The Winnipeg Jets announced on Tuesday that their forward Cole Perfetti agreed to a new two-year deal with the franchise.
Perfetti was a hold out for the first five days of the Jets’ training camp before the deal was agreed upon. He will receive $3 million in base salary for the upcoming season and $3.5 million for 2025-26.
The Jets and Perfetti have been negotiating a new deal since July but were reportedly far apart in proposed terms until recently. Another issue was that the Jets preferred a bridge-type of deal, while Perfetti wanted a long-term commitment.
“I get to play hockey again, so that’s the biggest thing. I just get to be at the rink. It was definitely a learning process, and (I’ll) just say (I’m) glad it’s over with,” Perfetti told reporters on Tuesday.
He also added that he enjoys being part of the organization and that “it would have been great” if he signed a longer deal. However, the Jets never made such an offer to him during the negotiation process.
Perfetti is coming off a season in which he played a career-high 71 games and had a career-high 19 goals and 38 points. Since making his NHL debut in 2021-22, the Whitby, Canada native has 29 goals and 46 assists for a total of 75 points.
