In a result that few could have predicted, Manchester City suffered their first loss at home this season. Wolverhampton Wanderers, who have gotten off to a slow start this season, defeated the current league champions 2-0 in front of a gobsmacked crowd at their Etihad.

In what has become a typical display of dominance, the home side got off to a dominant start, controlling a majority of the ball possession and taking a number of threatening shots. While the match was goalless at half time, Man City clearly looked the more likely of the two to open the scoring.

Itá for this reason that the subsequent events were so shocking. In the 80th minute, Wolves striker Jimenez surged forward with the ball in what was a quick counter-attack. The Mexican national then laid off the ball to Adama Traore, who found the back of the net to hand Wolves a late lead.

To rub salt in Man City’s wounds, Wolves grabbed a second at the death of the match, as the Jimenez and Traore partnership struck gold yet again. This time, Jimenez played a through ball to Traore who fired it into the bottom right-hand corner.
