The New York Yankees announced on Saturday that they have acquired Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins. The outfielder is expected to provide a major boost to the Yankees lineup that has largely relied on the talents of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto in order to get runs on the board on a regular basis.
Hailing from the Bahamas, Chisholm primarily played at second base during his first three major league seasons before transitioning to center field last season. Starting 94 games this season, the 26-year-old player has a .249 batting average with 13 home runs and a .730 OPS. Despite primarily playing at center field, Chisholm reverted to his previous role at second base over the past two games.
Given his versatility, Chisholm will come in great use for the Yankees at center field. In this case, the Yankees could shift Judge to left field. Chisholm could also be utilized at second base against right-handed hitters. It is only at third base that Chisholm has never played. Still, the Bahmanian’s athleticism will be greatly appreciated by the Yankees, with the rising star coming 29th in stolen bases in the league last season. He also pulled off 22 steals.
