New York Jets coach Robert Saleh has backtracked on his previous claim three weeks ago that Zach Wilson would be the Jets’ starting quarterback for the remainder of the season. When questioned about his lineup for the game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Saleh remained noncommital, refusing that confirm that Wilson would be his quarterback of choice for the game.

The second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, this marks the first occasion on which Wilson’s status as the Jets’ first-choice quarterback has come into question.

“We’re keeping everything on the table over the next couple of days,” Saleh stated in response to the press’s questioning. Upon being pressed for an answer about Wilson’s inclusion in the squad, Saleh replied, “Not right now, not until I’m done evaluating everything.”

Wilson is 5-2 as a starter this season, however, his first-choice status has come into question after he performed poorly in two of the last three games. In the Jets’ two recent losses to the New England Patriots, Wilson managed to complete just nine of his 22 passes from a career-low 77 yards.
