Chicago White Sox improved to 18-12 record with 4-0 win over Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night, but that wasn’t the story of the game. Instead, the White Sox’ right-hander Lucas Giolito got all the headlines with the first no-hitter of the 2020 MLB season.

Giolito blazed through Pirates’ batters, allowing no hits in nine innings and being in full control at the mound. He also finished the night with 13 strikeouts, which tied his single-game career-high, while allowing just one baserunner in the fourth inning.

Despite being on the cusp of his first no-hitter in the majors, Giolito said that he didn’t feel the pressure entering the ninth inning and was just focused on bringing the game to an end.

“It felt normal, going out in the ninth inning; it didn’t feel too much different,” he told reporters. “It felt like, ‘It’s time to close out a ballgame.’ And luckily, we were able to do it.”

Lucas Giolito’s no-hitter on Tuesday was 19th in White Sox history and first since 2012 when Philip Humber had a perfect game against Seattle Mariners.

Giolito has been great for Chicago in 2020, compiling 3-2 record in seven games with 3.09 ERA and 58 strikeouts.
