Having been out of the league for almost a year, Antonio Callaway will attempt to find his way back to the NFL in 2020. According to NFL Network, Callaway signed a deal with the Miami Dolphins, joining the organization’s practice squad.

Miami hosted Callaway late last week for a workout, and the 23-year-old wideout was impressive enough to earn an opportunity to get back on the field. The news was later confirmed by Callaway’s agent Malki Kawa.

“I’m so proud of the work Antonio has done in the last several months to put himself in this position with a second chance with his hometown team,” said Kawa.

The Dolphins won’t be able to count on Callaway for the first part of the 2020 season though, considering he has to serve a seven-game suspension. However, he’ll still be able to attend team meetings and take part in other activities.

Antonio Callaway had a productive but troublesome college career at Florida, which ended with a one-year suspension in 2017. While serving the suspension, Callaway decided to enter the 2018 NFL Draft where Cleveland Browns’ took him with a fourth-round pick despite the evident red flags.

Callaway’s first season as a pro was a success, as he played all 16 games while catching 43 passes for 586 yards and five touchdowns. However, his sophomore year proved to be a lot more challenging as he received a suspension for substance abuse that saw him miss the first four games of 2019. While Callaway returned to Brown’s roster and played four games, the team decided to release him in November as he routinely showed up late for meetings and practices.

Callaway later tried a football comeback with the XFL’s Tampa Bay Vipers but suffered a leg injury before making a single appearance for the team.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
