AC Milan will keep Zlatan Ibrahimovic on board even though the Swedish striker will probably be out until early 2023. The Seria A champs revealed the news on Monday, announcing they have re-signed Ibrahimovic to a new one-year deal.

According to the club’s official statement, Ibra’s new deal runs until June 30, 2023, and the 40-year-old player will continue to wear No. 11 on his jersey.

Ibrahimovic didn’t play a lot in 2021-22, making only 23 appearances in Seria A due to various injuries. He still managed to contribute with eight goals and three assists, helping the club win their first domestic title in more than a decade.

After the season ended, Ibrahimovic revealed that he had been playing through an ACL injury for the entire second part of the season. He underwent surgery to deal with the injury in late May and will spend at least seven months on the sidelines. But despite the long layoff and the fact that he’ll be 41 in October, it appears that Ibrahimovic is still not ready to say goodbye to soccer.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic joined Milan for his second spell in 2019 after previously spending years playing in MLS for LA Galaxy. Ibrahimovic, who also won Seria A during his first stint with the club, played 74 games since then and scored 36 goals.
