CC Sabathia’s knee problems reared their ugly head again this week, which will cause the veteran lefty starter to head to the 10-day Injured List.

The 38-year-old starter noticed knee discomfort during his Wednesday start against the Baltimore. The lefty pitched through the pain, finishing the outing with 5 innings pitched and 7 strikeouts, allowing 4 earned runs.

Despite this, he’ll need an IL stint to get healthy again, as the Yankees announced that he’ll spend some time on the shelf to get his knee discomfort under control.

Sabathia, who became the 17th picture in MLB history to record 3,000 career strikeouts in April, has been one of the Yankees’ best starting pitchers this season. He has recorded a 3.48 ERA and a 3-1 record this season.

The Yankees haven’t announced how much time Sabathia will miss with his injury, but many expect Sabathia to not miss much time. In the meantime, however, the Yankees will have to find a way to replace Sabathia in the starting rotation.

The future Hall of Fame left-hander announced earlier this year that the 2019 season will be his last as a professional baseball player. He hopes to return soon and continue his successful campaign, which has helped propel New York to a 32-17 record, good for 1st place in the AL East.
