In a result that was to be expected by many, dark horses Wolverhampton Wanderers held visitors Manchester United to a gutsy 1-1 draw at the Molineux Stadium. This was one of those incidences where the events on the field were to be accurately reflected by the scoreline.

Throughout the opening 25 minutes of the game, the Red Devils dominated proceedings, ultimately looking the more likely to score. This is indeed what transpired, as Anthony Martial struck the ball into the back of the net in the 27th minute after picking up a Marcus Rashford pass, marking his 50th goal in a Manchester United shirt.

As play seemed to even out for the rest of the first half, Wolves started to pile on the pressure after the break, with a Raul Jimenez header hitting the woodwork after a well-crafted free-kick. Wolves’ efforts ultimately bore fruit in the 55th minute, through a long-range Ruben Neves screamer that sent shock waves around the Molineux. With play evenly dispersed for the remainder of the game, no further goals were scored, with the game ending in a point a piece.

This game was yet another display of the threat posed by both sides, with the result an extension of both Wolves and Man United’s unbeaten start to the season.
