The Chicago White Sox have reached a new low after falling 2-0 to the New York Mets on Sunday. It was the 107th loss for the White Sox in 2024 and marked a new record for the franchise.

The previous worst season in White Sox history was in 1970 when they finished 56-106.

The White Sox also set some other unwanted marks, including the first 0-10 stretch at home, and things could possibly become a lot worse for them moving forward. They are facing a tough stretch of road games and could easily rack up more losses before the season ends.

Chicago is currently on pace to finish the campaign with a 36-126 record, which would also set a new record for most losses in modern baseball. This distinction now belongs to the 1965 New York Mets, which had a 40-120-1 record. The good news is that they won’t set an overall record, which belongs to the Cleveland Spiders, who had 136 losses in 1899.

“There’s no sense in harping over the record right now,” interim manager Grady Sizemore said prior to the Mets game. “We’re trying to just improve on every day and get better as each series goes on. My message has been the same since I got here. It’s not about the record. It’s not about wins. It’s just about competing and playing together as a team.”
