get past Houston, they’ll be given the task of facing either the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, or Atlanta Braves, depending on which of them makes it.

Needless to say, Boston’s road to the crown still may have plenty of bumps, but if this opening series is any indication, we think they’ll have the tools to handle it.

The NBA, like all other organizations, is always trying to improve its product. It recognizes the fact that its product needs to change according to the consumer and the culture that surrounds it. So will the NBA ever introduce a four-point shot?

The Rise of the Three

As crazy as the idea of a four-pointer may seem, consider the fact that three-pointers didn’t exist before the 1979-1980 season. Yes, that’s right. The three-point shot was introduced long after the league ever got created, and it wasn’t even super popular at first. Over time, the popularity of the three-pointer grew and grew, and now it’s more popular than it’s ever been.

A Whole New Thing

Now we have players that are shooting long balls way behind the three-point line. This makes one wonder if the NBA may consider adopting a new line—perhaps one a foot or two behind the traditional three-point line. If this is implemented, it’ll change everything.

Some traditionalists may be upset over it, but hey! People said the same thing about the three, and therefore anything is possible. The customer is always right, and if enough fans buy into it, it might just stick. Then again, the NBA is more popular than ever right now, so commissioner Adam Silver might not jump the shark too hastily.

There’s been a lot of strange speculation lately regarding the role that Kyrie Irving will have on the Brooklyn Nets this year. Weirdly enough, this speculation has nothing to do with basketball.

No one is doubting Irving’s abilities on the court. And after his stellar performance last season alongside teammates Kevin Durant and James Harden, no one’s doubting Brooklyn’s ability to thrive with them as a big three.

What people are talking about, however, is this whole vaccine thing—and the fact that Irving doesn’t seem to want to get one.

The reason people are concerned is because if Irving doesn’t get vaccinated, this will limit the amount of games that he’s allowed to play, especially in New York, where his Nets are based out of.

Superstar Durant, however, doesn’t seem to be worried about any of it. As he said last Wednesday through ESPN, “I’m envisioning Kyrie being a part of our team. Maybe I’m just naive, but that is just how I feel. But I think everybody here has that confidence in themselves, in our group, that if we keep building we can do something special.”

We’re loving the optimism, and we certainly agree that the Nets are stacked. We just hope they’ll have all men on deck when push comes to the shove.

Even though the Los Angeles Dodgers had the second-best record in the entire MLB, there was still a very good chance they could’ve missed the playoffs. But Chris Taylor saved his team from that unfortunate fate by hitting a walk-off two-run homer in their wild-card elimination game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night.

League rules state that the leaders of each division advance to the playoffs. After that, the top two wild card teams face off in an elimination game. The only flaw with this rule is that some divisions are much stronger than others. So this season, for instance, the only team in the league with a better record than the Dodgers were the San Francisco Giants (by a mere two games)—and they share a division with the Dodgers.

So in a shocking twist of fate, Los Angeles found themselves inches away from the potential end of their season, even though their record was substantially better than most teams in the league.

And what a nailbiter it was. The Cardinals wasted no time putting points on the board, going up 1-0 in the top of the first inning. The score remained that way until the bottom of the fourth, when Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner belted one out of the park for a solo shot, making it 1-1.

Over the next four innings, both teams were on their toes quite a bit, with countless runners finding themselves in scoring position—but none of them actually scoring due to some clutch pitching and fielding.

When the ninth inning came around, the drama was at an all-time high. St. Louis second baseman Tommy Edman was able to put himself in scoring position, but he too didn’t cross the plate due to excellent clutch pitching by the Dodgers’ Kenley Jansen.

The bottom of the ninth was the kind of thing all aspiring athletes dream about. Dodger left fielder Chris Taylor, a fan favorite, found himself at the plate with two outs and one man on. Taylor proceeded to hit the ball out of the park, ending the elimination game in heart-wrenching fashion and helping Los Angeles defeat St. Louis 3-1.

Ever since the tragic death of the late great Kobe Bryant in early 2020, players have delivered endless tributes to the Laker Legend. The most recent of them came from none other than Brooklyn Nets superstar forward Kevin Durant.

In an Instagram story, Durant shared a photo of Bryant guarding him back when Durant played for the Seattle SuperSonics (now known as the Oklahoma City Thunder). On the photo, Durant wrote the caption, “Bean always hackin’ man”.

There’s no secret that Kobe was a relentless defender. In addition to his incredible ability to score, the Black Mamba made the NBA All-Defensive First Team nine times, and the All-Defensive Second Team three times throughout his career.

So why did Durant share this story? Some might say that Durant was just trolling. Some might say that Durant was trying to make excuses for how he might’ve performed against the Mamba.

But those who know how much Durant looked up to the five-time NBA Champion know very well that his Instagram post was clearly done out of love. When the world lost Kobe, it was devastating for his family, friends, and fans—but also for his fellow NBA players.

We all have different ways of coping with loss, and this seems to be KD’s way of doing it.

It’s been far too long since we’ve watched an NBA game, and we’re getting itchy for some basketball talk. So what better way to prepare for the upcoming season than to discuss who may be this year’s Most Valuable Player? Last year’s winner, Nikola Jokic, was an unconventional selection, but no less deserving because of it. Will this year’s winner come out of left field as well? Here are our top candidates to win it in 2021-2022.

Nikola Jokic

Considering the fact that Jokic won the award last year, we have to do him the service of putting him on this list. The guy’s an absolute basketball genius and a point guard in a center’s body, and he certainly has a shot to repeat.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Greek Freak won back-to-back MVPs in the years that preceded last season, and we wouldn’t be surprised if he comes back for more. This dude’s an absolute monster and after a strong championship season, look for Giannis to only get better.

Kevin Durant

The Brooklyn forward is hungry for another title, and with enough distance from his injury, we wouldn’t be surprised if he has one of his best seasons yet.

LeBron James

Does LeBron have enough strength in him for another MVP season? Some would argue that he was on par for the hardware before he got injured last season. With a chip on his shoulder and a vengeance to prove that he’s not washed, it’s never smart to count him out.

LeBron James has been excluded from basketball activities for about six weeks now, and as a result, the Lakers have slipped pretty heavily in the Western Conference standings.

When James had first gotten injured, the Lakers were teetering amongst the top 3 teams in the West, but hardly at risk for losing a playoff bid. Shockingly, their playoff hopes are now in question.

James finally returned to the floor late last week in a game against the Sacramento Kings, and Laker fans hoped that he would help them finally get a win on the board. Unfortunately they lost, with James missing a three-pointer with two seconds on the clock that would’ve won the game for them.

When asked about his time away from the floor, James had this to say: “It was horrible, honestly, for me. I was more stressful than I’ve ever been.”

Unfortunately, the Lakers followed up that loss with yet another one on Sunday night against the Toronto Raptors. To make matters worse, James left the game with a sore ankle.

With veteran point guard Dennis Schroder also experiencing his share of injury problems lately, the Lakers are in some serious trouble. They’re neck in neck with both the Dallas Mavericks and the Portland Trailblazers in the playoff race, and if they’re not careful—they might not even get a chance to prove themselves in the postseason.
