The Carolina Panthers continue to add offensive weapons to their roster as they prepare to take a rookie quarterback with the first overall pick in this year’s draft. After previously adding veteran wideout Adam Thielen and tight end Hayden Hurst in free agency, the Panthers have now also signed wide receiver DJ Chark.

The franchise confirmed Chark’s arrival on Friday but did not disclose the details of the deal. Reportedly, the ex-Detroit Lions player received a one-year, $5 million contract.

Chark started 10 games with the Lions in 2022, catching 30 passes for 502 yards and three touchdowns. The 26-year-old went on Twitter after his deal with the Panthers became official to say his time in Detroit was “incredible.” He later added that “this chance in Carolina is second to none! Can’t wait to see what this journey holds for me!”

The Carolina Panthers previously sent their No. 1 wide receiver DJ Moore to the Chicago Bears as part of the trade that landed them the first pick in 2023 NFL Draft. Chark is expected to step into Moore’s role while Thielen will do most of his work from the slot.

Chark started his pro career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who took him in the second round of 2018 NFL Draft. He has 177 career receptions for 2,544 yards and 18 touchdowns.
