Washington Football Team All-Pro guard Brandon Scherff is dealing with an MCL sprain and will be sidelined for several weeks, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Reportedly, the team is hoping Scherff won’t miss more than two weeks due to injury.
Scherff was injured in Washington’s 34-30 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. The 29-year-old guard went down in the second quarter and didn’t return to the game after.
According to Schefter, Scherff isn’t the only player Washington lost during their clash with the Falcons. Veteran tight end Logan Thomas suffered a hamstring injury early in the first quarter and is now considered week-to-week.
Scherff has been one of the most consistent performers for Washington in recent years, having earned four Pro Bowl nods in the last five years. In his absence, the team is expected to turn to veteran Wes Schweitzer, who primarily plays the left guard position.
Thomas is also an important player for the team, making 12 catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns in the first three weeks of the 2021 NFL season. The offseason acquisition Ricky Seals-Jones should get a chance to start if Thomas can’t play in Week 5, while 2021’s fourth-round selection John Bates is also expected to receive an opportunity.
Washington is currently second in the NFC East with a 2-2 record. They will face the New Orleans Saints next weekend.
