Wolves Make $46 Million Splash for Porto’s Fabio Silva

Wolverhampton Wanderers made a record transfer over the weekend, signing young Portuguese phenom Fabio Silva from FC Porto for a club-record $46 million fee.

Silva, who turned 18 over the summer, is considered a prodigious talent who has the potential to be one of the top players in the world if he fulfills his potential.

The young forward, who spent time in both Porto and Benfica’s youth academies, made his debut for the Dragons last season, appearing in 12 Liga NOS and 3 Europa League matches. While he notched only one goal in limited playing time, he made it clear why he is considered to be a rising star.

Silva turned heads at the UEFA Youth League competition in fall 2018, leaping onto the world scene after scoring 5 goals and recording 4 assists in only 9 games against Europe’s best youth talent.

The Portugal native joins a roster and a club which is chock-full of his compatriots, as Wolves currently have a Portuguese head coach in Nuno Espirito Santo and 9 other Portuguese players on their roster.

It remains to be seen how much impact Silva will have for Wolves this season, but he’ll have plenty of time to shine over the length of his five-year contract.
