The Golden State Warriors are close to moving another one of their recent high draft picks. And curiously, they would want to get a high draft pick in the 2023 NBA Draft in exchange.

According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, the Warriors are exploring the possibility of moving up in this year’s draft, and they would be willing to trade young forward Jonathan Kuminga to do so. Kuminga was the franchise’s seventh overall pick in the 2021 draft.

Back in February, Golden State traded away James Wiseman, their second overall selection in the 2020 draft. Prior to this, Wiseman and Kuminga were seen as future franchise cornerstones after the current core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green retires.

Kuminga averaged 9.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.9 points during the 2022-23 regular season despite playing under 21 minutes per game. However, he had a cameo showing during the playoffs, playing a total of 61 minutes across two series.

It is unclear how far the Warriors can move up the 2023 NBA Draft with a package centered on Jonathan Kuminga and their own No. 19 pick. However, it is believed that a number of teams with high selections could be interested in trades. This includes the Portland Trail Blazers, who own the third overall pick, and Detroit Pistons at No. 5.
